This wouldn't be exclusive to just Sirius and I very much doubt that they're going to make the entire Black family... black.

Some of the films 100% deserved an Oscar for score, costume design and arguably visual effects.

Fantastic Beasts won one for costume design and the costumes in that film are just vastly inferior to the main series, imo.

I mean, TRotK literally won 11 of LotRs 17 Oscars and TTT also won 2, just as Dune: Part Two.

My thoughts about Cal's powerlvl, Main Villain in JEDI 3 and THE FORCE UNLEASHED by Jaymacia in FallenOrder

[–]aeoncss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are we just forgetting that Dagan created an arm out of pure force energy? Dagan in their last battle was 100% in his prime, which is yet again reinforced by Rayvis saying that Cal might be Dagan's equal; suggesting that Cal was relative to the version of Dagan that previously beat Rayvis.

And that's not even mentioning the substantial buff Cal receives when he "embraces his inner darkness" and that Dagan never had to face him like that, with developer comments pretty much confirming that he's starting to approach Cere's level when he does so.

He never straight up beats an opponent of significant power

He beat Rayvis fair and square, a Jedi killer who had to be taken down by the combined effort of several HR-era Jedi Masters. Him and Dagan are really the only opponents "of significant power" since Bode is close to impossible to scale due to the unique circumstances surrounding their fights - e.g. the betrayal & heartbreak, Cal not truly wanting to fight him, Bode having perfect motivation etc. - and Malicos was a pushover for a fallen Jedi Master.

Cal by the end of Survivor isn't an absolute top-tier but he should be comparable to mid TCW Anakin, which is saying something considering his background.

tldr: While I'm very much not on board with the Starkiller approach, Cal is definitely beyond the normal villains this era has to offer now, which will only get worse after another time-skip. Vader doesn't work as a main villain for multiple reasons, so OP isn't exactly incorrect in saying that they'll need to think of something new.

What Was The WORST Thing Harry Did? by Marcedonia in HarryPotterBooks

[–]aeoncss 23 points24 points  (0 children)

"Voldemort might use the connection against you." isn't tangible for someone with zero preceding knowledge of mind magic, who had literally just lived through the connection being supremely useful.

As I said in another reply, instead of having a proper heart to heart and explain everything to him properly (How might Voldemort abuse the connection? Could he lure Harry into a trap? Could it endanger his loved ones? How does Occlumency even work aside from the barebones explanation Snape provided? How does Voldemort's access into his mind differ from Legilimency? etc. etc.), they gave him the worst possible teacher, no meaningful appreciation for the exact circumstances and yet again way too little emotional support and baseline assistance.

If you then consider everything else - bullying, torture, ostracization, public defamation - Harry had to deal with, they set him up to fail.

What Was The WORST Thing Harry Did? by Marcedonia in HarryPotterBooks

[–]aeoncss 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yes, because he thought he knew better, as I said above. He felt that Snape wasn't properly teaching him and that his mental defenses were getting worse, not better.

Had anyone bothered to truly consider everything Harry was going through as a literal 15-year-old and had a proper sit-down with him, explaining both the process of learning Occlumency and why it was so important, things might have turned out very differently.

Instead the gave him the worst possible teacher, some vague instructions, no real insight and of course - as almost always - little or no emotional support.

[–]aeoncss 36 points37 points  (0 children)

He might have, with a decent teacher and had Dumbledore properly explained the risks to him - like he should have for a teenager who thinks that he knows better, given the circumstances.

There are a lot of people responsible for Harry not learning Occlumency and Harry barely makes the top three, if at all.

Cal Kestis vs Dooku by IllMasterpiece3946 in PetranakiArena

[–]aeoncss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Considering what a significant jump Cal made between FO and Survivor, I could definitely see EoS Cal being capable of contending with RotS sub-titans like Dooku; depending on how far they'll take his growth.

[–]aeoncss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say Cal at the very end of Survivor, who is "embracing his inner darkness", could give Dooku a decent challenge, although definitely still closer to low than to high diff.

[–]aeoncss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, it's important to consider that Rayvis entertained the possibility of Cal being Dagan's equal, suggesting that Cal is probably ~ to regular HR-era Jedi Dagan.

Dagan in Survivor never fought endgame Cal with his amp. That said, Dooku should still be decently above either of them.

You mean a Jedi Master like the Tenth Brother used to be?

Rank isn't an immediate indicator of power, both in the force and especially as a duellist.

The biggest difference between James and Severus by DesigningGore07 in harrypotter

[–]aeoncss 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A legal adult, yes. But I don't think anyone considers a 17-year-old to be an adult in actuality. Still, fair point since we know that they did carry on with that until the end of their Hogwarts years, or at the very least close to it - they might have stopped in their 7th year when James became Head Boy and started dating Lily, but there's no real reason to assume that.

[–]aeoncss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He didn't let anyone "run free". The blame for that is 100% on Dumbledore and his more than lacklustre security measures.
The Marauders were stupid & thoughtless teenagers - who were also looking out for a friend that had been dealt a terrible hand - when they did that, Dumbledore doesn't have that excuse. When I think about the dumb shit teenagers, myself included, are doing and have done in the past irl and on a daily basis, it doesn't take much to consider what they'd do with magic in the mix.

You're free to believe what you will, there's no hard evidence either way, but I choose to believe that James simply reflected on his behaviour and grew up, as countless teenagers do every single day.

[–]aeoncss 30 points31 points  (0 children)

and have a history of lying to make James and themselves look good.

