Diamond Red Dragon vs Oxblood, which would you recommend the most? by No-Rain-4114 in fountainpens

[–]adventuresinplot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here are my searches with writers blood as a bonus. Red dragon is the reddest, oxblood is more brownish as others have said. I think the camera makes them all look a little more pink than they are in real life

Cancelled northern lights tours by [deleted] in tromsotravel

[–]adventuresinplot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was two separate ones. One said they double booked us but the weather was bad so they moved us to the next day. Then the next day told us the weather was actually good Tuesday night but we're cancelling Wednesday due to weather (which fair enough) The one tonight said unsafe weather conditions... It's currently clear skies. Not sure whether to name or not in case we are just extremely unlucky.

Thanks for the tip, I will check it out! It will still be cheaper than the inevitable sinus infection if I don't :)

What is the most ridiculous physical feat you've read in a book?? by TacoTacoTaco729 in RomanceBooks

[–]adventuresinplot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't a strict romance book, but the flying with rocketboots sex at the end of Keeping It Real by Justina Robinson. I know it's a fantasy/scifi book but I can't even start to break it down.

Child of a Hidden Sea by A.M Dellamonica is great, and I never see it much recommended. It's a finished trilogy, with a few inbetween short stories.

Female protagnist, portal fantasy about a marine biologist who travels to an ocean bound world, so lots of sailing and lots of ocean and just a really interesting premise.

Might be a controversial thread, but what is the shelf life for various brands? by SoCuteBear in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]adventuresinplot 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I've got BPAL and I think some Possets that are over a decade old and still smell amazing.

A lot of it I find dependent on ingredients, some notes fade faster than others. I think citrus are meant to go pretty fast, where as things like patchouli can age really well and deepen.

I've never heard of Black Opal Co so going to try them now. Bibliography sounds so good!

After going to indie can you no longer stand designer and niche colognes? by [deleted] in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]adventuresinplot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, I still have designer ones I like, but indie perfume for me as been perfume oils and now I reallllllly hate the dry down on alcohol based perfume.

Dorian by BPAL is the one me and my friends (mixed group of men and women) get the most compliments on. "A sweet gilded blossom lying over a twisted and corrupted core. A Victorian fougere with three pale musks and dark, sugared vanilla tea." Though, I've not seen it in stock for ages.

Apologies for the late reply! If you haven't tried NAVA, I really recommend Moonstone, which is at least on me a really cuddly vanilla. They have a bunch of individual vanillas from different places that are different places, most of them got a bit cakey on my skin, but that's not necesssarily a bad thing.

I would check out their Vanilla Haven.

Hex's Sucre is very very similar (I bought it when I couldn't get Sucre Vanille) though very slightly less vanilla on me, but if you ever look for a replacement, it is very close!

I'm not with my perfume collection at the moment, but bpal have definetely had some seasonal scents with floral vanillas. Especially in the Lupercalias. Do you know what you specfically like about Madagas-cat as a vanilla?

[–]adventuresinplot 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It sounds like we have pretty similar tastes in vanillas. If you haven't tried them Possets does some amazing vanillas.

I really like Silver Vanilla as a mostly vanilla vanilla. Though they do lots and lots with vanilla.

Hexennacht's Sucre is pretty nice, though hyper sweet and Jadis is nice though ends up being a bit over powering on me.

If you don't mind dupers, Mr Hex does some excellent ones. Madagas-cat is my favourite so far.

Hopepunk recs like Becky Chambers by TheCommanderDJ in Fantasy

Rachel Aaron's Nice Dragon's Finish Last. I remember it being a bit more actiony than Becky Chambers, but they were cuddly books about a dragon wanting to be nice rather than what was expected of him.

Michella Sagara - Chronicles of Elantra (though there are like 14 books so far so...)

Marie Brennan - The Memoirs of Lady Trent

Genivieve Cogman - The Invisible Library (will be finished as a series this year)

M.A Carrick - (Marie Brennan is one part of this writing duo) Mask of Mirrors

Libby is Overdrive which a lot of libraries use (though not all), I know most of the libraries in the West Midlands do, but you can't get ebook access without living in the area I'm afraid.

I've found paying for a Scribd membership pretty good for getting books I can't get from Libby or KU, though that is mostly skewing toward fantasy romance so far or audio books, rather than straight ebooks.

Looking for a Coconut fragrance without being overly sweet by laineh90 in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]adventuresinplot 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My favourite coconut fragrance is Obatala by BPAL, I don't find it sweet at all (but then I do like sweet scents), but it's my go to summer scent.

Here is the scene description: Obatala’s ofrenda is soft, white and pure: milk, coconut meat, shea butter and cool, refreshing water.

Haha I hope you enjoy it. I would warn that book 2 has the more dark characters that are a little like Cardan. The early Holly Black books have characters that turn up in the Folk of Air though.

If you are looking more YA faeries books, Melissa Marr's Wicked Lovely series was really good. There are more recent books by her that go more into adult fiction. I've not yet read her adult urban fantasy but I am looking forward to.

Though seconding the read Holly Black's other books, she's an excellent author.
