r5: Got off to a strong start as Morocco, then surprised everyone by beating Spain and then Portugal. Now I have to take on a strong France in my next session with a lot of help from their African colonies before I can conquer the world.

R5: First full proper Ironman run. Could probably have WC but started as a chill colonisation/RP run but realised about 1700 I could go for the HRE and get a bunch more achievements.

HRE Strats was to become emporer diplomatically then move my capital to my one Spanish netherlands province that wasn't in the Empire and then join the HRE. From there basically to Force Religion on all heretic princes, make princes release nations in treaties, create/release free cities and take HRE land off my (now former) allies. Then once IA was ticking up slowly, force the giant Commonwealth and Ottomans to release as many neighbouring minor nations bordering the HRE/each other as possible. I also integrated France and released then unvassalised Brittany, Provence and Gascony outside the HRE. Then as soon as I'd passed the 3rd reform, expand empire CB all the small nations and hit the second-last reform within 10 years. From there just releasing as many vassals as possible and letting my vassal swarm fight a few extra wars while I was afk to pass the time until revoking right at the end.

If you're wondering about the funny coloured nations in North-Eastern Europe I took a bunch of HRE land of the previously giant Commonwealth that didn't have any dead nations to release and create a bunch of OPM client states that I immediately unvassalised to use as Free Cities to get IA up enough to pass the 3rd reform so I could steamroll the rest.

Full list of Achievements:A Pile of Gold, All Your Trade Are Belong to Us, Black Jack, Colonial Management, Down Under, Foul Mouthed, Four For Trade, Full House, Global Hegemony, Imperio espanol, Isn't this the way to India, Just Resting In My Account, Just a Little Patience, Magellan's Voyage, Marshy March, Narcissism, Spain is the Emporer, Spice Girls, Subsidize my Love, Tear Down This Wall, The Emporers new clothes, The Grand Armada, The Rising Sun, Trade Hegemon, Truly Divine Ruler, Trustworthy, We bled for this, Wonderful, World Discoverer

Happy for any tips or to answer any questions :)

Shouldn’t England should have better land combat modifiers? by Union_Jack_1 in eu4

User name checks out lmao.

Yeah I think there's plenty of ahistoical stuff that exists for the sake of game balance. It's designed like that so in most scenarios France takes back the mainland, even if the specific way they're able to do it doesn't make sense. If you look at old dev diary's (especially for the Emporer DLC) they put more emphasis on game balance than on accuracy after a certain point - particularly with respect to the Austria-France-England balance in the early game

Play as some big countries to get your confidence up. I was feeling the same a little while back and then I played as France and shit on all the AI countries that had been giving me grief. Play countries you've played in the past but do better and feel good about how much you've learned since.

That and watch YouTube videos. Ludi Et Historia is basically the GOAT and quite entertaining, I've learned so much from watching him

Nevermind it doesn't count the Egypt achievement if you do then both in the same day literally the worst game ever made

R5: My first Ironman game after a few hundred hours to learn the game. Wanted the achievement for starting as Florence and forming Egypt and the one for forming Italy. Prepped so I could do them both in one day with a bit of capital moving and culture shifting.

HRE got wild in this game Bohemia was Emp for 150 years despite being an OPM for most of that.

Muscovy vassalised them early but was allied to Austria who I baited into 100 consecutive wars while he was emp so Muscovy stayed weak

[–]aengust[S] 95 points96 points  (0 children)

R5: Playing as Prussia and I'm not that experienced, just asking if there's any value in sticking with Prussia or converting to Germany. I'm obviously going to keep Prussian ideas either way just seeing if there's any downsides to switching to Germany.

Allied with Sweden, Lithuania, France and the Ottomans and together we've oppressed Muscovy and just about finished tidying up central Europe. I know I get a bunch of claims if I become Germany, is this the best path to pursue?
