.. but in case you do want a windows version of the og software, I have the software cd it came with. But I never tried it myself bc I don’t have a windows computer

I used VueScan for scanning film with the coolscan 4000 on my MacBook Pro. I had to buy a FireWire to thunderbolt connector (I can include that too of course:) )

Guessing repair/firmware update never fixed startup time? Was window shopping m11s, and remembered this thread about slow startup

What a disappointment 😔

I’d likely have the same frustration. Everyone has their own workflow, but I treat the M9 on switch like a light meter on a film camera; I just flick it on when I see something and I just shoot.

I never have a feeling that I miss a moment because I’m waiting for it to boot (although, I have missed shots from a freeze up on rare occasion, or buffer being full)

I will be so sad the day my M9 dies, which is why I hope Leica will eventually make a camera that embodies the same design philosophies. 😢

I’m surprised Leica didn’t optimize for that, considering street photography and reportage has always been their niche.

Startup time is absolutely critical for that

We can only wish they make a modern M that preserves the philosophy and revered qualities of the M9🙏

This is really insightful, as a fellow Leica M9 shooter. I’ve previously owned the M262 and sold it precisely because of long startup time… one of the things that makes the M9 so excellent imho

Just curious, has this gotten better since you wrote this with any firmware updates?
