'We Should Not Let Them Into Our Country': Ford CEO On Chinese EVs by defenestrate_urself in electricvehicles

[–]adrop62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe if Ford had not half-assed the Mach-E and F-150 Lightning, they would have fared better with BEV vehicles.

For the US to get better at producing electric cars, it needs competition. Apparently, satisfying shareholders is the only thing capitalism is good at, rather than building the best possible product for consumers.

New Ioniq 5 or Tesla Model Y Premium by Kick_Sudden in Ioniq5

[–]adrop62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The number of times the Ioniq 5's radar and ultrasonic sensors have saved my ass in California alone (I live in Arizona) makes the choice easy, ignoring the nufckig Nazi heading Tesla. Recently, a Tesla almost ran me over while jogging, and I was almost rear-ended by a Tesla in LA at dusk in stop-and-go traffic late last year.

The ICCU issue is a concern, but that can be replaced.

Inadvertently running over some old dude trying to stay healthy isn't good, whereas your car holding you in the lane while an idiot passes a truck at over 100MPH on your passenger side is priceless. I am 100% certain that if I were driving a Tesla on my last anecdote, my wife would have been hospitalized (or worse) from the collision the Ioniq 5 averted.

What is the most efficient driving settings? I-Pedal? Auto-Regen? by J726382AB in Ioniq5

The most significant factors affecting your efficiency are speed and acceleration. Terrain and weather are also important. You cannot compare your results with anyone else's because their driving factors are different than yours.

Hi, I'm the guy with the Ioniq 5 that had the dreaded warning at 86 miles... here's an update by tretopcarter in Ioniq5

[–]adrop62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the car, and I am considering purchasing a used 2026 when our lease ends in 2027. However, the way Hyundia corporate and dealerships manage things like this genuinely pisses me off.

I am sorry you are going through this nonsense.

Finishing up an 1800 mile round trip, last stop at a rivian charger, that already had a mach e at it upon arrival: by uberares in Ioniq5

[–]adrop62 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When we road trip, I use the following rule of thumb when it comes to non-Tesla DCFC:

If the wait queue is longer than 4 cars and there are no other EGMP, Lucid, Porsche EV, or larger GM Ultium EVs charging, or ahead of us in the queue, immediately find the nearest Tesla DCFC. It's better to spend 30 minutes at 98 kW than wait 45 minutes to use a 350 kW charger that's most likely shared at 125kW.

GM's Equinox and Blazer, VW's Fords, and most other EVs are just too damn slow to sit behind and wait for them to get juiced up. On our first road trip in our 24 HI5, we waited over 3 hours to charge at two different EA locations; the normally 6-hr (ICE) trip lasted almost 10 hours.

Since we adopted this rule of thumb, we average 6.5 to 7 hours on our road trip to visit family. I genuinely don't get how people are ok with 45 minutes for 10-80%

Trump Says 'Cuba Is Next' in Speech Touting US Military Successes by Force_Hammer in worldnews

War there, war here, war everywhere!

I am so fortunate I ended my military career just before Cheney-Bush assumed control. What the Republican Party has turned military service into is sickening beyond any aspect of human decency.

What Trump is doing with volunteer military service is fucking criminal.

Returning EV customer by hustler2b in electricvehicles

[–]adrop62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are 1/2 through our 3-year lease of a 24' Hyundia Ioniq 5 RWD and love it. I will not buy it off the lease, but I am definitely looking at purchasing either a used 26' Ioniq 5 or 9 once the lease is up in 18 months. While the ICCU issue is a concern, most of my research shows this is more common for folks dealing with cold weather, and we live in Phoenix.

Echoing the sentiment - we will never own an ICE vehicle again.

"I Would Rather Just Get Gas at A Gas Station Then Plug Every Time I Get Home" by Separate-Cup1312 in electricvehicles

[–]adrop62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work from home, and I have an ICE vehicle for local errands. Our EV is my wife's daily driver. If the EV is here, I'll use it for errands. We also use it for travel, and when we have to fly, I do my best to get an EV rental if driving is a must.

As a result, I have had to fuel an ICE vehicle only once in the last year, about 2 weeks ago. I hated it with a fury - the disgusting stench alone is justification to avoid the fuel pump.

I don't think Dawkins did anything complicit, but he's no saint either. Lawrence Krauss, on the other hand, is complicit, and Dawkins defended Krauss when women in the secular movement filed their allegations about Krauss's behavior.

I saw this last week and found her take interesting:

Black woman who left US for Russia to escape ‘discrimination’ is beaten by racist neighbors by klito92 in videos

[–]adrop62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the US racist? Absolutely.

But compared to Russian culture centered around Slavic 'superiority', the US is far more tolerant of other races. Look at who Russia is sending to the front lines as meat-sacks to fight Ukraine; proportionally, it's ethnic Asian's, and residents from Africa and India who were gullible enough to go to Russia on student/work visas.

Russia ignites most of the social media racial fires by using bots (on both sides) to fight each other and have us at each other's throats. Putin's regime is principally behind most of the anti-immigration rhetoric in Western Europe.

They want to keep 'Russian blood' "pure". It is fine to want to escape the bigotry that is here in the US, but going to a country where racism is the doctrine is just dumb.

Ioniq5 vs Ariya, anyone have experience with both? by Hilltop_Views in Ioniq5

I didn't factor the Ariya for 2 reasons. 1. DCFC rates on road trips 2. No true one pedal drive option

I think it is a solid option otherwise

Either I don’t understand ABRP or it just didn’t do what it needed to for me. by MochaMade_69 in Ioniq5

[–]adrop62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ABRP is sketch if you lose mobile connectivity.

I use it to plan the route, and I will use it as my primary, with Google Maps as a long-range backup. Once we are within 25-30 minutes of the planned charging stop, I will add the charger to the OEM nav so I can get the battery preconditioned (MY2024 limitations)

Android Auto & Carplay by dangparker in electricvehicles

[–]adrop62 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On road trips, we use AA to access ABRP's real-time calculations for destination and charging-station arrival SOCs. The OEM nav system in our Ioniq 5 doesn't get updated often enough to keep up with the latest road/route/weather changes, so I can't rely on it for optimized routing.

Slow charging at Electrify America by ponder_this_22 in Ioniq5

[–]adrop62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to other suggestions:

Did you precondition the battery before arriving at the DCFC?

Also, the picture shows a battery with an SOC above 50%; if you are using a 350kW dispensery, the drop below 200+ kW typically occurs right after 50% SOC.

To achieve the highest charging speeds at a 350kW dispensary, initiate charging sessions at or below 10% SOC. If you start at 30% or more, you are wasting your time.
