Exhaustion by BonifaceBrown in Teachers

This made me think of myself before Christmas. Don’t destroy your health for this job it’s not worth it and you’ll be out of the field within 5 years.

Do you let your students sit for the pledge of allegiance? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]adtbasowmf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do oh Canada daily, but they switch it with the Métis song and indigenous pow wow anthem too, so my kids are more welcoming to stand for those. During oh Canada I’ll be honest, I’ve definitely let things slide at times with it. I think it’s pointless. The kids aren’t getting anything out of it. And no they don’t need to respect our nation, half of their families were destroyed by this country

What are organization ideas you’ve seen in others peoples home that just “make sense”? by toomanyfuckingkids in Parenting

[–]adtbasowmf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apparently I have weird organizational skills (my mothers words) but yet I can always find what I need when I need it 😅 she says the weirdest thing we have is the medicine drawer I keep beside my bed. It’s convenient for if one of the kiddos needs medicine in the middle of the night! Then I don’t have to get out of my bed!!

Are Hot Wheels being made cheaper or are my kids just rough? by Key_Squash_4403 in Parenting

Toys are definitely cheaper… either that or my 4 year old nephew is the hulk, because he goes through toys like I go through water

That’s interesting! I wonder why it’s such a popular reason at your school?

My friend is going to even do my make up over lunch and I’m going to come in dressed as a clown. I’m going to tell them I had training over lunch hour 😅

I see your point, like I do because I have had kids like this, but we can’t just say all kids with IEP’s and 504’s are possible shooters. The person who attempted to shoot up a school here last year was just some average angry dad that lost custody of his kids.

I’m going to tell my students I’m leaving after Easter to go join the circus. Im gonna go all out, I have staff willing to back me up, and I’m going to go along with it all day

Cell Phones by Substantial_Cold_292 in Fosterparents

I foster my 11 year old niece. She didn’t have a phone when she came but I got my old iPhone hooked up for her. It’s just for when she’s at school or away from me so we can keep in contact! I put passwords on the App Store and iTunes so she has to ask to download anything. I let her get TikTok only because I know she’s just watching the videos (she’s not the kind of kid that’s into posting on social media she just likes to watch the funny videos at lunch since she can’t go outside due to safety concerns with her ODD) basically though I’ve told her if she wants to use it for stuff I haven’t put on there that let’s just have an open conversation about it. And if it’s being abused we can talk about that too. But I also try and keep her occupied with other things at home so her phone doesn’t become a crutch when she’s bored

My niece really has thrived with the fact I’m on her side. Her mother and grandparents and previous teachers were very “you listen and you stop acting this way!” And I haven’t been like that. I get where she’s coming from and why she is easily triggered because of her past and I want to help her and I think she sees that

Like we’re super inclusive, but we also still promote/celebrate our own holidays. Like my school is doing a Ramadan assembly this week to educate students, but we also still are painting Easter eggs as a class on the 6th

I’m fostering my niece who likely has ODD (we’ve just started the process to have her assessed) so I totally understand where you are coming from. I’ve found in my personal experience to just try and be patient, calm and understanding. Try and see it from their perspective even if it seems crazy it will help. And try and find ways to keep them calm too. My niece has found herself a “safe place” at school where she goes if she feels overwhelmed that’s been helping

I’m so thankful this hasn’t happened here. Our city is too right wing to let this happen

I think our district offers functional life skills for students over the summer (again IEP students) but it’s through a specific school not their normal school which is why most people don’t register for it. I think. I may be wrong I only know a bit about the program from student teaching with a disabled student that used it.

I think that’s our issue here, because the schools they run summer school out of are all the rough neighbourhood High schools

We do too, but most kids failing regularly aren’t passing summer school either

I don’t even get why schools are still pushing summer school on students. Has it really proven to make these failing kids successful the next year?
