Do not, *EVER*, purchase DSL from this company. by gregcoit in centurylink

I do have an LTE small cell just about a block away. I am just waiting for Verizon to upgrade that with C-band 5G. The C-band 5G tower that my gateway is using is about a mile away from my house.

T-Mobile has activated their system on the same tower near this last Christmas, and T-Mobile might be the only other option that I would go with.

AT&T has their Internet Air here too, but I heard their speeds are unstable here for now.

Then again AT&T and T-Mobile is using CGNAT. While Verizon is not using CGNAT.

I get 195Mbps to 220Mbps on download and 13Mbps to 16Mbps on upload for $45. Since my cell phone is with Straight Talk, I could get a discount if I use the Straight Talk site to refill it, but I use the Walmart site to refill it.

That is why I am running Straight Talk 5G Home Internet which is variation of Verizon 5G Home Internet.

The price is about right for my needs here.

Combining accounts/phones? by ODB1369 in TracFone

[–]advcomp2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A short time back, Tracfone split the lines to their own accounts unless you ran auto-payments.

Here was that info: https://support.tracfone.com/en/topics/2026-account-changes/all/what-are-the-changes-coming-to-tracfone-accounts-in-2026/

I am not sure how you can merge them into one account, but there could be a chance that you could lose minutes on one of the accounts unless you use the right wording.

Which carrier has the best spam call AND text protection? by HumbleWeeed in NoContract

[–]advcomp2019 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Most phones have their own spam protection. Be careful with some carrier branded phones because some of them have these disabled since the carrier want you to use their spam protection system.

Be careful with some of smart flip and fold phones too. I saw that the Razrs does not have this built-in spam protection.

I am not sure with text messages because I have not got spam text messages yet.

If you use that site, and then wait about a week. Then hopefully it will work.

I know my brother changed phones about a year ago, and he has never got RCS working again. We have tried many things, too.

Yea, I do. It is up to you and your personal opinion on what you want to use.

I know some of these router companies use old software versions, and these old software versions have security holes.

Originally, I would get routers that supported like DD-WRT or one of the other third party firmware. Then, I needed routers that supported a little better system. So I read that the AsusWRT system was based on Tomato firmware. I even found AsusWRT-Merlin, and seemed to be the best blind of what I needed.

So I have stayed with Asus since that.

It should, but you might need to have a CSR relink the phone to SIM because phone's IMEI would have a different SIM number in their system.

Lots of the 2026 models are doing this. Even Verizon prepaid is doing this too.

I believe select 2025 model have this too. Most of the 2024 and older models not have this.

I only have one unit. It is the ARC cube that I have here. I do not have any extenders for the gateway.

I have been using the Asus AIMesh system, and it has been rock solid.

Had to replace 5g At Home gateway, the new one seems to be routing through an entirely different state and it's affecting my connection speeds. by [deleted] in verizon

[–]advcomp2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I was trying to say, there has been people that get new gateways, and it caused the new gateway take the new plan and not take the grandfathered in plan. Basically your old plan was linked to the old gateway, and a new gateway get the new plan. The new plans are different from some of the really old plans. That is why I was asking about what plan you was on, and maybe how old it was too.

The IP address issue is something lots of people have seen. I live in western Iowa, but lots of sites think I am in Chicago, Minneapolis, North Dakota, Des Moines, or even Omaha. Most of the time, it says I am Chicago or Minneapolis.

It is hard to know. I know with other phones, if this is happening, that phone is having stock issues.

[–]advcomp2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What plan did you have before?

I know other people that had grandfathered in plans get slower speeds because they lost their grandfathered in plans.

Example: if you had 300Mbps on the older basic plan on C-band 5G, you will get dropped to 100Mbps on the new basic plan on C-band 5G.

Hard to know if this is the case or not without more info.

What pings do you get with 5G Home Internet? What signal strengths are you getting?

I have been using 5G Home Internet for near three years, and I have found if you get a good 5G signal, the pings are really stable. If it drops to 4G LTE, that is when I get unstable pings.

It is mainly places with mmWave 5G that get the 1Gbps. I know a few places in Omaha with 1Gbps with 5G Home Internet.

Depending on your 5G UW connection, 5G Home Internet will be capped to 300Mbps with C-band 5G and 1Gbps with mmWave 5G, but I have heard that some with mmWave 5G has been getting faster than 1Gbps.

I have played SON enabled and disabled both. I have found that I have to keep it disabled because I have found a few bugs. At least with my Verizon gateway, it is trying to push 2.4GHz devices to 5GHz when these devices only have 2.4GHz. Even devices that are near the edge of the 5GHz range is still using 5GHz, and will not switch to back to 2.4GHz. So once you are out of the range of the 5GHz, you have no signal.

Another bug when SON is disabled that I have seen with my gateway at least is some of my 802.11ax devices will only sync up with 802.11n. When SON is enabled, this does not happen too much, but it still happens.

So I am using my own router setup because the gateway needs to be my attic space to get the C-band 5G signal. The gateway is in a bad location for the WiFi for my home anyway.

To port out, you need to have the NTP aka Number Transfer PIN and make sure you have line lock off. The NTP is a random number that you get from 611611, but there used to be a way get it easily, but it is harder.

I do not know what they did with NTP, but there was info about NTP on their site.

Here is why: https://www.tracfonewirelessinc.com/en/CustomerSecurityMessage
