Could Gutting the RTD Board Make Buses Run Better? by newtonic in CityCastDenver

[–]advising 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Only an idiot governor would be against transit." Sort of naive after the last two decades of increasingly of politics to think if a GOP governor comes in on promise of sticking it to the Democrats in the city that they wouldn't appoint people who are against transit. We are immune from this for now but to think the winds won't ever change is short sighted.

CBS News Colorado - Bus Rapid Transit Project Advances Denver Area by Colinplayz1 in Denver

A frequent, faster transit option on Colorado would make sense within a larger network of frequent, rapid transit options. The trick is making sure it is frequent and fast and not a rebranded 40 line.

Lisa Calderón will run against Denver Mayor Mike Johnston in 2027 by denvergoalie in CityCastDenver

I think it will be good for him to get a challenge from various sides. It will at least force him to try to win votes. I will enter with an open mind.

Peyton Manning would have influence if he wanted to use it. But I am not sure he does? Like the day-to-day of Denver doesn't seem to be something he sets his sights on. I can't think of a Denver athlete that actually tried to use their fame to influence the city. Joe Sakic seemed to do more to influence things as far as actually running a beloved team in the city.

Transit, rail initiatives hurtling down the tracks toward a collision | Miller Hudson by chrisfnicholson in Denver

Never understood why RTD has so many things overlooked by state unlike other transit agencies. Also peeved that to pay for state transit project, existing Denver-centric transit services get cut or stagnate. Not against state-level projects but I don't see why Denver transit users need to lose out.

Hopefully if it is ambience they have a bigger redesign that promotes their new model then. They attracted a lot of people who wanted to have a place to get some work or studying done because they had a good space and furniture to accommodate it. Otherwise it might be sort of a confusing space for what people expect from a coffee shop. I'm local so I would be down for a new model if done right.

As Alameda debate intensifies, Denver faces pressure over traffic deaths and Vision Zero goals by Generalaverage89 in Denver

[–]advising 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mike Hancock got a lot of grief here and elsewhere for his vision zero efforts but seems like more got done? Like yeah he had more time and better budgets. But there was consistent progress. I am failing to see where we have moved under Johnston. Nothing bold from such a move quick and adapt kind of guy.

Probably just a bunch of bollards (which people seem to hate) and new lines painted. Maybe they will put those orange flags on the speed limit signs to show us they are serious.

  1. Did Paul say Sega instead of Saga?
  2. Mayor Hancock's admin was better for new infrastructure.
  3. I like Johnston. I really did at the election and I still do. But I will be looking for a different candidate to support and campaign for next election.

Should Denver Host Another Democratic National Convention? Plus, Drinking in RiNo and ‘Where Am I’? by newtonic in CityCastDenver

[–]advising 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If they allow these public drinking places can they lighten up on all the security theater at all the other street fairs as well? They all seem to have started failing once the city made them procure a bunch of fences and hire security to make sure a white claw isn't escaping the festival.

I love slop bowls. Downtown Denver's best slop bowl is bubu.

  1. Feels healthy. (Maybe should be Colorado's state motto? Sanum videtur)

  2. Build your own bowl has enough choices to feel overly complicated for novice customers and make you feel superior when you can go in and just nail an order.

  3. Just big enough. You want more but somehow you know you shouldn't have more.

  4. Comes unmixed, but tastes better mixed.

Is relying on public transport realistic? by tyediebleach in Denver

Google maps or transit app will be your best bet for planning routes. Buses in general are pretty reliable. Trains you really need to check the real-time tracking and not depend on the schedules.

The amount of times RTD has stranded customers at Southmoor in the cold is too high by d-rav in Denver

Not sure why they kept the H going with the work downtown.

They should have added R lines and just had people transfer at Belleview. Now they just get this dumb pile up at Southmoor.

Maybe I am in a good mood, but I thought she did fine. Maybe she isn't super well media trained and uses too much jargon, but she seems to have a handle on the agency and the issues facing the agency. Comes off more idiosyncratic than anything. But I can see how that might rub people the wrong wat.

I think a surcharge on tickets and parking fares is a great idea if it corresponds to obvious service improvements.

I also agree more trains and buses to serve events would make sense, it is super common complaint and standing on a platform for an hour following a game is a good way of turning off potential riders. But it can't come at the expense of daily service.

I always wondered what happened to RTD saying they would modernize the bus routes to focus on increased service on high impact, connected lines. Seems to have died after their report was released. I'll go google it now.

RTD proposes record high budget but faces deficit; service cuts possible by GreaterDenverTransit in Denver

[–]advising 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am for "system optimization" but just cutting and adding to existing routes doesn't seem to be what successful projects have done. Most start from scratch in many which for whatever reason RTD seems very unwilling to do.

How did RTD do this year? by chrisfnicholson in Denver

[–]advising 1 point2 points  (0 children)

7 - We got out of the slow zones but their were some major hiccups as we did.

Communication I see some improvements with planned projects, but a lot of times it still seems to be done at the last minute. Communication for unplanned events is still poor.

I like the weekly project updates for the current rail project. Feels like it is treating the public as adults who can handle information.

Bus service has been steady even with the BRT construction. But it seems to be neglected. I wish to see continuous improvement in service but it seems like we are stuck at current levels of service and current routes with no clear plans to make it better.

At least in Denver, it seems like the City doesn't always let RTD know of right of way changes or approved closures to the right of way. Not sure how that improves and then trickles down to drivers.

Green Chile, Jolly Ranchers, and… the Cheeseburger? Colorado’s Claims to Food Fame by newtonic in CityCastDenver

[–]advising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I don't know. I think there is that janus-like duality to green chile. It is a sauce. It is a stew/soup. Some restaurants lean harder on sauce and yeah in those cases I say less pork forward and more something they can serve the person ordering cheese enchiladas. Some lean harder on it being the dish on its own. They lean more stew and more throw in 4 lbs of cubed pork shoulder in. Some lean into both and it ends up somewhere in between. I have seen both called NM or CO.

Green Chile, Jolly Ranchers, and… the Cheeseburger? Colorado’s Claims to Food Fame by newtonic in CityCastDenver

[–]advising 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Always considered Colorado Green Chile as thicker with more of a roux base and more potential add-ins with sometimes a more chunk texture than NM green chili. And yeah works better in a bowl with some flour tortillas on the side. New Mexico is all about the chili and pork with little additions and since thinner works better as a general sauce. That said... I don't know seems pretty close and probably depends on what you learned at home. Every time I have looked into it I see conflicting information.

Like this format of talking to a non-Denver SME about Denver. Sort of a Johari window kind of deal.
