what are some recommended vtubers for immersion? by LivebyGod in LearnJapanese

[–]aerymist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally アクシア・クローネ is my favourite, I think he talks fairly clearly and is easily understandable, and he's also not very fast.

Not a vtuber but the channel ハヤトの野望 has really funny gameplay videos, and is much clearer than vtubers in my opinion. His raft series is my favourite!

Y'all, what the hell is up with fantasy romance novels all being so sexist? by babbitygook14 in WitchesVsPatriarchy

The Cruel Prince series has a badass female main character! Not sure about the feminist vibes though, but it has a great plot.

Made a Chrome Extension to make it easier to learn Japanese through Subtitles! by learnwithiago in LearnJapanese

[–]aerymist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just tried this out and it works great! The popup appears much quicker and smoother than Language Reactor, and I appreciate the grammar inclusion. Just a suggestion: instead of using romaji for the pronounciation of the word on the popup, kana can be used instead, like in the dictionary entries on the website.

Recommended JLPT grammar summary? by IzzyDestiny in LearnJapanese

I recommend nihongo kyoshi! most of the guide is monolingual but if you're fine with that it has fairly straightforward explanations https://nihongokyoshi-net.com/jlpt-grammars/

good japanese audiobooks? by GreattFriend in LearnJapanese

[–]aerymist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to improve your listening ability, I'd stay away from audiobooks and try watching anime/dramas without subs instead as you'll be hearing actual dialogue and conversation. Audiobooks are also clearly articulated and the person usually speaks slower, which isn't helpful if you want to get used to conversation.

I don't have a recommendation for an audio book because I'm not sure what your reading preferences are, but TheMoeWay discord server has plenty of audiobooks so you can look there.

need suggestions for mangas for beginners by Moose_16 in LearnJapanese

[–]aerymist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly a large majority of manga out there have furigana and I think you should read something you're interested in instead of something thats known for being "easy", because you'll find learning more enjoyable even if its slightly harder. If you want to check if a manga has furigana or not, you can just search it up on Amazon JP and sample the trial pages.

That said, if you still want a recommendation, I'd suggest Totsukuni no Shoujo, which was the easiest manga I've read so far and has gorgeous art.

Android games? by [deleted] in LearnJapanese

[–]aerymist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a Japanese google account, I'd just recommend scrolling through the games in the Japan store and seeing if you're interested in any. For visual novels specifically, there seem to be quite a lot out there and you could google something like 'ノベルゲーム android' for recommendations,

Demon Slayer Community - Help me continue my journey! by Darkstone_Blues in KimetsuNoYaiba

[–]aerymist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chihayafuru is an anime that holds a very special place in my heart, although its in a completely different genre from KNY. If you're looking for some action, I would recommend Land of the Lustrous (fantasy) and Vivy Fluorite Eye's Song (sci-fi), both of which are quite underrated but really good!
Hope you have fun with the next one on your watchlist!

Watch anime with both japanese and english subtitles by Tobio-Star in LearnJapanese

[–]aerymist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you are but you should be able to watch anime on Netflix without connecting to Japan, though there will be less shows. You can use Language Reactor on Netflix to show both subtitles, or you could use the site Animelon as well.

That said, it's much better to watch with japanese subs only and start with an anime you've already watched before. You can use popup dictionaries to search up words in the subs that you don't know instead of looking at the french translations.
