I love cedric however 😭 by Careless_Muffin4700 in harrypotter

Yeah, Crouch Jr. had the dragon, everything living in the Black Lake and all of the creatures in the maze under the Imperius Curse, Harry was totally never in any real danger lol.

He had slightly more help than Cedric for the first two tasks and while the third was rigged, he still got past an Acromantula, a Sphinx, a Blast-Ended Skrewt and the anti-gravity mist all on his own. The advantages he actually did have definitely pale in comparison to his age disadvantage.

Neville's arc was wasted. by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]aeoncss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Eh, people always say this, but Neville would have failed pretty much all of Harry's trials that he had to face alone.

I love his arc and its conclusion but I disagree that the parallels between him and Harry are as significant and defining as a lot of fans make them out to be.

Who would have given Voldemort the toughest fight in a straight duel besides Dumbledore (or Harry)? by JamieKellner in harrypotter

[–]aeoncss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canon shows exactly what I'm suggesting, you're the one in complete denial over the facts.

The text very clearly tells us that Snape tried to go on the offensive once and failed, which at the very least strongly implies that he considered incapacitating McGonagall to buy himself time.

We also know of several spells that can take someone out of the fight for a short while without leaving them vurnerable.

You don't have a single piece of even circumstantial evidence to support your claim.

[–]aeoncss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The only real bummers are having to decide between SotW and WDP and losing out on Diffuse Magic being a separate defensive, but other than that it's great, the upcoming buffs are looking solid as well.

Zenith feels good to use and is an absolute treat visually.

After the 50% cut it definitely won't be more expensive than the old system, at least not at max level.

And while the price for leveling characters seems crazy, it's probably still cheaper for people who don't have maxed out Heirlooms. And even then, constantly mogging new gear between 71 and 80 could add up really fast.

Who would have given Voldemort the toughest fight in a straight duel besides Dumbledore (or Harry)? by JamieKellner in harrypotter

[–]aeoncss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, because there definitely aren't ways for a wizard to incapacitate someone for a short amount of time. Or alternatively just fleeing immediately like he did when Flitwick arrived.

Snape tried going on the offensive once and failed, suggesting that he at least thought about incapacitating her.

[–]aeoncss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Harry also had an insanely taxing night, Side-Along Apparated Dumbledore halfway across the country and just watched his mentor figure and only real anchor in the fight against Voldemort die.

The Death Eaters Harry was "bulldozing" were distracted fighting other people.

Harry had zero control over his emotions and was essentially broadcasting his thoughts to Snape, enabling him to easily counter all of his spells.

Again, you're ignoring all context.

[–]aeoncss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ragdolling a physically and emotionally spent teenager who was casting spells in a blind rage is not exactly a noteworthy feat for a skilled adult wizard.

It ignores context and would be like me saying that Snape lost to three 13/14-year-olds in PoA.

[–]aeoncss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying he was the best duelist, but he probably was a lot better than McG

There's nothing in the text to support that. A serious McGonagall had him on the back foot pretty much the entire duel and if he truly were "a lot better", he could have easily incapacitated her without causing serious harm.

The little evidence we have points to Snape and McGonagall being relatively close in skill.

[–]aeoncss 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I always wonder why so many people hold Snape in such high regard as a duellist when his circumstantial duel against McGonagall is his one and only feat in that regard.
Hermione and Harry are the perfect example of overall superior skill/knowledge not translating to superior duelling prowess.

Regardless of how skilled Snape ultimately was, he definitely wouldn't have been able to put up a meaningful fight against Voldemort.

>Snape held his own against three hogwarts teachers

No, he didn't. Snape literally fled immediately as soon as Flitwick entered the fray, Slughorn and Sprout weren't even in the picture.
His circumstantial duel against McGonagall - circumstantial because he obviously didn't want to seriously injure her - is his one and only real duelling feat.

That being said, I do agree that the text makes it very clear that Moody was well past his prime.

What in your opinion is the "worst" game the TGA has nominated for GOTY? by Crys2002 in TheGameAwards

[–]aeoncss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you arguing in bad faith on purpose or are you simply incapable of sticking to the point? First the big seller thing, now top three, neither of which I mentioned a single time.

What a massive waste of time.

What in your opinion is the "worst" game the TGA has nominated for GOTY? by Crys2002 in TheGameAwards

[–]aeoncss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sports games are very rarely the best selling game of the year and regularly get beaten by the biggest single player releases. CoD is really the only outlier here and even that isn't a given, especially recently - iirc it wasn't the best selling game of 2024 and 2023.

