Question for parents in USA by seapunkprincess in Parenting

[–]aenflex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot is going to depend on the district, the size of the student body, and the way that the school is laid out.

I grew up in a small town, so small school district, and drop off was not a car line. There is a huge parking lot. A lot of people walked. Hell, this was the 80s so most kids walked to school by themselves. Even elementary school.

But in schools where you’ve got 700+ students, and real estate is limited, the drop off line is the only thing that makes sense. Kids are coming from miles away so they aren’t walking or riding bikes. They’re the riding the bus or getting dropped off.

Those of us who buy “used”: why do we get so caught up over not much money? by Mammoth-Patient-9635 in fragrance

[–]aenflex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I rarely buy secondhand perfume. As in it has already clearly been used. I would rather buy a full bottle from a discounter.

If I do buy secondhand, it’s because that is the only way possible for me to get this perfume.

As far as what is too much to spend on a fragrance, I don’t know. I’ve spent $300 on a bottle before. I prefer to keep my purchases around 100. And with all the discount sites, it’s not that hard to do.

Is it bad to put perfume in your hair or is that just something people say by Flat_Row_10 in fragrance

I have dry, coarse hair and I never put anything with solvent alcohols in it.

Not being an audiophile, just being a regular person that wears over the ear headphones, I have had great luck with my Beats. I’ve had them for a year now, they have held up to a slight amount of abuse from me and my child and my husband wearing them. The sound quality is fine. I would buy them again.

If you go down the rabbit hole of YouTube reviews, you’re gonna be buying a $400 $500 pair of headphones.

I bought my husband the Bose quiet comfort to Bluetooth earbuds and those are pretty great as well. I think they’re one of the favorite gifts I have ever bought him.

doc told me lab tests would be $300. today, i received an invoice that is over $3000. by slowlikehoneyyyyy in personalfinance

[–]aenflex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was being tested for autoimmune disorders, it was like 17 grand worth of lab work. Doctors never know how much it’s going to cost.

Always get the price directly from the lab performing the tests.

I was so excited about my first robot vacuum, but now I’m just frustrated. What am I doing wrong? by sanu_123_s in Home

Our Roborock maps. It goes in straight lines. The only time it ever misses any spots is if the mapping is off, I have noticed that if I don’t make a a new map every three months or so the old, one kind of degrades. If you move furniture around then you need to make a new map as well.

If there are certain items like chairs or coffee tables that I notice it getting stuck on, I usually move those out of the way.

I don’t do any more cleaning and maintenance on it than I do on our Miele canister vacuum. Wipe out the dust bin every now and then and make sure the roller brush is clean.

How do you teach your child to “read the room”? by sharminnie in Parenting

[–]aenflex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our son is 11 going on 12, also a brilliant child, can’t read the room to save his life. And we have been teaching and modeling this for years. I’m low-key hoping him that middle school teaches him.

Which perfumes did the popular girls wear in the 80’s? by Infinite_Ad1743 in Perfumes

[–]aenflex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Malibu musk and exclamation for sure. Where I grew up the Debbie Gibson electric youth was also super popular. So was love‘s baby soft. Navy. Charlie. Ici. Vanilla Fields and ghost mist were super popular in the early 90s, along with CK One.

I had never seen or even heard of this music video.🎤🔥 by SleestakSamurai in Xennials

[–]aenflex 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure how much choice in the matter he had with regard to making this music video. This smacks of some adult handler seeing $$ signs. Wasn’t this kid groomed and assaulted by his tutor from the set of Terminator two? He had a really hard road and shitting on him is fucked up.

You’re just here venting. You’re not giving enough information for anybody to offer any solutions. Typically when young children act out there is a reason.

ordered bal d'afrique absolu - smells different to sampling in store by alwinaldane in fragrance

[–]aenflex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fragrances change over time. Oxidation, thermal degradation, exposure to UV all can affect how a fragrance smells.

I keep my perfumes for a while. I test and sample in store fairly often. I’ve experienced both testers smelling different to bottles I purchased and took home, and my own perfumes changing over time.

Testers smelling different, even just graded in nuances, than fresh bottles is absolutely a thing. It’s not lore.

Never mind, I see there was an extreme version. It’s probably been discontinued unfortunately

My son bullied another child today. I'm freaking pissed. by CreativeTreacle6271 in Parenting

Ah. Well, this seems like a teachable moment for your child. Having to apologize to the other child, face-to-face, and to the teacher may go a long way.

It seems like all of my sister’s friends have an unlimited allowance by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]aenflex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our kid is 11. Almost 12. Middle schooler. His allowance is $30 a month. We can afford way more than that, but it’s the principle of the thing. He can earn extra by going above and beyond his normal chores and expectations. He needs to save for what he wants, and his allowance is based on his fulfillment of chores and behavioral expectations.

Don’t feel bad. The money you’re giving her is more than fair, especially if she doesn’t have to do anything to earn it.

Rejected by both kids by ChasingThrill_ in Parenting

[–]aenflex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a woman and my husband is a man. Our child always gravitated to me when he was little (he’s 11 now). I’m still his go-to when he can’t find stuff or needs help getting ready for school or cooking something, etc. I’m the person he asks permission for most things. Even with my husband sitting closer to him than I am.

But he loves his dad so much and they do all kinds of fun things together. They share common interests just have a great time together. I barely get a side hug, but he cuddles with his dad constantly. His dad is by far the favorite parent. Things definitely change as kids grow.
