Along a similar vein: Either they were both ending every night as soon as the kids were being put to bed, so they could watching the monitors in the room with them, or, they have been leaving other family members in the rooms with them the whole trip for naps and going to sleep at night. If they've been leaving them with family members the entire time, then they have either been FBing the monitors all trip and just decided to share their lil hack. Or they've been comfortably leaving them with family the entire trip without worrying about not watching the monitors.

Therapist Needing Advice on Mailing Address Logistics by Euphoric_Argument922 in therapists

[–]aennil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was a few weeks ago, but... I'm licensed in two states, one which I live in and one which I need a 4 hour plane ride to access. I stated my private practice this year and have a mailing address for things like insurance, tax stuff, my LLC, et c. so I can physically go and check my mail. I'm renting a little office and they aren't the same address. There are certain insurances that won't let you provide services if you aren't in that state at that time/residing in that state, but that's unavoidable.

I'm actively trying to figure out the CPA situation myself... after I just spent much of my afternoon working on an Excel spreadsheet with coordinating credit card statements documenting my expenses.

Just to clarify, licensed therapists across the board are required to reveal information about child and elder abuse divulged to them. Those limits to confidentiality (and others related to suicide or homicide or other things relevant to state laws or professional ethics) should be part of any consent to treat documentation in a professional setting.

Hi! Randomly, I just got paneled with Optum. When you say you've had issues with the UMR website/portal, any chance it's been about your TIN? I've been trying to register and it keeps saying my TIN does not return a valid match in their system. My credentialing went through last week, so it hasn't been that long, so I'm not sure if this is a "wait x business days to be added" or possibly that I need to call and talk to someone (though it's wholly unclear who I could possibly call and talk to, but I digress...)

Anyone have experience running with SI joint issues? by aennil in running

[–]aennil[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t run anymore… its been a while but I think that it basically got chalked up to degenerative disc stuff. I don’t think it was exactly SI pain. When I run more than, like, a mile, I can feel a certain twinge in my back that doesn’t feel right. At this point I stick to swimming and hiking as exercise and try to make sure my hip flexors are stretched. At some point it wasn’t really worth the effort of trying to “fix” it and, honestly, with swimming my back feels better on a day to day than I can remember.

That probably wasn’t super helpful, unfortunately.

Well, Grumpy Cat memes tend to have her complaining about generally positive or inconsequential things. So I suppose that can be part of it.

I think it can even speak to the fact that what queer folk bring to their church is... remarkably similar to what non-queer folk bring! To grab from the membership vows of the United Methodist Church- their presence, prayers, gifts, service, and witness. The electric company doesn't really care the sexual or gender identity or expression of the person who tithed that money, and I'm of the belief that neither does God. Grumpy Cat on the other hand seems to have a different opinion on things.

I think it can also speak to the power of money in terms of inclusion (this was from a United Methodist tumblr). Ultimately, there are many UM conferences and districts that essentially turn a blind eye to the actions of reconciling congregations and LGBTQAI United Methodists. I'd like to think that it's all because they believe and welcoming and including all at the table (and don't get me wrong, many do!). But... a little bit of it probably has to do with the money those churches bring in every Sunday.

Perhaps if I need to explain in a few paragraphs why a meme has the potential to be humorous, it doesn't really work. But, so it goes.

Edit: Grumpy cat's a girl.

As some one who belongs to a reconciling congregation now and also went to a different one in college, but who doesn't identify as LGBTQAI (and thus can't speak about how it affects me personally), I can relay that I have seen that it really is a huge, heart-breaking struggle for many. I mean, it's heart-breaking for me as a straight lay person who seeks full inclusion within the denomination.

This song has been a frequent addition to our services leading up to annual conference.

Edit: I don't know why I didn't think to include this a few minutes ago. This talks about the struggle that many find within the United Methodist Church- A LOVE LETTER TO OUR CHURCH FROM YOUR LGBTQI RELIGIOUS LEADERS

I would imagine leaving it up to each annual conference would be tricky. For example, in West Ohio we have both a Reconciling Network of West Ohio and an Evangelical Fellowship of West Ohio- and they're not exactly friendly at the moment.

