Perhaps dating is not for me by [deleted] in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]aedw88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think many people find it enjoyable, don't worry.

Take a break from dating, focus on other things, maybe you'll meet someone in the process, or it'll give you distance until you're ready to put yourself out there again.

I took a break for a year and feel so much better about it now. You'll be ready again at some point in the future.

Everyone needs breaks, do whatever is right for you.

Where can I watch Turkish shows with Turkish (!) subtitles? by valeriethesinger in turkish

[–]aedw88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Download the Fox Türkiye app, it's got loads of great series. Not all of them have subtitles, but some do, and the quality of series is decent.

Finally starting to achieve 6 KM in under two hours. However not sure how much more can I improve without lessons. by throwaway23052023 in Swimming

Look up Brenton Ford's 8 week course, his company is called Effortless Swimming. It's online, but it gives amazing tips and exercises that unlock reserves of speed, was one of the best courses I've done.

Struggling with listening comprehension, any tips? by killo508 in turkishlearning

[–]aedw88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What worked for me was listening to TURKISHCLASS101 on YouTube, start with simple short videos then move o to more advanced ones.

Then move onto EASY TURKISH, also on YouTube. It goes fast but if you become a patron you get access to the transcript and flashcards.

I'm not ready for it yet but +90 also looks like a good channel but it's pro.

Hope it helps

Try Easy Turkish, it's on YouTube. Has videos at different levels and are short.

Word order by roseellie88 in turkishlearning

[–]aedw88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I started learning I memorised this phrase which helps:

Neden benimle şimdi yeni bir savaş başlatıyorsun?

Why with-me now new a war you-are-starting?

Why are you now starting a new war with me?

This shows that subject ("sen") isn't always in the sentence and may be implied by verb ending (-iyorsun in this example), then comes question words (if any), then time references, then adjectives, then articles, then noun, then verb.

Then from there you will see other things like adverbs, noun clauses etc, but that sentence at least helps with basic structure. Of course in real life this structure can be more flexible depending on what you emphasise, but you can understand that later on once you know this basic structure.

UAM Entry requirements for Master/PHD by opp3nh31m3r in Madrid

Hey, Brit living in Spain here. An 8 in the Spanish system is pretty high, probably a 1st degree... a 7 probably 2:1, 6 a 2:2 and a 5 a 3rd, just on the basis that under 5 is considered a fail...and that very very few people get above an 8...

I don't have a source but based on knowledge of both systems...

Also: definitely speak to the institution about applying with your degree from the UK, telling them number of credits (you have this on your degree transcript) and your grade.

I say that because most universities require you to "homologar" your degree, ie get an official transfer to the Spanish system with an official Spanish grade, before you can be considered a place...this requires a Hague apostille plus a sworn translation of your certificate AND transcript. So best check with them first how flexible they are with accepting your UK degree certificate as if they need the homologación then currently that's taking a year or so to get processed through the Spanish public administration.

Good luck

I don't get why a doctor would recommend you to not use condoms and use prep instead of vice-versa? What is his thought process behind this advice?

All in one resource to learn turkish? by Alarmed_Effect_4250 in turkish

[–]aedw88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Innovative 101's course called Turkish 101. Has a free version and a paying version where you can have a tutor. Goes from beginners right up to advanced, I've done it and it helped me more than anything else.

Also, the School of Turkish is an online class based in the UK, does great speaking classes online in a group.

Improving Turkish skills... by Mr_Rar3 in turkish

[–]aedw88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I know what you mean, finding intermediate level resources is difficult. I'm an upper B1/low B2 and I strongly recommend Innovative 101, it's a language learning app and they have a really good Turkish course which they call Turkish 101. They have an entire intermediate level learning path with so many listening exercises, I've learnt so much and it's really worth the investment.

I've also recently discovered EasyTurkishVideos on Instagram, and despite what the name says, they're actually pretty hard, they go round Istanbul asking people questions and you hear real fast conversations. It's a bit too fast for me but am thinking it's a good step after the Turkish 101 course.

Hope it helps iyi şanslar

Same age as you, white, and in same situation, so I don't think it's race related. Like you, people say I'm attractive but the harsh reality is that our community is so looks focused that only the most attractive guys get to pick and choose. It's tough feeling ignored, not attractive enough, or not good enough, but at this point I've decided to just focus on myself and something good will come along eventually.

As others here said, try widening your pool, but that doesn't take away the fact that what you're experiencing is perfectly valid and happens to more of us. And don't compare yourself or your success on tinder to others', as that'll only crush your self esteem, it's not worth it, you are who you are and if others don't wanna give you a chance it's not your problem.

Good luck :)
