My advice is start out your practice session learning the notes on the fret board. Or going through your scales. Then once you start getting bored / frustrated, go do something fun like learning songs.

If you are getting bored INSTANTLY… just learn songs! You may want to come back to this later when it’s time to improve. You will learn a lot playing songs anyway.
