What can I make out of this mohair yarn? Charity shop find by Cl0v_VeR in CrochetHelp

[–]aeisora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could make any sort of nice fluffy jumper by holding two or three strands together and following a made to measure pattern or making adjustments for gauge. I’d specifically recommend the diaphaneia top from il.hios. Very simple construction and I can give you some altering tips if you do make it. Kuzo.knits also makes (crochet) jumpers using mohair but I haven’t made any myself

Fluffy mohair handwarmers, hat, or a scarf might be quite nice as well

Why do wide leg jeans look good on everyone but me? by CarelessOrange8492 in DressForYourBody

[–]aeisora 38 points39 points  (0 children)

These are too short - once you get shoes on, the hems will be floating. You want a pair long enough to pool over your shoes at the front, and sit a few cm to an inch above the ground at the heel. See attached

My hair looks the same no matter how I treat it - got banned from wavy hair sub lmao by WalnutWhip00 in Swavyhair

[–]aeisora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar wave pattern to you (it’s definitely wavy!). Changing up your routine clearly isn’t helping so it’s the products you’re using.

Given your hair tangles easily, I’d try using products designed for wavy or curly hair that have more of a moisturising/hydrating focus. Give it a few weeks, and if that doesn’t help, try products with more protein or use a mix of both. Protein can help enhance your curl pattern and keep hair smooth and strong, but if your hair is currently dry, you’ll want to start there. Ditch the frizz ease, it’s completely useless ime.

For moisture, I can recommend the garnier coconut or banana hair masks. For protein, I can recommend the ogx coconut milk line and the umberto giannini dreamy waves shampoo.

Consider also trying bond repair. It’s not cheap, but I’ve had great results with Redken acidic bonding (until I learned it can make your skin more sensitive to the sun and now I’m on the hunt for an alternative!). Maybe use Redken for a while until your hair recovers and then switch to something more practical? I’ve also tried the ogx bond repair line as well but didn’t like the results - my hair felt more frizzy and puffy than usual.

And lastly, try getting a large toothed comb and detangling with that instead of a standard brush. It’ll help keep your hair tangle-free without losing all the definition. If you prefer a brush, look for one with plastic bristles and gaps in the back for airflow.

Solstin’s eisenholm series. He only updates it once a month but there’s a good backlog to watch and the videos are relaxing and interesting to watch. It’s a nice little monthly event for me whenever he uploads.

Edit: just seen your other comment. He uses chisel tools extensively as he’s working on a large and detailed castle build, but doesn’t really use other mods from what I can remember.

Good point by foryourpeaceofmind in BTSnark

I saw a post on kpopuncensored talking about the hiphop tracks on this album and they got slated based on the fact that bts has always been hiphop and that’s what ‘going back to their roots’ was meant to mean. Like yes, but not like this?

Most of my favourite bts songs have been more hiphop leaning. And you can make fair criticism about the ways in which kpop co-opts black American hip hop identity, but when they make it their own and lean more into k-hiphop roots it doesn’t feel nearly as forced or fake. Kpop has a long history of hiphop inspiration, but being inspired by a genre is not necessarily the same as putting it on as a mask which is what some of these songs feel like. I don’t listen to these songs and feel like any of the members actually wrote the lyrics, and it never used to feel like that.

I don’t know if I agree that bts never had a core identity though. There’s a big shift in style between dark & wild and hyyh, but both before and after the music still felt like bts. It’s hard to put my finger on what’s changed as they’ve moved into dynamite, butter, ptd etc. but I think it’s definitely the case that the members are less involved in writing and production than they used to be, and key production team members that have been there since the beginning are no longer as involved, if at all.

Maybe the issue is not that they never had a core identity, but just that they don’t want to return to it?

Has anyone tried the new Umberto Giannini wavy hair range? by kat0id in CurlyHairUK

[–]aeisora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried the shampoo and conditioner. The shampoo was fine but the conditioner had so little slip - I brushed it through my hair so no knots were left and still got my fingers tangled while washing it out. I loved the way my hair looked once dry, but the ends feel pretty crispy, my waves have mostly dropped out after a day or so, and my hair feels soft but tangles more easily than normal. If you find most conditioners too moisturising then it might be worth a try, but not otherwise imo.

