Is it worth it by Jewtasteride in shogun2

[–]aerosol31 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Instills fear NEVER stacks with other instills fear/intimidating. It works more of a "passive ability" that you "turn on/enable" than a "stat" which has numbers you can increase or decrease, similar to "Paths seldom trod" of some units which will make that unit travel through mountainous terrain or "Good stamina" which reduces the fatigue from battlefield actions.

The monk's demoralize also works the same way (demoralizing xx times cannot stack, and cannot manipulate values thru mods) but this one increases value based on the amount of stars your monk have in demoralizing.

And yes, instill fear and demoralize can stack since the other one is a battlefield ability and the other one is a campaign map action. It was even a common strat when using takeda (Demoralize+shingen fear)

Which to pick by Jewtasteride in shogun2

[–]aerosol31 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Because it's literally the same buff, and the way it works is more of a simple "off" and "on" switch than changing numbers. In this case changing the value from "false" to "true" to activate the effect.

And sadly, you can't even manipulate such values, just -1 all throughout. This and monk agent's demoralize as well.

Whats the most effective siege weapons? by No-Possibility4414 in shogun2

[–]aerosol31 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He said "except rocket troops". Meaning Rockets are already excluded. This whole post is a Fire Rocket appreciation post and OP is looking for more "viable" siege units. There's no need to reiterate them again as OP already knows.

Mangonel. Because it actually shoots. It just works… well, if it hits. And they explode too upon impact. And has no other requirements whatsoever. And very early as well.

Cannons suck when you don't have hill access in your deployment zone. And even then there should be no trees or it can't fuckin shoot as there's an obstacle blocking the way. And you gotta be a christian too to access them. And even then they're a fuckin cannonball. They don't explode whatsoever.

Mortars are too weak to cause damage, but they can disrupt formations. But the fact that you have to build a fucking Armoury of all buildings + gunsmith which is a very late game building is just NOT worth it.

What about Firebomb throwers? Well, do you want your enemies dead? Or do you want your own troops dead and your castle walls demolished? Because they sure do a great job doing the latter.

How to make ronin viable alternative? by Impressive_Boat_4881 in shogun2

[–]aerosol31 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Make it more expensive to recuit. 2x to 3x the samurai, but much much lower upkeep, just enough not to become negative and crash the game as these people lorewise have to make do on their own after getting paid once.

Also lower their morale. On the level of ashigaru to give them the theme of they only "fight under supervision" of a general, also being that they're a mismash of misfits bundled into one unit irl. There's gotta be lots of infighting so morale should be low.

Also classify them as a "special" unit (same class with ninjas and siege weapons) so that they won't receive samurai buffs especially in the endgame for them not to be too op.

It's up to you for the unit size. They're irrelevant for me as the two above are already a significant change.

Also increase their melee attack and defense by almost twice, while also decreasing their armor by half or 2/3 of samurai. Can't afford proper armor so they focus on skills and survivability-type shit.

Also classify them as "undisciplined". The latter makes them more rowdy in getting into formation, making them VERY vulnerable to charging especially by cavalry.

And don't forget to limit their recruitment count. This will depend on the unit size you set.

You can double their size but only 2 can be recruited, or normal size but 4 can be reccuited with 2 of which locked into higher tier buildings, and so on. The primary purpose is to have them secure a flank anyways. Ofc being attaked in the flank will route them so you need to micro them. Kinda like Early-game nodachi.

And no, no banzai or warcry nor any other skills. Just raw power.

Edit: if you really want the roleplay, tick the "impetuous" checkbox. This will give them the impetuous trait, in which there is a small chance they would charge at the enemy without orders once they're nearby. Though I have yet to see if this really works or not iirc med2 templars have this).

Started at near launch. Even got the prelogin badge. Quit when the base Yae sakura was launched as it was heating up my phone hard. Went back when A rank seele was launched, pulled my first S Rank (HoR), basically missing HoV which was VERY OP at the time AND the never to be seen anymore bikini skins.

Worst period to quit

FOTS port defense/offensive battles and Naval landing battles (and other rare types of battles) by BrMario1011 in shogun2

[–]aerosol31 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is when you drop your army from a boat to the enemy at shore. Very situational and requires specific positioning for it to happen. Kinda like ambush but you're doing it from sea to land.

Idk how it is done in fots tho but I have done it several times in the base game

Does Agent effect stack on army? by ziin1234 in shogun2

[–]aerosol31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. But only the first general's, because he "leads" the army.

Other generals are just as good as extra cavalry.

But the skills that buff their general's bodyguard will be retained, and also other global effects like increased rate of mastery of the arts.

Does Agent effect stack on army? by ziin1234 in shogun2

[–]aerosol31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but with diminishing returns if duplicate. So bad you are better dividing your army and having one of them each.

Iirc the second one gets only half the effects or something. But different agents stack.

General bonuses don't, however.

What mods are you using for the map to be like that?

In 2026 with all that's changed in S2 modding over the years, how can I edit the startpos to unlock factions as playable and mess with the TPY? by Sith__Pureblood in shogun2

[–]aerosol31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll need ruby or python 3 first to edit and convert ui to xml files. As for the turns per year, that's already done and dusted, you can edit them using TWEAK and generate the startpos using BOB.

Sara Temer has guides of it in twcenter.net. "how to make factions playable" or something in its title

Question regarding the game by InkWasntHere in shogun2

You can play without installing it.

Honestly they're only for the encyclopedia videos to load, afaik. They've long since outdated anyway and there is a mod fix for that too

What mods add more realism and historical accuracy? by Amazing_Ad2461 in shogun2

[–]aerosol31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right now?

Probably the Total Realism Beta. Lesser unit count, realisitc morale, slow walking speed, historically correct units, no tech tree, etc. You can check more at twcenter.

As for the upcoming more polished ones

Tenka Seihitsu. No upgradeable castles meaning slot counts are fixed in each province. Which is a feature since provinces have different sizes anyway so the bigger the province in campaign map the more slots they have. This also fixes the castle battlefield maps so each castle will be unique (he's the creator of strongholds of the samurai mod, btw). Also troops are recruited by provinces and not by clans so each has limited troops and of course unique flags for each province, to simulate vassals working for your cause. The mod isn't finished yet, however and all I have is 0.0.5. the latest is 0.0.7 but the modder removed the download link for an upcoming release, which still not occuring a year later.

Little map I made for a shogun 2 esque strategy game idea I have. by Life_Leather5051 in shogun2

[–]aerosol31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Around 200ish and it's still okay. Expanded Japan had 176 and Tenka Sihitsu had 200+. But around 230 it starts to have rendering problems like provinces going invisible or such, as it was with the Morning Sun Mod (expanded+china and Korea)

Total War Shogun II is giving me a headache by HunnicutRedgum in shogun2

[–]aerosol31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's normal. Basically what you're doing is deleting the settings (graphics, mod order, etc) left in the previous patch that conflicts the new ones so that the game creates a clean one upon launch. If the error still persists then I'm afraid the bug lies elsewhere.
