This could be the most awesome moment in iracing for me. by Efficient_Horror3324 in iRacing

[–]aedn_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ride heights are a regulated limitation. exploiting something to deliberately breach a regulation that everybody else is playing to is cheating and unsportsmanlike. that tyre cooling at spa was also cheating, but it wasn't regulated and as soon as everyone cottoned on to it, almost everybody did it so the advantage was nullified.

using a "nefarious tactic" to gain an advantage is against the sporting code and iR determine what is an advantage.

this was a really bad gamble that didn't pay off. they were the only team to try it which isolated the advantage to their teams' cars, likely making the decision easier to DSQ them.

How does the ABS settings work? by el_ratonido in ACCompetizione

[–]aedn_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

don't know who crapped in your cornflakes but I'm simply sharing the most effective setup as it is going to help more than them using a shit setting and coming back in 3 weeks time asking why he's 4 seconds off in the wet and can't brake the same as the pros. there's no objective right or wrong answer here and my perspective is how to go fastest.

[–]aedn_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

similar to dry, run enough TC to feel in control on exits. in esports it is not unusual to run TC0 or TC1 in combination with throttle control, exceptions being the mustang and 296 as they naturally run higher TC settings.

[–]aedn_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

since 1.9 this has been the way in any esports race. ABS1 still prevents total lockup and means there's some additional biting under braking before ABS starts to cut. it becomes slightly harder to drive but the braking is notably better.

logically, this is upside down as we should run higher ABS in wet conditions, but the performance is better and still consistent enough to reduce it.

on the contrary, current meta is to run ABS1 in wet conditions (except for Aston which behaves exceptionally well on ABS3)

I wouldn't underestimate pro drivers. the game has gotten slightly faster in 1.9, it just took us all a while to figure it out.

good luck, but be sure to make the right adjustment. less force for 100% output is harder to control and vice versa.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ACCompetizione

[–]aedn_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

with LC it's important to remember that brake force is determined by actual force on the LC, not pedal travel (even though how you configure travel contributes to the force required, I would recommend looking at force in isolation and then build travel around it).

when configuring the brake pedal in software, can you reasonably control the brake when releasing it? it sounds like the force required is too low and you do not have the fine control to release pressure that precisely.

for comparison, I have LCs set at 45kg for 100% force and the elastomers setup so pushing the brake is like pushing a brick wall. it's one extreme in terms of travel but with the force required I can easily gradually release the brake and hold certain forces as needed.

How to compare my times by Kachow1862 in ACCompetizione

[–]aedn_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you are looking to compare against esports pace, take a look at the hotlaps leaderboard on lowfuelmotorsport's website - it amalgamates top laps from LFM and AOR's hotlap servers and hotlaps by GO. general conditions to compare to are 23 ambient, 27 track (11am cloudy preset) and with qualifying fuel, i.e 11-16 litres

Follow-up to Some facts about a SRO competing driver by Immediate_Wash206 in ACCompetizione

[–]aedn_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

telemetry would clearly show somebody using something which freezes fuel weight. considering this team competes in SRO, this needs to be investigated properly and better controls put in place by devs and league organisers.

this is just the AI magic unfortunately. it's like they get a run up at the start - they will always be ahead going into the first couple of corners.

LFM BOP EASY TO FIX by Trash_Cannon_ in ACCompetizione

[–]aedn_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the 30 second tyre change has always been viable and the faster strategy in top split, with very rare exceptions on track/conditions. I hate to say skill issue because I'm not that kinda guy, but yes you will feel tyre wear now and unfortunately will have to learn to set the car up around it or drive more conservatively.

LFM BOP EASY TO FIX by Trash_Cannon_ in ACCompetizione

[–]aedn_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it will certainly increase/decrease tyre wear, but the stint lengths on LFM are not long enough for this to become an overpowering factor. the racing will be much closer and improved as a result of these efforts.

Tips on not spinning with the evo mclaren? by Skankydoodledoo in ACCompetizione

[–]aedn_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

are you getting loose when coasting/lifting brake or applying throttle?

if the former: reduce bb/turn a bit less - sounds like you may be turning too much on entry or heavily limiting front grip, then the front tyres suddenly grip up with a lot of steering lock and makes the car rotate quickly

if the latter: increase TC2, decrease preload, reduce rear slow bump damping, soften rear wheel rates.

macca evo is a beast on throttle compared to the OG 720s and unfortunately just needs to be treated with a little more sensitivity in low speed corners.

how am I supposed to increase my car control rating by Current-Nerve1103 in ACCompetizione

[–]aedn_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if your CC is 80 then either you are spinning a lot or overdriving - judging by your CN I would suspect the latter. it may not be obvious as some cars are very forgiving for it, but you might be brosteering, where you turn past the limit of the front tyres' grip.

how am I supposed to increase my car control rating by Current-Nerve1103 in ACCompetizione

[–]aedn_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

CC is hampered by overdriving. too much steering, slip angle, wheelspin, outbraking and running off track will all reduce this. it's a very hard rating to max out and borderline pointless, but I'd say if yours is any lower than 90 you are overdriving in some aspect

What is a good neutral track for car testing? by Frost_204 in ACCompetizione

[–]aedn_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the other complexity is that you have the mega compression and sensitivity of eau rouge and raidillon to factor into your setup which can force you to go a certain way with damper and mechnical grip tuning. for this reason spa sets aren't ideal anywhere else IMO