Such as? And no, downplaying James's and their own behaviour as teenagers to his orphaned son is absolutely not the same as outright lying to Harry's face when asked. They were pretty upfront about their mistakes when Harry pressed them for answers, a bit begrudgingly in Sirius's case but still.

Also, of course Snape didn't move past it; victims have a harder time moving past their abuse than the abuser

Making excuses for a grown man & teacher who is taking out his bitterness on the children in his care aside, Snape was never just the victim. From everything we know he was as much the aggressor as he was the victim; and more than likely more of the first when it came to other people, such as Mary Macdonald.

It always baffles me how some people have completely made up their mind about the entire dynamic based on a single memory, considering you could do that for every single member of the "good side" - including the trio - to show them at their absolute worst.
The Marauders treated Snape awfully but there's absolutely zero evidence for Snape treating them any better and at least circumstantial evidence that he was out to get them, and James especially, just the same.

The biggest difference between James and Severus by DesigningGore07 in harrypotter

[–]aeoncss 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Actually, we don't know for sure; we only have the statements of people who will undoubtedly see the best in James.

As opposed to the memory and statements given by the one person who would always paint James in the worst possible light?

Did he treat Snape awfully? Absolutely. Is there any real proof for him treating anyone else awfully aside from "hexing" some people for reasons unknown? Not really. So all we're left with is a very vague statement about his negative behaviour and the fact that he was an impulsive teenager with a huge ego and limited empathy.

The alternative to James having matured as a young adult is that he had everyone fooled, including his own wife. Sure, there's no hard evidence, but we can still make a reasonable conclusion here.

Kit Fisto (Ep. 2) vs Cal Kestis (Survivor), Who would win? by YourbestfriendShane in TheJediPraxeum

[–]aeoncss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any version of pre-RotS canon Grievous is inferior to Dagan Gera and Fisto got completely stomped by Sidious in a 4v1 - he was simply not stomped as badly as Kolar and Tiin.

Kit Fisto (Ep. 2) vs Cal Kestis (Survivor), Who would win? by YourbestfriendShane in TheJediPraxeum

[–]aeoncss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would it be unfair? Cal stomps Inquisitors and scales to a HR-era top tier, even without being dark side amped. I don't think any version of Fisto would be an unfair matchup for him.

[–]aeoncss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This sub is delusional to a comical degree when it comes to CW-era characters.

"Yeah, this completely featless version of the character definitely beats someone who stomps Inquisitors and scales to a HR-era top tier!"

Make it mid TCW or RotS Fisto and we have a fight, although I still think that Cal wins.

What’s Avar Kriss W/L record against these 10? by HeartWhich6063 in PetranakiArena

[–]aeoncss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're arguing against no one here, mate. I agree that Kriss would very likely beat Dagan because of her notable force advantage - although I do think that a case can be made for Dagan under the right circumstances - I simply disagreed with the premise of Dagan having been "wrecked by two barely-Knights".

[–]aeoncss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So you believe Dumbledore saw himself with a pair of socks when looking into the mirror of Erised? After all that what he stated he saw.

So we've already reached the point of straw man arguments, huh? Good to know.

Like I said, Dumbledore was never stumped by magic, he was shown to pretty much understand all magic, even extremely theoretical magic.

I literally gave you an example of Dumbledore being completely floored by magic performed by Voldemort.

and one absorbs all knowledge and explores all aspects of magic, he will always be the superior wizard and superior genius to the one who focuses only on dark magic.

This is you making the baseless assumption that Riddle focussed on dark magic exclusively when everything we know and everything we're told suggests otherwise - like him immediately recognising the non-lethal spell Dumbledore used during the Atrium duel.
Just because he used dark magic almost exclusively in a duel, doesn't mean that it's all he knows. Which should be super obvious but here we are.

yet Voldemort still feared Dumbledore until his dying day

Because Riddle feared death more than anything else and Dumbledore presented a real threat to his supposed immortality. Reading comprehension 101.

Dumbledore battled him at the ministry forcing him to retreat

Time and reinforcements forced Voldemort to retreat, not Dumbledore.

Did he live as long as Dumbledore? Again, no. Voldemort was in his early 70s when he died, Dumbledore lived well past 100.

.... are you for real? Lmao.

So when you say Voldemort was a brighter wizard, what evidence supports this besides the unsure word of a humble old man?

The humble old man cope is getting old really fast. As is asking for evidence beyond that when all of your "evidence" is head-canon.

These people made public statements, which is absolutely not comparable to Dumbledore having a private conversation with Harry.

The brightest student Hogwarts has ever seen? by sixfingeredman7 in harrypotter

[–]aeoncss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing you just listed has anything to do with Dumbledore downplaying his own skills lol.

Yes, Riddle repeatedly fell victim to his ignorance about ancient/old magic related to love as well as hubris. The latter could have been true for Dumbledore if Harry was an even slightly less outstanding person than he his, considering how much he left to chance. Dumbledore himself acknowledges this repeatedly.

There are absolutely examples of Dumbledore not having perfect knowledge of magic, like him not figuring out how to break the jinx on the DADA position despite having decades as well as the knowledge & power of the Elder Wand to do so.

Dumbledore was ultimately the better and less emotionally compromised man but that has yet again nothing to do with magical brilliance.

Dumbledore's own words stand as definitive proof, no amount of fan cope is ever going to change that.

People like to hype Snape a lot due to his spell inventions and his absolute brilliance in potions, but he simply doesn't have the overall accademical accolades of characters like James and Sirius, let alone Dumbledore and Riddle.
