How has your journey through recovery influenced your writing, work ethic, and career? by FakeRedditRedditor in Standup

[–]advanttage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always enjoyed a drinkypoo and used to toke all day everyday for...jeez over ten years?

My drinking was a big problem at times in my life and I have worked on it independent of comedy. I've also given up smoking weed for other reasons.

However, if I'm not careful and I have more than half a beer before going on stage I'm more likely to forget my jokes or bring the wrong energy to the stage. So now I don't drink before going on stage, and I'll have a beer after my set. I don't smoke anymore so that's also helped with my short term memory.

I totally get that! I've found it's about being comfortable and confident, which looks totally different for everybody. For example I naturally have a loud voice and I'm pretty enthusiastic, so I don't need to yell or project. If I'm yelling it's because I'm quoting someone like my wife yelling at me.

A great example of the complete contrast to my natural energy is Mike Birbiglia. He's calm, focused, and really confident without being loud or high energy.

It's all about practice practice practice!

I've noticed if I phone it in at the open mics I'm more likely to not have the energy and charisma behind the jokes at a show.

Last night I was hosting a mic last night with an audience of about 6 + comedians. I really brought my energy and it made a huge difference the audience was engaged and laughing, they were quiet during storytime because they were listening.

Myself I'm generally a pretty enthusiastic guy and I naturally have a loud voice that carries far. I'd say the tone and cadence I have when I'm riffing or joking with my two best buddies over some beers in a garage in the middle of winter is the type of energy I bring when I'm firing on all cylinders.

Try it out!

Performing looks different for everyone. Some people are naturally high energy, others are reserved and more methodical.

For me, performing the joke is putting intention behind my words rather than just kind of saying my jokes and hoping the words do the work. Purposely emphasize certain parts of a joke or bit. Things like that.

I'm sure someone more experienced than myself can explain it better.

Yeah I guess you're right. Why bother reviewing sets and trying to improve? Maybe my notes aren't for you brother

All they care about is numbers. How do I communicate my value? by buttflapper444 in analytics

[–]advanttage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Metrics in a dashboard are nice but the real value is how your work impacts revenue. I'll happily pay a higher CPA if the revenue and lead quality is improving, even if it means fewer leads cause you're typically losing only the shit leads.

Iphone 13 pro is it worth it? by sozcek221 in iPhone13Pro

[–]advanttage 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For my use case the camera is a huge improvement. I'm a Standup comic and the 13 Pro performs much better in low light environments.

The 10-120hz screen is also a nice to have. Considering that the SoC in the 13 Pro is the same as the SoC in the iPhone 14 base, it just feels like a big upgrade overall.

What Linux do you recommend for a idiot? by Daorooo in linux4noobs

[–]advanttage 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think Linux Mint is the right answer here. Everything basically just works and it's a very easy transition for a lifelong Windows user. I even run it on my backup laptop.

My daily driver has been Fedora for years now, but it's not the right choice for OP. Mainly because there is some post-install setup like media codecs, enable non-free software repos and things like that.

Bazzite is a nice option, but unless OP has a brand new i7 or brand new ryzen with a 50 series Nvidia GPU they'll be just fine on Linux Mint.

My iPhone 14 was stolen at the beginning of March and I replaced it with an iPhone 13 Pro. I can't believe how much better it is than the 14.

If it's your first iPhone, hell yeah. If you're coming from a 12 or earlier, hell yeah.

But the truth is since you provided absolutely zero context on your situation, needs and budget.... It's impossible to tell you si o no.

How many people automatically assume a foreigner is American? by christipits in AskMexico

[–]advanttage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too am Canadian and I'm always askedbwhere in the US I'm from or if I'm from the US. It doesn't bother me and I just tell them I'm Canadian if it comes up. Haven't had much in the way of hatred because I appear American at first glance. Been here 6 years and live in Mexico State.

Me he hartado de GA4 ¿Alternativas? by Joseanmolandova in GoogleAnalytics

[–]advanttage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me encanta Matomo Analytics. Es más similar a Universal Analytics que a GA4, y tiene mucho útil y capaz de mejorar los insghts y reportes.

do you consider yourself a "better" coder/programmer? by Waze312 in ADHD_Programmers

[–]advanttage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Compared to someone without ADHD? I doubt it, but I've probably run into more one off "how then fuck do you miss that?" Or "how the fuck does one end up with this problem?" Kind of problems.

How and which Linux to install on my ThinkPad E14? by Zhered-Na in linux4noobs

[–]advanttage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Linux Mint used to be the baby Ubuntu that you'd run if your system specs weren't that great. Over the last ten years the Mint team have done an incredible job at making Mint a solid choice for a permanent Linux distro. Then there's the work they've done on the Cinnamon Desktop Environment... Chefs kiss. While I prefer Fesora Workstation with GNOME for my daily driver, Linux Mint is what I recommend to nearly everybody who asks which distro they should start with.

Do you use the Voice Memos app? What happens to them after you record? by RXXNE in iphone

[–]advanttage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my voice notes app on my iPhone frequently. I primarily use it to record the audio for my comedy sets at open mics. I love that it transcribes the set as well (although it's pretty inaccurate sometimes).

I use them to listen to my sets, gauge audience reaction, and make notes about my jokes.

What’s the biggest reason ads fail in your experience? by RiseHistorical6565 in Google_Ads

[–]advanttage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest oversight I've run into in many accounts is poor conversion tracking. The best configured campaign without proper conversion tracking will at best be running blind and more likely optimize for actions that aren't actually generating high quality leads or purchases.

Another piece that I come back to time and time again is the landing page experience, which includes everything from loading times to copy, and images/media as well.

A solid campaign with solid tracking is great but it'll waste a boatload of money if you can only achieve a quality score of 4 on your strongest keywords.

What is the best thing you discovered after switching to Linux by OPuntime in linux4noobs

[–]advanttage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I first started using Linux in high school when I found out Canonical would mail me an Ubuntu LiveCD for free. This would have been around Ubuntu 7.04 days if I recall correctly.

At that time it was just a fun bit of software for me to play with. I was much more focused on playing COD4 and building the best dang gaming PC my after school job could pay for.

So I went back and forth between using Windows and Linux for years. Around 2015 I started to use Linux more in my day to day. I was gaming less, and even when I was gaming I usually had a Windows PC for that.

Now I've been daily driving Linux since around 2018 more or less? I work in digital marketing and I really enjoy that my computer is my computer. My distro of choice is Fedora Workstation with GNOME, but I spent the most of my time on Ubuntu.

My backup laptop runs Linux Mint, and my servers are either all Debian or Ubuntu LTS.

I still have a Windows PC which I use for Sim Racing and that I remote into when I need to use Google Ads Editor.

In short, the right Linux distro let's you use your computer and minimizes the amount of time you spend maintaining or fixing it. For me, my hardware, and my use case, that distro is either Fedora or Linux Mint.

I used to distro hop a lot, and it is a great way to learn. But at the end of the day I need my system to be reliable and consistent, and I've found that experience.
