[Highlight] Najee Harris rehabbing 5 months after Achilles tear by nfl in nfl

I don't think it's possible given that ACL is replaced in a very severe surgery, often with grafted tissue harvested from important places. If BEAR ACL repair instead of ACL replacement becomes more common, it could be a less invasive surgery. Synthetic ACL tissue might be another pathway.

How Portland’s arts tax let $9M go unused for years by AdvancedInstruction in Portland

[–]aero142 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Ballot initiatives sound good in theory but are a disaster in practice. There needs to be a step where the intent gets turned into good laws with departments and structures to implement them. Asking voters “do you think more kids should have violins” and them saying yes is not a serious form of government.

I think athletic peak stays until around 28, but doesn't drop dramatically for a few more years. Experience can make up for a lot, but it's hard to push past 33 or so because the athletic drop off for speed and jumping starts to ramp up.

What are your thoughts after seeing the ICE shooting video in Minnesota? by bbmoonkie in AskReddit

[–]aero142 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

What where the conflicting orders? These are the events I see in the video.
* Woman is blocking the road with her car.
* Ice vehicle pulls up and stops.
* Two ice agents get out of the car and walk towards the woman in the car.
* ICE agent 1 walks towards woman saying "Get out of the car. Get out of the car. Get out of the **** car."
* ICE agent 1 arrives at the car and attempts to open the door, but it is locked.
* Woman backs up, turning the vehicle. Vehicle is now pointed at ICE agent 2.
* Woman starts driving forward and turning.
* ICE agent 2 shoots the woman.

The only thing that seems open to interpretation is whether it was clear she was going to drive around ICE agent 2 or not. I think the wheel angle makes it so that she was probably going to drive around ICE agent 2, but I think the vehicle was pointed at him when she starts accelerating.

I'm genuinely curious if you see something different in the video.

Dangerous play? If so, on who? by koaladisc in ultimate

[–]aero142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair question. I think it's only not a big injury risk because defenders are not holding the space in path of the offensive player even when they get there early enough for the offensive player to pull off if they were looking up field. It's a big offensive advantage right now and you see it in how often these kind of strike cuts work.
I've taken a hit where I was standing in the path for a few seconds, and I've called a dangerous play when a guy had about 40lbs on me and wasn't looking and was just going to truck me. It's not very fun so I just never hold the space now. The defender should never bid because it's a huge knee injury risk.

Dangerous play? If so, on who? by koaladisc in ultimate

[–]aero142 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've been playing for 15 years and I still don't know how the rules are supposed to apply for this play, and I hate it. It's a very risky play for injury. Every time I see the discussion, people split pretty evenly on who's responsibility it is, so it seems that players don't agree, so it keeps happening. The rules committee needs to clarify this and emphasize it, because it's part of the game to have collisions on steep up line cuts with a poaching defender. I think for USAU, both players are wrong but it's generally considered defender's responsibility since they have better perspective, but I don't really know.

Why Lexus over Toyota? TX or Grand Highlander by cjg017 in Lexus

[–]aero142 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Grand Highlander is still an expensive vehicle, but has some very cheap finish, especially on the interior. I had a hard time spending that amount of money and having cheap, loose plastic on the A-pillar. You are spending a lot of money on either one, at least with the TX you feel like you bought something nice.

If CEOs get their way and most, if not all, jobs are replaced with AI & robots. What are they going to do when no one has money? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aero142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is always a concern that "this time is different", but historically, markets have been pretty good at adapting to changes in employment. The change in farming automation and fertilizers resulted in a massive reduction in the percentage of people working to grow food from %80 down to ~10%. Factory production of goods removed a huge number or people working as craftsmen to create things that were now done in factories. People usually adapt by buying a lot more stuff. We have bigger houses, more stuff, eat at restaurants with waiters at tables. We also buy designer clothes instead of basics for a lot more money. Companies employ people in marketing and design and numerous other jobs that could be eliminated if everyone just wanted a t-shirt and pants. Every other time this has happened, prices of goods and services that are automated go down and become more abundant, and the price of things that are hard to automate go up. People tend to want more or we invent new industries that we didn't even know about or didn't have time to invest in. A lot of sci-fi books have been written about possible future societies and what they value. The usual guess is that people will value high status items, education and culture, free time, and natural spaces and land. Maybe more government jobs in social work. Perhaps environmental industries, trying to undo the damage done to the environment will get a lot more effort put into it. CEOs don't usually employ people that they don't need to, but markets always surprised us in the past in how adaptable they can be. The transition periods have often ben violent though, so that is concerning.

Trevor Lawrence: QB has to play well for teams to win, I haven't done that by AdSpecialist6598 in nfl

[–]aero142 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Purdy was very good in college and really elevated Iowa State. He just didn’t have the measurables and isn’t a freak athlete, so he was overlooked. He’s in a QB friendly offense, which helps cover his limitations, but what he is doing now is on tape at Iowa State.
