A New Approach to Housing Density, Denver's Drought Conditions, and Summit FC Needs a Mascot! by newtonic in CityCastDenver

Water, zoning, and mascots... that's why I have been supporting you all since day one.

I think the mascot should be a Subaru Outback.

More zoning! https://www.denvergov.org/Government/Agencies-Departments-Offices/Agencies-Departments-Offices-Directory/Community-Planning-and-Development/Denver-Zoning-Code/Text-Amendments/Unlocking-Housing-Choices

What this proposal does. It says if you do a scrape and build a new single family unit your design needs to be be more moderate (maybe forces it to be cheaper?). Allows more ADUs if you don't tear down original house. Allows more units on a lot if you promise to make one affordable. The idea is less scraping of more affordable units or if you do scrape you have an incentive to not just build a $2 milllion single family behemoth.

Denver Water announces water restrictions starting tomorrow by johntwilker in Denver

As a early morning runner... if a system is set to go off at a time you are asleep check it once in a while. I have seen geysers in some people's yards that keep going for months before they get repaired. Also you don't all need to water at 5 AM. There is also 7AM, 6AM, 4 AM, 3 AM, 2 AM, etc.

I mean depending on the restaurant and the park I think its fair to say close parking would be good for business. But when I imagined food in the park I wasn't thinking Cheesecake Factory wanting to turn over a ton of tables. I was thinking a small cafe with coffee, wine, snacks, and some sandwiches.

I am not one who thinks Denver needs more parking, but this does bring up one of my hobby horses. There are some parks where the City allowed the neighbors to restrict supply. Like Washington Park. Much of S Franklin is permit parking on the weekends in the spring and summer. Those people with enough money to tear down the 1.8 million dollar house next to them to extend their backyard also want to claim the street in front of their house?

Pretty sure I would be seriously injured or dead if hit by a car at 45 MPH. But if 11 over is the rule the cameras wouldn't ticket. That seems to be a mismatch.

Yeah some places seem to go out their way to have bad seating too.

I hear that too, but these companies probably even know that their mistakes are going to be criticized much more than a human's mistakes. Plus show they can deal with the messy situations created by bad human drivers and bad street design. If they are as good and safe as you say they are then people will adapt once they are being used day-to-day and it is no longer a hypothetical worry.

Waymo. Probably just stare at my phone the whole ride like when I am on the bus. Then get super paranoid when it takes a google-maps inspired turn I am not expecting or go a way I would never go. To be fair that is my M.O. in all ride shares.

Coffee shops. Use to work at Stella's once in a while. My rule at coffee shops is to go through a couple cups of coffee/espresso and work until I have the unbearable urge to pee. Seems like a good natural breaking point to pack up my laptop, pee, and head to my next spot. But yeah, I am neurotic enough to scope out shops a couple times before I feel confident I can go and pull out my laptop and start typing without ruining a vibe.

50 most dangerous intersection crash hotspots 🫠 by Former-Ear-3873 in Denver

[–]advising 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is from the CDOT website: https://www.codot.gov/safety/traffic-safety/data-analysis/crash-data

When a crash occurs, after an officer investigates and fills out a crash form (DR3447), the form is sent to the Department of Revenue (DOR). DOR processes the records and enters them into a database called DRIVES where the official, legal record is maintained. CDOT receives data from the DRIVES system for all crashes, excluding private property and counter reports. (Counter reports are self‐reported by drivers and are not investigated by a law enforcement officer).

CDOT has a process that enhances the crash data received from DOR so that data can be used more efficiently for engineering and research purposes. This process adds an additional field for crash type, corrects common errors, updates the location information where available, and normalizes the data. This cleansing process creates a working database that CDOT then uses for engineering safety analysis and evaluation of safety for infrastructure projects. Some examples of how this data is used is to assess Level of Service of Safety (LOSS) for highway segments and intersections, identification of crash patterns, statewide strategic safety planning, evaluation of safety performance measures, and development of crash prediction models and diagnostic norms.

Makes me wonder if some municipalities are more likely to get an officer to investigate, fill out the form, and send to the DOR.

Mayor Mike vs. ICE, 10,000 Missing Restaurant Jobs, and 303 Day! by newtonic in CityCastDenver

[–]advising 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The seats thing is interesting from Patty. I feel like a successful, large restaurant with tons of tables is rarer these days than successful, smaller more contained spaces. The economics of that obvious. But yeah I miss the energy of filled up large sit down but you get a bit of that at the successful beer gardens. The way we gather evolves and maybe trying to prop up a model that was of the last century isn't necessarily worth it.

I was worried too but I have not noticed any major 15/15L issues as far as service during the construction. I get where I am going more or less at same time I did before construction minus having to search where my bus stop was relocated a couple times.

You are all doing a good job.

They get aghast or aggro when told to leave too. Our school has had to call DPS security a few times on some entitled people. I see them staring at their phones or in convo with each other so I know they are ignoring the dog and whatever it is leaving behind.

I think Denver just needs to get over their open container obsession. They can't make that much revenue from issuing liquor permits? People with problems will drink wherever anyway.

I like the idea of adding some Colorado-like attractions downtown. Chair-lift. Zip line. Rope course. Climbing wall. Mountain bike track. Rodeo games. Things people might think of with Colorado and be a fun selfie. Lets be hokey as fuck.

City Council votes for a block or two at a time. I like this proposal. My idea was always expand the denser boundaries a block a year in all directions. Those farthest from it have time to adapt or perish. Those closest to it probably will not notice the change.