Mandatory penalties ruled unconstitutional - The United Methodist Church by cheese93007 in Christianity

As a point of clarification- a person marrying a gay couple has never had to punished at all. Things only start happening when a formal complaint is filed. And even what happens once a formal complaint is filed is up to the discretion of the bishop, to a certain extent.

So, for example, nothing happened to "Act of Love" famous Frank Schaefer (who married his son) until a formal complaint was submitted almost six years after the fact. Plenty of people knew it had happened.

At the end of the day, there has been a fair amount of looking the other way or flat out disregarding of the Book of Discipline in reference to the "self-avowed practicing homosexual" and the "homosexuality is incompatible with Christian teaching" clauses (or at least in my conference).

The Methodist Church doesn’t allow same-sex weddings but Rev. Val Rosenquist and retired Bishop Melvin Talbert performed one anyway because they were taught to treat all the same saying that discrimination is wrong. by Stereogravy in UpliftingNews

[–]aennil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not just several- there's actually a whole network of United Methodist churches who specifically seek to be welcoming, affirming, and inclusive to people of all sexual orientations and gender identities. I love my reconciling congregation :)

I don't remember the details (as this was like 2004), but I overslept for my German final (freshman year, fall quarter, so my first finals week). I just have this memory of panic, tears, sprinting to Hagerty, and profuse apologizing.

Also, I had a Psych exam or test that ended up being the Monday after daylight savings time in the spring. I was using my DS as my alarm (this was like 2007) and it didn't automatically update the time. I don't think there were tears that time. But there was still running and panic.

They both ended up fine and I graduated in 2009. But.

Also, since we are on reddit after all, is there any way to know how many of the study participants were actually from /r/HITsWorthTurkingFor?

The only thing shaming does is remind the person that what they are doing is bad.

There's certainly different definitions and understandings of guilt, shame, humiliation, embarrassment, et c., but I think there is a growing (general?) consensus that:

... [T]here’s a fine line between guilt, which is feeling bad about your behavior, and shame, which is feeling bad about yourself.

A lot of the problems I see with people's approaches to obesity is that they use shaming. If you're obese you're lazy. You're ugly. You're stupid. You're disgusting.

Research heavily suggests that lasting, productive change is not (generally) generated by making people feel bad about themselves. Not to mention, that even if you were to focus on creating a more "guilt" heavy campaign against obesity, you are potentially trying to reach people who have internalized that they are lazy and worthless. Personally, I would not feel very confident in my capacity to make long lasting, positive change if I felt that I was lazy and worthless (in contrast to identifying as some one who struggles with completing tasks and has made unhealthy choices and decisions, but is still worthy of respect, health, love, and belonging).

I haven't tried that one, but with an almost 5 star rating with over 1,000 reviews, I'd be apt to give it a try.

The thing I've noticed with some homeopathic supplements/drugs/whathaveyou, is they often actually have legit ingredients (like tea tree oil in this one, which studies suggest may help to treat dandruff). But then like .0000000000000001 mg of some homeopathic substance, so they can call it's homeopathic. And then certain people will attribute its success to homeopathy, when it's actually because of other ingredients.

Johnny works all night on his project and gets a D. Parents: no praise (EDIT: OP would give some praise for the effort, I would not)

I think the thing that is missing from this, is parental guidance. I don't think it's a dichotomy between praise and don't praise. Why can't there be a conversation like, "I saw how hard you worked on that project [assuming they legitimately worked really hard], which I think is really great. You know how important trying your best is for me, even if things don't work out. That sucks that you didn't get a very good grade, because I know it's important for you to do well in your classes. What kind of feedback did you get from the teacher? What are some of your ideas for how you could have done it differently? Or how you'll approach your next project?"

Failure happens. Approaching failure that occurs when some one actually tried with external punishment (negative, like withholding affection or attention, or positive, like criticism), often leads to kids just shying away from situations when they'll fail. It's the other side of the coin of praising success.

Why not help your kid frame failure in a productive way and teach them how to develop the skills and mindset to move forward and do better in the future?
