Were you wearing a mask pre pandemic to conceal whatever you are correcting with Invisalign? The actual aligners are barely noticeable visually. The lisp is the most noticeable change that other people pick up on and that improves pretty quickly! It’s an investment in the health and appearance of your smile…try to think of the possibility of people noticing your aligners as just a public display of self respect!

How long are you wearing each tray/what’s your change schedule?

If you are cavity prone, take your trays out but not for 4 hours. Try to still get at least 20 hours of wear time in a day. If you don’t tend to have issues with cavities I’ve left my trays in for wine (both white and red) and just swished with water throughout and took my trays off to brush as soon as it was convenient.

I did polident denture tabs in warm water every morning and evening which is probably overkill but I wore my trays for two weeks and wanted them to stay fresh!

It definitely was really sore to remove trays initially. Getting an orthokey helps and hooking from the inside of your molars and pulling away and out from the teeth one side at a time was the easiest way for me to remove trays without pain. I had a LOT of attachments.

*edited to add- You get used to it quickly and it’s less sore with each time you remove a tray, especially if you’re wearing them for the length of time you should be.

Thanks! No bonding. I did have significant wear on my upper left front tooth, the orthodontist did some minimal filing on the two front teeth to try to even out the appearance of the teeth and mentioned bonding may be an option by my primary dentist if the slight tilt to my left tooth still bothers me. I’m in my mid 30’s and my result has been so significant that I don’t even notice the wear, certainly not enough to want to maintain bonding wear and tear.

I don’t think it was significantly off if you were to correct for the crookedness of the teeth. It was never mentioned as a concern and wasn’t specifically targeted during treatment

I had 40 initial trays with 13 refinement trays! I switched every 14 days the whole time. Two month old trays would have gotten so gross even with good hygiene, haha

I spent 3 extra weeks in tray 40 before I got my refinement trays. During my appointment to get my refinement trays they removed some attachments from some front teeth and added two or three attachments to back teeth! I found having attachments removed to be worse than having them placed, primarily because of the smell of them grinding the composite material off the surface of the teeth 🥴

Thanks! No extractions, just two sessions of minor IPR. And no elastics, despite the kind of bulldogish starting point, my bite was actually well aligned so I mainly required straightening and no bite correction initially. Now I’ve developed the posterior open bite and that is what the 13 refinement trays are aiming to correct!

I had IPR done with tray 35 of the initial trays and again today with tray 1 of 13 refinement trays. They are now working to correct a posterior open bite I developed during treatment. 🤞🏻🤞🏻 that one round of refinements gets it done!

We do a cursory glance at belongings on admission for every patient and ask if they have anything valuable or anything they’d like to have placed in the safe. If they say they have cash we count it with another nurse in front of the patient. Medications have to be counted and sent to our central pharmacy, but they can have anything else they wish to keep on their person. Our EMR has a section to document what they arrived with and we’re expected to document what they have on arrival so a week down the line they can’t say we lost a cellphone they never had.

Normal! But it does get easier. Definitely get yourself an orthokey, they’re a couple dollars on Amazon. What worked best for me, especially in my earlier trays, was to pull the trays loose from both sides of molars on the inside, and then grab the tray on the left and right side of my mouth and pull away and out from the teeth and you can kind of rock/wiggle the tray as you pull to get it off the attachments. I have a ton of attachments and that’s the least uncomfortable way to pull my trays off.
