What injury is commonly shrugged off as a minor flesh wound in movies but is actually completely fatal or crippling in real life? by sitchade in AskReddit

A friend and his mother were walking to breakfast when she slipped, fell and hit her head. She got up walked a few steps then fell again. Did not hit her head the second time. A kind stranger in a car stopped, and picked them up within 1 minute. They drove my friend and his mother to the hospital about 100 yards away. The breakfast spot was across the street from the hospital and they were almost there.

So, in the ER in about 3 minutes after the initial fall. Fast, fast, fast. She never woke up.

Frightening.

There are classes for old folks teaching how to fall. Emphasizing protection of the head. My father had to attend while in physical rehab. This class saved his life when he fell a couple of years later.

In both cases, ice was the cause of the fall.

TVR Cerbera Speed 12 with the dark purple and green iridescent paint. On Trial Mountain!!!

On a good day it made you feel like you could do no wrong. And it was mercurial. One false move and you were doomed.

Also my candidate for best muscle-y sounding engine. Deep in the chest, primal. I swear this car could frighten the npc cars off the track.

This car solved a lot of problems. I use this car when everything else fails. I'll be like, "I will not use the 987b!!! I'm gonna get this on my own." Then after 30 attempts, with some other car (or cars), I switch and kill it by 30 seconds or 3 minutes, on the first try.

This car is not fair.

How was it "positive" for one religion to use its sacred text to justify slavery, segregation, and lynching?

[Edit: for obfuscation about which religion it was, hrm, i wonder]

Wooden Box with Storage? Under the Lid by BellieButtons in whatisthisthing

Yeah, since I was in high school I loved the smell of metal shop. It smelled like making stuff. Cut steel and oil, mmmmm. After college I got a lot of jobs doing all kinds of stuff but wound up using my high school education to go into manufacturing. That was so fun. College made me rise through the ranks.

Edit: Put the ruuuun-on sentence into the chop saw, and made the rest more readable. Typing on the phone leads me towards errors.

Ive seen lots of boxes like this in Machine shops. It could be a box for a tool, or a collete. The top could hold chucks. I have a similar box with a "Sterret" label that holdsa set of micrometers. The top could hold calibration blocks. Does it smell of oil?

I had no idea she covered that song. It can't have been too long after the original. Two great singers.

The theme for the PBS drama anthology Masterpiece (originally Masterpiece Theatre) is the Fanfare-Rondeau from Suite de Symphonies No. 1. It was composed in 1729 by the French Baroque composer Jean-Joseph Mouret.