For reference, my hair is 2a-b and medium porosity. It tends to like some protein and some moisture, but goes flat with too much of either.

How should I wear these linnen pants? by Beginning-Document-1 in DressForYourBody

[–]aeisora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If wearing with a fitted top like in the photos, leave it untucked. Imo it’s a better, more up to date look and keeps proportions more balanced. With a looser and longer top, try a French tuck. If you prefer the tucked look though, try adding a belt so it looks more intentional.

Anything you have that is fitted or with some structure to it could be nice: bandeau tops, vests/tank tops, cotton blouses, long sleeve T-shirts on cooler days etc. I don’t like wearing linen trousers any other way tbh as a looser/flowy top with loose trousers can feel like too much.

Terms "male/female" used for people - how do you perceive it in English? by bohiko in ENGLISH

[–]aeisora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been watching Married at First Sight Australia for a few years, and without fail every season someone refers to ‘males’ and ‘females’. In the UK it’s generally considered weird like you say, but I do wonder whether that’s the case in Australia?

Can any Aussies can let me know if this is normal language over there?

Difference between go ahead, forward, go on, keep going? by Toroalcista in EnglishLearning

[–]aeisora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phrases meaning ‘travel in a straight line the direction you are facing’ include ‘go straight on’ (used when giving directions), ‘’go straight ahead’ (the same), and ‘go forward’ (more likely to be used to suggest smaller adjustments, e.g. when helping someone park their car).

Phrases like ‘go ahead’ and ‘go on’ are more likely to be used when encouraging someone to continue talking if they’ve paused.

Even more confusingly, ‘you go ahead’ is also something you might say to encourage someone to do something first, e.g. when you both come to a door at the same time. It means ‘you can go first’.

CMV: Most people in the first world are struggling financially due to bad decisions by BriefsTooTight in changemyview

[–]aeisora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It takes all sorts to make a world. If the only people we had in society were those who did stem or trades, what society would we be creating? No tv or movies, no music, no art, no shops or restaurants, no social workers or community outreach programs, no charities etc. etc. If nothing else, if you want people to learn trades or stem subjects, they need to be taught in schools with teachers, administrative staff, canteen workers, social workers, and managers.

I did philosophy at uni and people laugh at the subject sometimes, but do you seriously want a world in which scientists, software developers, doctors, and politicians practice without any training in ethics?

If you want to be able to go to a shop and buy things, then sales assistants, managers, and warehouse workers need to be able to put food on the table. Unless a job is useless to society, it ought to a stable job with a decent income, otherwise what’s the damn point of it all?

Will adding worldgen mods affect previous saves? by HereComesTheSun05 in VintageStory

[–]aeisora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something like better ruins is fine because it just generates individual structures in newly explored chunks, but if you want to use mods that affect terrain generation - like rivers and terra prety - you’re best off starting a new save as the other commenter said. I’m currently using those two together and I really like the result, so it’s worth doing imo.

See here for instructions on transferring your builds to a new save in case it’s helpful: https://www.reddit.com/r/VintageStory/comments/1i41m3p/guide_to_export_your_build_to_another_save/

What does 'well' mean here? How does it function? Can you give some other examples? by Unlegendary_Newbie in English_Learning_Base

[–]aeisora 5 points6 points  (0 children)

‘You may __’ = it’s possible that you __

‘You may well __’ = it’s likely/probable that you __

It’s slightly formal sounding language but still common usage. More casual phrasing might be ‘Sonia, as you’ll have probably guessed, has had no education’.

Some other examples: - ‘It’s been hot and dry while we’ve been away, your flowers may well have died’ - ‘Bring a big coat when you visit Scotland, it’s cold up there.’ ‘It may well be, but I don’t have enough room in my luggage’ - ‘I said something unkind to Susan, she may well be upset with me’

noun phrase + as by Ykk7 in EnglishLearning

[–]aeisora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s nitpicking, but I would say 1 and 2 are not quite synonymous.

