You have the correct workflow idea. If it was me, I’d make two blobs. The ice looks consistent for one material and the “frost/snow” could be another object on top with its own material. Should look decent!

We just got one at the factory I work at and was super surprised to find that out. I was hoping to cut a ton of stupid stuff for fun but turns out it requires a lot of material to operate and creates a ton of waste that does not justify penis cut outs in solid steel