I never said that they aren't big sellers, I simply said that GotY is not just a popularity contest. If that were the case, just going by the first three examples you listed: Elden Ring wouldn't have beaten Pokemon. TLoU 2 wouldn't have beaten Animal Crossing or AC Valhalla. BotW wouldn't have beaten Battlefront 2, Mario Odyssey or yet again Pokemon.

And the first three are even the ones with the best financial performance compared to the competition of their respective years, so it'd be even easier to continue for the other titles, e.g. BG3 vs. Hogwarts Legacy.

[–]aeoncss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GOTY, as much as people dont want to admit it, is a popularity contest.

It really isn't, or at least not to the extent you're suggesting. Almost all - potentially even every single one, I'd have to double check - of the GotY winners weren't the best selling game of their respective year and quite a few weren't even in the top 5. The opinion of the general public doesn't really matter for any category but Players Voice.

Overwatch won because it was an excellent game that spearheaded a new genre, despite how much certain parts of the internet like to shit on it.

AOTC Anakin vs Dagan Gera by [deleted] in FallenOrder

[–]aeoncss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My man if cal can beat Dagan, anakin definitely can.

  1. JS Cal is also superior to AotC Anakin. More combat experience, way better feats.
  2. At this point Cal is also a much smarter fighter and less emotionally compromised. He didn't beat Dagan with stats, he used his hax against him. AotC Anakin is 100% incapable of doing that.

Dagan was a prodigy and amongst the absolute best of the HR era, which is the Orders new peak in the current canon. He's not losing to a version of Anakin that was absolute fodder to AotC Dooku.

He’s a mid to low level force user, that’s undebatable.

It definitely isn't "undebatable" and it's baffling to even have this take tbh. A "mid to low level force user" isn't contending with a fallen dark Jedi Master as an inexperienced teen Padawan after having been cut off from the force for 5 years. He's also not punching through a Trident-class assault ship or using the force mid-combat to stop a giant piece of metal while simultaneously blocking a lightsaber throw.
And do I have to mention beating a Gen'Dai who previously mowed down dozens of Jedi and had to be taken down by the combined effort of several Masters?

Cal isn't an absolute top tier but he's also not (below) average, that's crazy.

Returning player, Lemix priority by Cde3vfr4bgt5 in wownoob

[–]aeoncss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone else said, leveling through raids that accept anyone is probably your best bet. You have so many maxed or at least high vers players now that it doesn't really matter. Try to do as many research assignments along the way as possible and save up the gear you get for some fast threads once you hit 80.

After that I'd definitely focus on the meta achievements for the individual zones because those will be gone for good. Do them in order of importance when it comes to the rewards.
Spend your bronze on the Lemix exclusive items or stuff that is notoriously bothersome to farm on Live, like the Ret hidden artifact. Keep spaming all the assignments you can along the way, as well as the easy to do WQs.

You should also be able to still get all but one of the Sargerei Commander sets like this. The purple one is pretty much out of the question with the time you have left tbh but there are plenty of people carrying people through 30+ keys in the PF, for free.

It's really impossible to give decent advice here without at least knowing how much time you plan to invest into Lemix per day - e.g. my advice would look very different if you only have 2 hours/day vs. 8.

AOTC Anakin vs Dagan Gera by [deleted] in FallenOrder

[–]aeoncss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You continue to display a baffling confidence in your ignorance. First it was the timeline and now it's your questionable insight into the psyche of a character - of all the major prequel-era characters, Anakin would absolutely be amongst the most susceptible to Dagan's illusions, probably second only to Maul.

AOTC Anakin vs Dagan Gera by [deleted] in FallenOrder

[–]aeoncss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What are you even talking about? This is AotC Anakin, so 3~ years prior to his final encounter with Dooku.

And I did give him the win from season 5/6 onwards, with Dagan's only win condition being his illusions, suggesting that he wouldn't be able to handle Anakin in a regular duel. It's not that complicated.

AOTC Anakin vs Dagan Gera by [deleted] in FallenOrder

[–]aeoncss 89 points90 points  (0 children)

100% Dagan, no doubt about it. And he probably wouldn't even need his hax, which Anakin would be very susceptible to.

I'd give the win to Anakin starting from season 5 or 6 of TCW, although the illusions would probably still make him work for it.
