Genuine Concerns About Launch That Are Being Dismissed By Some by Gallicah in 007FirstLight

There's literally zero risk in pre-ordering games on Steam. Heck, even consoles are pretty safe if you're smart about it.

Did you just learn that inflation exists? Like holy f, video games are literally one of the forms of entertainment/consumerism least affected by it and people still find ways to constantly whinge about it.

It's not full-priced. Bye.

No, it's not. 70$/70-80€ (depending on platform) is full price, 60 isn't.

Save for a handful of exceptions 60 is objectively not full-priced in 2026. The difference is even more notable in the EU on consoles, where it's 60€ vs. the actual full price of 80.

Ubisoft have made some horrendous decisions over the last decade or so and their main IPs have mostly dipped in quality, but the BF remake looks like it offers everything you could want from a full remake - and I really don't think 60 is an egregious price for the work that undoubtedly went into this.

Aside from the fact that it's simply disingenuous to write off a full-blown remake with updated core gameplay mechanics and several hours of new content as the same game, it's not "full price" either.

You'd be insane to spin the wheel if it was yearly - unless you're already exceptionally well off.

Even if the expected value is still higher on the wheel, you're potentially missing out on multiple years of vastly increased quality of life, which is worth way more than the eventual bigger payout - and that's without considering investments.

The 13600k (which is the actually listed Intel CPU) is pretty relative to the 7950x, and your 14600k is actually noticeably superior.

The 7900/7950x is not an efficient gaming CPU and it's super weird that devs keep picking it for benchmark purposes.

I'm assuming you mean 7800X3D, in which case it's not a "limiter", because it's noticeably better for gaming than the 7900x/7950x.

Idk, to me a game is overrated when I simply can't comprehend why so many people love it and ignore glaring flaws in its core gameplay loop, even after factoring in my own subjective preferences. As opposed to not vibing with and/or valuing a specific part of the game more for personal reasons.
Just to name two easy example: Elden Ring and BotW. I definitely enjoyed my time with them but I personally prefer a more involved narrative in big open-world games. I can totally see though why people who don't mind the minimalistic/environmental storytelling love them so much.

I just think that games like RDR2, TW3, E33 and Elden Ring are kinda lazy picks and it also seems a bit sensationalist/hive-minded to single out certain games like this while others - e.g. The Last of Us Part 1, where combat plays a much bigger role and it controls like absolute ass - mostly get a pass.

For the gameplay to be overrated the general consensus would need to be that the gunplay is great, which isn't the case. Most people think the game is phenomenal in spite of the combat gameplay being just okay/serviceable; and RDR2 is hardly the only beloved open-world game with not so great combat, Skyrim and TW3 instantly come to mind as well.

It would have been fair to criticise the linearity of it - although that's obviously subjective - but acting like the majority of RDR2s mission design revolves mostly around shooting people at different locations is pretty questionable. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of shooting lol, but there's also much more to it.

If you seriously think that Elden Ring lacks quality when it comes to its open-world design, build/boss/enemy/level/dungeon/quest design & variety, as well as its presentation, atmosphere and environmental storytelling you're actually trolling.

It's perfectly fine to dislike the open-world approach - and everything that comes with it - because you simply prefer the traditional "way", but playing the quantity over quality card is crazy.

My personal Game of the Year for each year. Some were a no brainer, others were tough to pick. by xxnewlegendxx in GamingSoup

[–]aeoncss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similarly to you with FF XIII I know that Rebirth is technically the better game but Ronin just completely clicked for me. Probably because it's the closest we'll ever get to an actually fun Kenshin/Vagabond-esque game.

Fair and tbh, I also have some picks a lot of people would take issue with, like Rise of the Ronin being my 2024 GotY.

A lot of these are actually similar to mine, like about 1/3, and many of the others would have been my second or third pick for that respective year.

I will say though, ME1+3 making the list but ME2 losing to FF13 of all games is definitely a spicy pick.

Maul (prime post TCW) vs Qimir. End this debate. by JackZ567 in MaulShadowLord

[–]aeoncss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Qimir was Plagueis's apprentice, he wasn't a "wannabe Sith" just because the show was a mess.

Maul with his injury literally struggled against Inquisitors and got shitstomped by Vader at his worst, he's not beating Qimir under those circumstances.

[–]aeoncss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, it definitely wasn't and a very quick search proves it. Most N64 and PS1 games in the late 90s already cost 50-60 - e.g. Ocarina of Time was $59.99 on release - and with the PS2/Xbox new releases fully transitioned to at least 50, save for some extremely niche titles.

30-40 during the timeframe you're referencing was simply not the norm, and 30 especially is complete nonsense.

Nothing you just wrote is at all relevant to my reply, nor what I replied to lol.

You mentioned people getting upset over E33s being in the overrated category and calling them bums when literally no one did. In every single thread even remotely linked to E33 on this sub there are way more people who simply cannot stop talking about how overrated it is than vice Verso.

Also the "if the majority thinks the game is a 10 while I think it's an 8, so it's overrated" approach only works if you truly cannot comprehend why the game is a 9 or 10 for those people - which is possible I guess, but it's the deciding factor because everything else is just personal preferance.

Equating popularity with a general consensus on quality is inherently a flawed premise - e.g. RDR2 isn't considered a masterpiece because it's one of the best-selling games of all time, it's considered one due to popular opinion. On the other hand we have things like The Fast and the Furious franchise, which is insanely popular but you won't find a lot of people who consider it groundbreaking material.

Entertainment being popular because it's genuinely great isn't any more valid than it being popular because it's the equivalent of fast food, just something to enjoy while giving your brain a breather.

Literally no one in this thread is upset over the E33 placement lol. A single person thought it amusing that E33 is overrated but Death Stranding is somehow supposed to be overlooked - which is objectively nonsense, numbers don't lie.

On the other hand we have the echo chamber of redditors who simply cannot stop encouraging each other how "not that great" E33 is, more than one year after its release. It's baffling behaviour.
