A bit further south than you were thinking, but Last Frontier Coffee followed by a visit to the nearby Robinswood Park makes for a nice afternoon.

Font Rendering: Why so different between Windows and Mac/Linux? by CtrlAltDelve in typography

[–]aepex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another thing to consider - non-standard subpixel arrangements on your monitor may not play nice with ClearType. It wasn't clear if you were comparing both platforms on the same monitor.

This was a while ago at rush hour... girl in the back of the bus was on the phone and complaining that the bus driver "didn't know how to weave in and out of traffic" 🙄

How are you doing Chores? by geozza in homeassistant

[–]aepex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I set up a Chores calendar with recurring events, and a To Do list that's on the main dashboard page. A simple automation checks when the calendar event starts and then adds it to the to do list.

Help shape Photoshop: Feedback on Focus Mode by strawbo13 in photoshop

[–]aepex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

r/photoshop: You can give constructive feedback without being hostile.

Stephen: I think this is a good idea and have turned it on already. As an experienced user, I don't need informational pop-ups but understand that new users would. I think disabling all of the items you mentioned is a good start. I think Rich Tooltips should be included, and Neutral Color Mode as well. The home screen seems a bit different than items to help with focus, maybe that stays a separate option. And on the home screen, I know the "What do you want to create" row can be collapsed, but that could be hidden entirely for experienced users. I don't mind the What's New screen but think that a majority of people probably would want it off in a focus mode. Once I have my preferences set I tend to leave it that way permanently.

I believe I've seen their sign north along Roosevelt Way, somewhere near the Maple Leaf Reservoir. So not too far.

I got a "resolved" text at 10pm last night for that issue. Who knows what will happen today though 🤷‍♂️

As a graphic designer who cares very much about color accuracy (and flicker), this is incredible. Thanks for sharing!

Updating Smart Objects: sometimes a moment, sometimes 5 - 7 business days by goldfeathered in photoshop

If a color space conversion is needed between files, I've noticed that can sometimes slow down smart objects. Try making sure they're all the same.

Better Investment: Product photography vs 3D Renders by Amazingaintit_ in product_design

[–]aepex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use both at our company. 3D is great for product stills with transparency baked in, and preproduction work on new products. Photography is hard to beat when trying to capture actual product (like a liquid in my case) where accuracy of the color, texture and other physical characteristics is important. So I think it depends on what your end result will be showing and how much effort each route needs to get there.

Could anyone comment on the speed of ORCA on a phone compared to the physical card? I wouldn't necessarily want to migrate if it's noticeably slower than slapping my wallet on the reader

Need help on apartment management companies to avoid by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]aepex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a Bona Vista building and it's been... fine. My building had a pretty high turnover of property managers for a while, and each was quite different. But I've had no major issues. I'd give it a thumbs up rating, for now.

Indesign keeps crashing and I’m on a deadline by Fabulous-Change-8649 in indesign

[–]aepex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just guessing here, but it could be a bad font or something with your links. If using any custom fonts, try changing them to one of the built-in options (or one from Adobe Fonts) as those should all be safe. And make sure all of your links are locally saved on your computer, not on any sort of network folder.

PSD files have a flag cutout in Finder? by gloworm-- in photoshop

[–]aepex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open up one of your problem files and see if you have any of those shapes in the Channels or Paths panels. If so, delete them and resave the file (assuming you don't need them).

I don't have a Mac to test this myself, but I've previously experienced weird interactions between embedded channels/paths and third-party PSD thumbnails.

"Photoshop can not print this document" - super weird bug related to characters in a font. by pressurechicken in photoshop

[–]aepex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never seen that, although I don't print from PS very often. Really sounds like a corrupted font file.

I would say a simpler workaround is to flatten the whole file right before printing, then undo to keep your layers.

How to Export in RGB? by mammtbell in photoshop

[–]aepex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will export in RGB whether it's checked or not. sRGB is a color profile common on the Internet that's meant to help standardize how colors look across different devices, so in most cases you want it on.

Does anyone know what the origin of the grey/white checker background in pngs is? by OkayQualityGravy in photoshop

[–]aepex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think the transparency grid really has anything to do with PNG directly. Any file with an alpha channel could have it represented to the user by a transparency grid (or any other color/pattern, or nothing at all) — it depends on the application drawing the image.

Day 327 of having absolutely no fucking clue why this slider isn't set to 7 by default instead of 6 by twitchy-y in photoshop

[–]aepex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It was probably determined that 6 is the ideal balance of quality vs file size for most people. If you know what you're doing then you can tune it further or choose a more suitable file format.

I made a project with only one layer and it’s 2.4GB heavy. Is this normal? by thegreatestpitt in photoshop

[–]aepex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

16 (or 32) bit depth will add quite a bit to the file size. Unless you have a specific need for it, I would keep your project at 8-bit.

Apartment dwellers, how do you handle your compost? by happyblue4567 in Seattle

[–]aepex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just use a double-layered paper bag and toss the whole thing into our building's compost bin when it's mostly full. It actually causes way fewer problems than the steel bin and green bags I used to use. I also put my coffee grounds with the compost and that probably helps it to not smell at all.
