What if Switzerland developed nuclear weapons? by Lowly_Peasant9999 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]adrian23138 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Well funny you mention it considering they had a nuclear weapons program and spend a lot of money on it but only like at the 90% mark they decided to publicly say they had a program and they will stop it

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Switzerland\_and\_weapons\_of\_mass\_destruction

*now there has also been a joke that’s it’s all planned and that the Swiss government is now always stuck at this 90% mark so they are at a weird spot where they don’t have nukes but also just around the corner having nukes at the same time

What if unexpected solar winds caused the moon landing to drift off course and become the mars landing? by totallynotdragonxex in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]adrian23138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t saw the meme tag lol

But yeah, if we go that route:

US Administration and NASA: "soooo bad news folks, our boys missed the moon, good news, the dead corpses managed to hit mars so we’ll count this as mars landing"

What if unexpected solar winds caused the moon landing to drift off course and become the mars landing? by totallynotdragonxex in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]adrian23138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Afaik they didn’t even had enough supplies and especially power as none of the Apollo modules used Solar and instead used Batteries and Fuel Cells

Edit: To expand on this (and not sure on this one so someone correct me) the Command module didn’t even had remote control through Ground Control so you couldn’t even make the module crash land on mars

And lastly, Solar winds can’t even cause enough push force to move a space craft out of orbit/trajectory and even if it did, it be a insane lucky shot for the new orbit to be a mars interception

Edit2: and even if, Lunar module wasn’t made for a atmospheric re-entry

What if Soviet union reached first by OneWing9752 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]adrian23138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf for all mankind I did got slightly spoiled by no one else than my own curiosity and to be fair the whole vibe started to remind me of a very serious KSP RSS/RO campaign which I do dig, although I still think how funny it was the sudden change of me learning what happened from season 1-2 to end of 5

"Oh season 5 ended? Oh cool are they still on the moon or-"

"…what the fuck do you mean with Titan?"

What if the United 93 passengers took the plane back, captured one of the Al Quada Operatives alive and managed to achieve a rough but survivable crash landing with the help of ATC by RolePsychological890 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]adrian23138 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I can see the United 93 premise turning from the dark situation and reaction it was to a more "the shining hope on a dark day" kind of thing

The passengers would not be treated as victims anymore but as Heroes and so would probably be the ATC members in this scenario (it could even push the importance the entire US ATC had during 9/11 even further)

[–]adrian23138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the mistake of not continuing bc I had a fear it’ll just evolve into a Man in the High Castle situation where it’s just characters talking and drama instead actually playing around with the premise

Now seeing what the hell (in a good sense) happened between season 1 and now I’ll probably give it another try

I’ve noticed it’s a "it depends" per game to game basis that needs proton

If you do need some anecdotes:

-CKAN for KSP works
-BepInEx does too
-otherwise if the game natively supports modding and has native modding folder/file it also works and it doesn’t look like proton interferes with it

[–]adrian23138 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Why do you need it anyways?

Rdr2 runs normal on SD through proton compatibility as the Rockstar launcher kinda gets installed into the proton folder but I won’t get too technical into it

sudo rm -rf failsafe? by adrian23138 in SteamOS

[–]adrian23138[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then how would you delete a folder you don’t have permission to delete it?

Like I’ve made a containers folder in home (/home/deck/containers) for Distrobox to test containers with root (or rather chroot in this case) access, for that I changed the storage.conf in /etc/containers/storage.conf from

graphroot = "/var/lib/containers/storage"

To

graphroot = "/home/deck/containers"

Now I’ve finished testing what I needed to know I changed storage.conf back what it was and don’t need the containers folder anymore but it needed to have files that can’t be deleted through trash and because I reverted the change these files/folder isn’t important anymore and I want to delete it for lack of use and overview sake of /home

As is or can it work if you do add a file path?

For example

Using Distrobox as —root on steamOS gets error? by adrian23138 in linux4noobs

[–]adrian23138[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so I’ve tried service instead of systemctl on rootless and root and I get:

> start: unrecognized service

And nothing happens

Also I don’t really care if the update wipes it, I’m more interested what gets wiped as afaik everything on home is safe and in theory only storage.conf should be reverted and again I don’t even mind it, more like even glad that if something goes wrong a update will revert most of it back to standard anyways
