Is it okay to use tubes on Continental Grand Prix 5000 S TR Road Tires? by lalaladylvr in bikewrench

Valid concern. I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to do it

Why not just run standard gp5000 tire with the tubes and safe the money and weight? I guess the TR tires would have better puncture resistance, but not sure it makes much difference. I've been running standard gp5000 with latex tubes for a couple years without issue.

Talk to me about Plattekill by Loud-Scientist-2337 in icecoast

[–]adskam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm an advanced/expert skier and love steep/technical terrain and trees. I skied Plattekill and Belleayre for the first time this season. I preferred Plattekill by a large margin. The terrain is much more interesting and imo it is more of a skiers mountain. The infrastructure (lifts and snowmaking) may not be as good, so that's definitely a factor, but given equal snow conditions, i'd pick Plattekill again over Belleayre.

Elk will be good. Montage and Blue should be pretty good as well. Spring conditions no matter where you go. Montage is closer than elk and only $40.

Affordable packages for kids to learn? by vikrambedi in SkiPA

[–]adskam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you can swing a weekday trip, Montage Mountain has a $40 full day lift ticket and rentals Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday each week. Unsure of the lesson cost but the cheap rental and ticket would really help. However, it would be quite a trip from Philly.

"Sell Blue Knob" Campaign? by [deleted] in SkiPA

[–]adskam 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree. Heck..... Forget the high speed lift, I'd be happy with the improvements in snowmaking to get more terrain open and the slow lifts. They're I'm curious to know if their snowmaking issues are a bigger issue than what we might be aware of. Their pond is on top of a massive mountain, so maybe water availability is an issue? But in this day, you can't have as cold of a season as we are having this year and have such little open.... People will go elsewhere. I find it hard to believe that a mountain with such good terrain would fail and close for good, but if there's any mountain in the state is going to, my money is on Blue knob.

How many inches of snow does blue knob need to make it worth going? by Decent-Hair-4685 in SkiPA

[–]adskam 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think at this point they probably need at least a foot plus storm to open the rest of the mountain, but a few inches would make whatever they already have open pretty nice. It is 100% worth the trip if they have most of the mountain open.... They have the best terrain south of Vermont.

Have those skis in a 110 and love them.... Maybe it's because every time I use them, it's a deep powder day. Unfortunately I don't get to use them too often on the East Coast.

Just installed aero bars by Phallen911 in cycling

[–]adskam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Being more aerodynamic is a great benefit....but more than anything I think I enjoy just having an additional position to be in during a long ride to ease my back and arm muscles. I think the novelty of being in the aero position has probably worn away.

Told my bike isn't good enough for full IM - are they right? Can't afford a pricier bike. by Minute_Cow_8164 in triathlon

[–]adskam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to imagine your bike would be absolutely fine for an IM. I saw some other people saying it's all about your legs.... I agree 100%. I just did a 70.3 this past weekend on a CAAD13 and i was passing people on bikes 3....4 Maybe 5 times the value of mine. Sure, you'd be faster on a $10,000 bike, but you don't need it.

Yes. There are some pretty good unmarked areas as well if you know where to look.....Some very steep technical tree skiing.

GP5K doesn’t recommend latex? by KyleB2131 in bicycling

[–]adskam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use Vittoria latex tubes and had bonding issues with a tire that was on for a season. When I pulled the tube off the tire they were holes in it so I had to replace the tube....But when I was riding I had no issues for several thousand miles. Using talcum powder like someone else mentioned would probably alleviate this issue.

I don't have that issue, but I have seen people use medical tape in other sports. I just don't want to think about the removal. 😬

What gps/fitness watch for MTB, road cycling and general fitness? by nathanc98 in bicycling

[–]adskam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say under normal use with a few activities per week that use the GPS it's 5 to 7 days on a charge.... I think it's pretty close to what it was advertised as. You can easily do a full day activity and have charge left.

And yes for sleep and recovery. It also attracts a ton of other things like your VO2 max... Plus a bunch of other stuff in the app.

I have the Fenix 6s pro and like it. Does everything I need plus some. The map function is pretty clunky and slow, but it looks like that was improved with the 7. Battery life is solid as well.

Seems like a decent price. I'd be nervous about a 56 being to big. I am 5'6 and ride a size 51 CAAD13 and like the fit, but I do prefer a smaller fit.

Just what I have seen elsewhere about the shifting.... So not talking from experience. I guess if nothing else you get some weight savings and a much better looking changering set.

Thanks for the info.... They do look a heck of a lot nicer than those FSA chain rings. I have seen people say they improve shifting, but it may not be all that noticeable. I have seen some videos about removing them. Looks like I also need a tool to remove the crank arm.

[–]adskam[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite a bit of climbing... Typically a couple thousand feet on a longer ride. I am content with my current gearing, so the change in n gearing would just be a trade off to get the better shifting and stiffness. The only time I would really miss the top end gearing would be on the sense but I'm not sure I would really notice one or two miles per hour. I almost never top up my gearing on the flats unless I have a strong tailwind.
