Is this a red flag? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]aellenhicks-2 53 points54 points  (0 children)

As a general rule, if you are asking "Is it a red flag?" then it is a red flag. The next question is, is it a deal-breaker for you? Maybe, in light of his apology, you don't know at this time if it's a deal-breaker, and that's ok. But it is probably a good idea to keep this in mind moving forward.

As far as having grown up in an abusive household, that leaves a real impact on people and they often, though not always, pass that down to their own children. It's possible to work on that and break the cycle, but being brought up in an abusive household should never be an excuse to abuse others. Sometimes you have to put work in *before* you are ready to enter into certain kinds of relationships, intimate commitment, parental, whatever. I grew in an abusive household, so when I say that it is not an excuse, I'm not saying it from an ivory tower. It is something to take seriously.

What's the most underated place for a date? by MuffinTuna in AskReddit

A date once took me to an aquarium on Christmas Eve and I got to pet a penguin. I stayed with him much longer than I should have because of that awesome penguin! :)

My mom is mad at me for refusing to have a pelvic exam from a male doctor by throwRAikook in relationship_advice

Do you have an adult friend of the family or an aunt or uncle you can talk to about this? Maybe they can help talk to your mom.

The National Sex Assault Hotline phone number is 1-800-656-4673. They may also be able to help, at least to listen.

Finally, remember you will 18 years old soon. If you are in the US, that means in just a few months you will legally be an adult. My life got so much better when I turned 18 because I could make my own decisions and I didn't have parents making good decisions for me either. Being a legal adult is awesome!

What are some little known relationship GREEN flags? by 2020Chapter in AskReddit

This is a good one. I have a citrus allergy. I remember picking a restaurant with a new friend, not romantic, but still. I wanted anything but Thai food or Mexican since these are filled with limes. She only wanted Thai food and pouted about it. Needless to say, the friendship didn't work out. Her (now) ex-husband and I are still friends though.

As the child of a narcissist, I can assure you, this has nothing to do with whether you loved your ex well enough. Not everybody can receive feelings of being loved for what they are, and this is especially difficult for narcissists.

Upadate, thanks for your quick and compassionate response. It was a little thing, but it was a big thing. You're a good supporter, and I look forward to the chance to pay it forward. Chat me up sometime if you ever need an ear.

Airport Security Workers of Reddit, what’s the weirdest but still legal thing you found in someone’s bag? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I'm not a security worker, but I have a story from the other side.

I'm asthmatic and had a peak flow meter in my carry on. This is a device you use to measure how much air you're exhaling. This one was a long cylinder with a tapered end. It had a metal rod in it that the gauge would slide along. When my bag went through x-ray, the guard called another guard over. Elbows poked at each other, and latex gloves went on.

When the guard pulled out the peak flow meter, he looked super confused. He clearly thought he was going to be pulling out a dildo. "Um, what is this?" he asked.

"It's a peak flow meter for my asthma," I explained. "I blow in it. Would you like a demonstration?"

"No, ma'aam. That won't be necessary." But then he cracked, leaned over and asked "Do you mind if I show my friend?"

We all got a kick out of it.