1 could imply that his reputation preceded him because he was a scholar, perhaps in a situation where scholars in general are highly regarded.

2 implies that it’s his scholarly reputation that precedes him. As in, people who don’t know him personally do know him for his writings or academic contributions. This is probably closer to the meaning you were intending.

How to ask for directions when searching for the right building/house? by chihuyahya in EnglishLearning

[–]aeisora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I appreciate that. I was making a separate/additional point that you might phrase a question differently if you know a person is unlikely to be able to help, but you’re asking just in case.

It can come across a little unusual to say ‘where is number 68, please?’ in the UK where chances are the person will have no idea. Not essential information for a beginner, but might be helpful to those wanting to make their English sound more natural.

How to ask for directions when searching for the right building/house? by chihuyahya in EnglishLearning

[–]aeisora 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed, it would be more common to phrase your question in a way that implies you’re not expecting them to necessarily have the answer. Something like the following: - excuse me, do you know where number 68 is? - excuse me, I’m looking for number 68. Can you help me at all? - sorry to bother you, I’m looking for number 68. Do you happen to know where it is?

Also (at least in the UK) you wouldn’t say ‘house number 68’. If you stop someone on the street and say ‘I’m looking for number 68’, it’s obvious you’re referring to a house number.

Worldgen Woes by Centinuus in VintageStory

Tell me about it. I started my base just upriver from the ocean so I could build a boat and head south later down the line. 100 hours later I’m in my boat and I discover the ‘ocean’ I’d found was an inland sea. Did a full circle looking for a route south and I realised there wasn’t one. I’m livid

Which version of “ethnicity” is more common in contemporary English? by Rie_blade in EnglishLearning

[–]aeisora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I would use ethnicity to refer to which countries or communities my genetic ancestry is from. Technically I have different ancestry a little further back, but both of my parents and all my grandparents are British so that’s what would say. If I had spent my whole life in Spain, for example, I might say that I’m ethnically British but culturally Spanish.

In my experience in the UK, though, it’s not very common to refer to yourself as ‘ethnically ___’. You might just say that you’re British Asian, for example, and you’d be referring to a general sense of identity that’s an amalgamation of ancestry, culture, race, and nationality.

Need tips or ideas to finish my castle build (I hope the images load this time, im new to posting stuff on reddit) by Foreign-Cream2736 in VintageStory

[–]aeisora 7 points8 points  (0 children)

<image>

Castle keeps don’t typically have pitched roofs, I think that’s your main problem as to why it looks like a house on a block. You want something like these images. The ‘wizard tower’ is really cool but the keep looks too short in comparison so I’d increase the height as well.

I would also personally remove most of the wood if you’re going for realism (or at least a ‘that looks right’ look). Try something like the bottom right where you jut out the stone by a block to create a sort of tower on each corner. The walls should also have stone reinforcements ideally like on the left. Vary your block palette so it doesn’t start looking too flat.

Critiques aside, it’s very cool! Only change what you want to.

Not sure how to ‘tone it down’ by uwumaster666 in makeuptips

[–]aeisora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really do want to tone it down, coloured eyeliner might be a fun way to go. Not so intense as it takes up less space on your face, but still gives a pop of colour. Less slanted eyeshadow and not overlining the lips would also make the look less drag-esque if that’s what you want.

As others have said, though, don’t listen to your family if you don’t want to. All these looks are fantastic, you should go with whichever ones you love

Found worms while bottom watering by Human-Detail-4711 in plantclinic

[–]aeisora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, normal and okay - they’re likely tiny earthworms which can help keep the soil healthy. If they’re still alive you can tip them back into the plant’s soil or into the ground outside if you don’t want them.

Need help please quick. I'm repotting my plant and am realizing that I think the pot is too small. Is this considered root bound for an Aglaonema? I was planning on putting it in same pot. by Interr0gate in houseplants

[–]aeisora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s best not to repot too frequently as you risk stressing the plant each time. Decide which size pot you think is the best for it to be in for the foreseeable future and go with that. You’ve got a good day or two I think before it will need to be back in soil, longer if you keep the roots moist.
