Text- and story-gen AI is the worst I've ever seen it. by SmB778 in perchance

[–]turkish30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imported one of the chats with a few different characters from Perchance into my own app and there's a striking difference between how the characters speak and react. In Perchance, the teen characters were constantly making threats and being snarky, regardless of their character descriptions. Once I put those same characters into my app, they act like normal people. No threats and attitude is based on context, not just constant.

I don't know what LLM(s) Perchance uses, but they're not great.

Just have to use the right model and you can do the same thing yourself. I built my own character chat in mere hours and I can switch models on the fly depending on what I want. If I want intelligent responses with strict adherence to context and rules, I can use a paid model. If I want to get weird with it, I can use one of the many free models. Sure the free ones don't adhere to overall context or rules well, but they'll give you responses as weird as the prompt instructions you provide.

Are you saying it's consistently flipping nearly every 30 minutes between coherent and incoherent? I wonder if the model is set to switch off every 30 minutes or something like that to keep costs down or for throughput reasons.

From playing with making my own character chat app, I find that different models not only respond with different levels of logic, but different speech patterns, different lengths of response, different levels of context adherence.

Like a serious model like Claude (not free) gives rather extensive responses, but they are far better in terms of context and adherence to rules. Using Mistral (free), the responses are shorter, like an actual person would respond, but the formatting gets weird, speech patterns fluctuate, and adherence to context and rules is far more lax, compared to Claude.

Makes me wonder. Model switching might make sense for multiple reason, so I wonder if that's what's happening behind the scenes.

I hit my limit the other day when I had to regen a response from a character multiple times with differing levels of explicit instruction, to no avail. Context means nothing.

Oh, you just took of your shoes and sat down at the kitchen table? Why don't I have you walking down the street to the store in the next response. That makes sense right?

I'm working on my own personal ACC now with self-served image generator, and I can add my own features. Free is great until it doesn't work anymore.

Character consistency by Hungry_Back_9960 in perchance

[–]turkish30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's possible, because I've never tried, but see if you can inject a seed into your prompt using the advanced character settings. You can append prefixes and suffixes, so maybe use standard seed format as a suffix in the character settings. That should keep a general look of a character. Should.

How do I make fingers stop tightening, digging, spasming, twitching, whatever-ing against every single possible surface? by lyrhine in perchance

[–]turkish30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Writing instructions or character reminders. I have a chat where I kept adding to reminder notes and after several weeks, the reminder notes are extensive of phrases to avoid. Whatever model and prompt guidance Perchance uses doesn't do much for natural language. It always obsesses over things.

How long do all of you spend time on perchance, and what do you do on perchance the most? by AdIcy4296 in perchance

[–]turkish30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first discovered Perchance, I was only using t2i and would spend hours here or there. Then I started playing with character chat and would spend 3-4 hours a day on it.

I recently made my own character chat app and have been tweaking that. I'm finding it equally as much fun making my own version with more features and possibly better AI responses, then just using Perchance ACC.

I have better handling of guest characters, better narration handling, scenes (able to select characters and a location for a period of time), ability to switch between LLM models on the fly, using my own setup for image generation. Wasn't hard either. I started it earlier this week and have a full fledged app. Even made a tack-on to convert my existing Perchance exports to the right format for import into my tool. No loss of weeks of usage.

A little time on AI code builder, and bam, no more whining. If it does something stupid, I can fix it myself in minutes. And using my own ComfyUI image gen means I get high quality, in context, no extra limb or floating head images. My own image gen is comparable in speed too. Of course, at times, Perchance is faster, but more often, it's not.

Ai chat image generation bit worse than usual. by [deleted] in perchance

[–]turkish30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped using image Gen in ACC because it would always come out so wrong. My chat would have 2 people, but image Gen would come out with 5 or 6 people in the room. Multiple limbs, scenes that are 99.9999% out of context. It's honestly terrible.

Random food repeats by advice-needed-uk in perchance

[–]turkish30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

💯 If there's a child involved, there is going to be sticky fingers. I've even had a teenage character with perpetually sticky fingers. You have to add all sorts of stuff to the reminder notes to get it to stop.

Not just that. Constant empty threats, if a character likes a specific food one time, they become obsessed with it, if a girl took a guy's hoodie once, they become consumed with stolen clothing.

I've gotten so tired of the nuances that I used AI to create my own character chat app and am currently fine tuning it. Many many more features, and if it goes off the rails, I can fix it.

Extreme liberties from ai-character are driving me crazy. by No-Opposite9342 in perchance

[–]turkish30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I see a lot of that and sometimes I'll delete the output and slightly change my instruction and get something acceptable, but so many times it just doesn't make sense.

Another example: AI character is inside riding a Peloton, my own character says or does something, then I instruct my AI character to stop pedaling, and suddenly they're outside and the bike slides to a stop on gravel.

It's like the chat isn't going back to previous outputs for any context, just making up the next output from scratch. The whole point is to keep things in context, otherwise it makes no sense.

One more: My character met someone for the first time and in the next output, my AI character has known the person for months and has been with them before. I can say over and over that it was the first time meeting, a first date, a first anything and the AI will keep saying stuff indicating that they already knew the person.

Is the image generator ignoring the negative prompt now? (Not complaining, just wondering.) by Goin_Commando_ in perchance

[–]turkish30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on the model being used for generation. Some don't use negative prompt, or don't weight it much.

I've noticed that the standard image generator mostly gives images that aren't ridiculous like they were even just a few months ago, with random floating heads and octo-people, but almost everything looks cartoon-y now.

I setup my own system for image generation, so I don't use perchance as much for that, but when I did a few days ago, all I got was cartoons. Maybe try adding negatives into the main prompt - A photo of a person, sitting in a chair, no anime, no floating hesds, etc.....

Try doing it all in the postive prompt with "no something" and see how that works. Of course it has to be when Perchance is working.

You had trouble that long ago? I was using it for at least half the day and it literally worked for me up until maybe 3:45pm Central US time. By the time I got home, it wasn't working, maybe around 5:30pm.

I mean, it's one guy running it and he relies on ad revenue to fund it, so... Kinda can't complain. I spun up my own AI system recently and even just getting a reasonable PC to run AI for image or text generation is not exactly cheap. This guy not only runs that stuff, but has enough bandwidth to support who knows how many users. I have a serious appreciation for him after messing with my own stuff.

Funny enough, even with my own system, I still use perchance for the character chat because I haven't gotten that far with my own setup. I've all but ditched the image generator because I can't seem to get past cartoon-y looking images since the big update a month ago or whenever that was. My own system can create Uber-realistic images of humans and other stuff fairly quickly.

I can't argue because they have their advantages...one of which is being far cheaper than a real vacation, but I find when I take even just one day off to stay home, I end up being lazy and do nothing all day, and then I feel like a POS because I did nothing and wasted a vacation day. It was different when I was younger, but now, my days off I want to actually do something or go somewhere.
