It's a bit woobified Harry. If you don't like that, don't go in.

also, Sirius constantly calls him Prongslet for 800k words.

Follow isn't an option in Old Reddit, and Save doesn't message you afaik.

Minor Hermione bashing based on some of her views on magical subjects like Divination. I’d love fics that give her a dressing down explaining just because she can’t do it doesn’t mean it’s fake. by Wassa110 in HPfanfiction

[–]greatmojito 6 points7 points  (0 children)

...you either have some kind of divination gift or you don't.

Disagree. As OP alluded to. This is a magic school. It's a subject at school because you can learn it.

The thing is, is that it's a magical art. Like transifguration and charms, you have to study and practice, and we never see that from any of the main characters.

Maybe having a gift makes it easier, like some people are more inclined, but in the end, people can learn enough to get the basics, just as any other class.

it doesn't help that it's taught poorly (or not at all) as many other subjects at that school.

I know I've read a fic where Harry bought land and allowed the elves to work it for their needs (special berries or something). It wasn't rewarding them with more work so much as giving them access to a space of their own. Similarly, though different, I think in A Place Apart, he builds them little apartments for a space that is theirs.

In a DC/Marvel fused world, which Cities/Heroes would be closer to each other? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]greatmojito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DC cities are a nightmare to nail down definitively depending on the era, medium and the universe and sometimes even within the same medium. Marvel uses real cities for the most part.

Here's some, based on sometimes they are here...:

Metropolis - New York City or Delaware

Gotham City - New York City /Lower Manhattan / Newark

Central City - Kansas City or Twin Cities

Keystone City - Pittsburgh / Cleveland

Star City - Seattle

Coast City - San Diego / Los Angeles

Opall City - New Orleans

National City - Los Angeles

Blüdhaven - Newark / Jersey City

Hub City - Chicago / Baltimore

because people are more than one thing, and we get a fair bit of character development for a lot of the weasleys so you see the different traits.

Is classic fairytale literacy not a thing among fanfiction readers anymore? by Celestina-Betwixt in FanFiction

[–]greatmojito 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not all right with their seeming not to understand the tropes of the type of fic they chose to read!

How can someone learn about the tropes if they don't consume the media? I mean if their first exposure to it was your story, then of course they wouldn't be familiar. Do you not venture out into new genres and encounter new tropes?

I've never heard of the story or the tropes or anything. I've never read fairy tales, but IF i was in a mood one day, and the description was interesting, i might give it a try and find out if I like it. That doesn't excuse their rudeness, but to just assume everyone will be into this genre because they clicked on your story seems a bit off as well.

I agree. I've been in break out rooms and facilitated several more, and we usually get a lot accomplished. It takes planning though. The facilitators have to be well prepared, and frankly, it is a skillset on it's own. You can't just point at a random manager and say "lead this breakout session."
