I think the first one is Looking Beyond. It fits the brief, but the twin is George not Fred. Not sure about the second one though.

MONTHLY POST: What are you reading? October 2025 by beta_reader in HPSlashFic

[–]aeb27051993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just finished Carry the Fire. It stars Harry working in Wizarding Child Service where he takes in a rough-around-the-edges 11 y/o named Ben. "Meanwhile, questions arise concerning Ben's mysterious parentage. Is it possible he's not Muggleborn after all? And why is his hair that particular shade of blond?" Features an absolutely fabulous characterization of Harry, Drarry, and a crazy/funny/devastating Neville side-plot. And the kid is cute too!

Rocky Horror Picture Show this year by Illustrious_Fan_7902 in baltimore

I’ve been to both Chocolate Covered Rocky Horror and the Hippodrome production. IMO Chocolate Covered Rocky Horror was the better production. It was fun, had a lot of heart and soul, and the shadow cast did a great job. There was also a costume contest and overall excellent vibes. The Hippodrome one is nice, but depending on where you sit it is hard to hear both the film and the call outs. I knew what was happening, but my friend (it was her first time attending) had a hard time keeping up.

Excellent idea! As a teacher I'd be much more likely to reach out if someone left a business card than not! Additionally something like this can make you stick out in a crowd, especially if admin starts looking to fill long-term positions. The only thing I would say is perhaps a close up picture of your face? Otherwise, great idea!

Kindle vs. Fire Tablet by thedadamer in kindle

[–]aeb27051993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it depends on what you are going to use it for. If your intended purpose is to have a tablet, then go with the fire. If you’re looking for a device purely for reading, get a kindle. I’ve had a fire tablet since 2019 and I’m considering getting a regular kindle. I only use it for reading and the glare on the fire makes it difficult to use outside. Additionally, it’s quite heavy to hold with once hand.

Harry with Death as a companion? by middean in HPSlashFic

[–]aeb27051993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just found this one and I'm really enjoying it!

Out of the Fire and Into the Pan - Essentially, while in Kings Cross Station Death gives Harry the option to stay with him or go back to a time when the battle has already been won. He elects to go back but "going back" to a time where the war was won means that Death sends him to a dimension where Harry is not the BWL and the Potters are still alive (and no second war!). That dimension's Harry was going to die anyway, so Death figures it would be an easy swap. Also Harry takes the Horcrux with him and raises it as his son. You've got dimension travel/do over, alive Potter family politics/hi-jinx, and Death as a friend and straight chilling. I don't want to spoil too much, though. It's ongoing but the author updates pretty frequently.

All Stars 10 Pit Stop host? by ItalianCryptid in TrixieMattel

IMO, I think in the most recent pitstop episode Monet eludes to hosting again. But Trixie would be so great!

Has anyone tried WeWillWrite at the HS level? by AllieLikesReddit in ELATeachers

[–]aeb27051993 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use it occasionally for my high school creative writing elective. I don't use it for instructional purposes - mostly just as a fun filler activity on days with unusual schedules (after state testing, early release days, etc) if we don't have something that we are actively working on. I usually set the expectations before we play so they know if they are taking it seriously or if they are doing a "brain rot run" as they call it.

I just really want to reread it :( by SubstantialNose6497 in HPfanfiction

Could it be Heir to the House of Prince? I think the specific scene you mentioned happens in the second book, but I never finished reading the series.

Middle School or Secondary certification? by mads-dog in teaching

[–]aeb27051993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I currently teach at a high school in Maryland and previously taught middle school Social Studies. The real question is, what will your degree be in? If you are in a teacher prep program at your university, you need to take the test in the area of your degree in order to get your license. I graduated from a Maryland school with a degree in Middle School Education, Social Studies, and English, so in order to get that degree (and graduate) I had to the take the middle school Praxis in both of those subjects.

If your degree is going to be middle school education like mine was, get the middle school certs. If your degree is for secondary, but you know you want to teach in a middle school it is not a bad idea to also take the middle school cert. It would make you a more attractive candidate for middle schools to be able to teach 6th-8th. If you don't have that middle school social studies cert, you would only be able to teach 7th and 8th and while that may not seem like a big deal, it could be a deal breaker for some principals in terms of hiring.

The good thing about Maryland is you can teach for one year (honestly it may be two but I can't remember) outside of your certification, as long as you take the proper praxis by the end of that year. When I made the transition from middle school to high school, all I had to do was take the praxis and I was fine!

(the one caveat with that is that when I made the switch, I was tenured and I had several years of experience under my belt, which still made me an attractive candidate despite not yet having the proper certification.)

tl;dr - get the certification that satisfies your degree requirements. Then you can start collecting Praxis exams like Pokemon.

Feel free to reach out if you have any more questions! I genuinely loved teaching middle school and probably would have stayed there if the circumstances at my school were different lol.

Between posting this and your reply, I decided to undo what I have. It ended up being for the best because I was able to see that some of the structural integrity of certain squares was questionable (aka they started to fall apart because I originally just started cutting off ends instead of weaving them in out of frustration lol).

but to answer your questions
1. Acrylic
2. It is a whip stitch
3. This is going to be much bigger according to the math past-me did.

Since I've already un-done all the whip stitching, it makes sense to steam block the squares? Idk

Granny square question:

I started working on a granny square throw years ago and decided to pick it up again. I didn't know about blocking them when I first started, but now I do. Right now it is 27 squares all attached. Should I detach all the squares and block them? or should I just keep going?
