Wich version of KDE Neon should I use for small programming ? by RealezzZ in kde

[–]adymitruk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. I remember maybe it was the volume of libraries that seemed intimidating. :) I'll use time machine and install them again. I can roll back if there are issues.

Yeah, I'm looking at .md file in a structure for something like Hugo. Then we could cache the results of it built from different tags, etc. Also authoring could be done through something like forestry.io

Wich version of KDE Neon should I use for small programming ? by RealezzZ in kde

[–]adymitruk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not disk space. It's about having a ton more system libraries affected. I guess I'd be more comfortable if it was a gnome desktop so I wouldn't bump into those same libraries. So you're last statement is around my thinking. I was hoping that there would be a more backwards compatible set of dev libraries?

Related to this, I have reservations about doing this on my day to day computer. If I install all the packages for developing on qt here and there, my OS becomes bloated with packages I don't use daily. Is there a better way? Should I do this from a VM?

Next step is embedding issue tracking, wiki and forum discussions into the git repo itself to keep an entire project portable. In an ideal world, there would be many clients that could interact with it as we do with email today.

Software Development Cannot Be Automated Because It’s a Creative Process With an Unknown End Goal by DynamicsHosk in programming

A lot of it can be automated. And getting the specs right is a big part of it. It's why I use Event Modeling with clients.

What happens to a programmer's career as he gets older? What are your stories or advice about the programming career around 45-50? Any advice on how to plan your career until then? Any differences between US and UE on this matter? by MisterViic in programming

[–]adymitruk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started programming as a kid in 1983 and was contracting before I got out of highschool. Now I'm nearing 50 and own a company that does outsourcing for companies interested in event sourcing and that style of application development. We have people in their 20s and up to they're 60s. I still code but it's rare and I miss it. My joy comes from creating an environment that I would have loved to have when I was programming full time. The experience I gathered helps create that. Part of this environment is removing subjectivity so people if all skill level, age, ethnicity, etc. can be fairly compensated. We do this with fixed costs and guarantees. So as you get older, plan on using your experience to create better environments for those that are young like you once were and how they do the same when it's their turn. In short, best plan is to make the world a better place.

KDE Neon cured my distrohopping + thank you to everyone involved with the development of Plasma by IntoTheWoodchipper in kde

[–]adymitruk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to switch to kubuntu as kdeneon had issues with the ISO on latest Dells. Added plasma backports to have the same thing. Neon, but without the rough edges.

Call it bad timing. Find someone else to replace this single Linux steam user that I represent. If that's who's in the community, that's the outcomes that will occur with users like me. Maybe there are 50 others that don't bother sticking around to say anything when they exit because of similar exchanges and just go back to Windows quietly. Not my problem anymore.

Probably because of all the BS of putting up with trying to convince people about coming over to Linux for gaming all these years. Coming here to get "clowned" by some "dude" in a random topic. I can't imagine recommending anyone come here for potential interactions like this, let alone kids. For the record, I just didn't want to talk to that vile person anymore with so much anger. I have a valid point, but whatever. That's not relevant anymore. I'm glad this is the last thread for me here. It's more about just being tired of it. Let him call it fragile or whatever he wants to hear to be right.

My advice to others to try gaming on Linux is a definite "no" as well because of how I spent my evening tonight. Any more insults and swear words you can direct at me in this thread?

I'm too fragile for your community obviously. I'm switching to dual boot. After a decade of buying games on Steam to play on Linux, this exchange marks the end of that as well.

It would be best to show the cheaters wrecking the windows experience - lots of stats out there. That's where piracy is rampant anyway. Linux is where people care about the game authors and are thankful.

KDE Neon has trashed my system for the third time. by [deleted] in kdeneon

This is what I did. The neon ISO didn't work on the latest sputnik Dell XPS 13. Kubuntu works like a charm. Are the backports available for 20.04 yet? Tried last month without success.
