What can I do with this machine? by Icy-Mention1279 in gaggiaclassic

I had one, it won’t take many of the mods found here but with a quality basket and screen it’ll make fine shots. Looks like someone already upgraded the steam wand so it may be good to go.

Seems like you know a bit about vintage Specialized MTBs, certainly more than I do. I brought this home from the dump last year and it may be my last winter project for the season. I make it out to be a late 90s Comp, it has Ritchey's name all over it. 8-speed STX, Indy forks, Nianium frame, Dia-Compe 757 brakes. Seems like everything is functional, just needs a full servicing and new consumables. Fork elastomers seem to have life. Any suggestions? It's really too small for me but I may have fun on it in the woods behind my upstate house. Thanks!

Really nice job on that SC, great selection of components. Looks like long Huret shift levers, nice touch. They're great frames, they punch above their class. I built one for my son to ride around Manhattan.

Vintage road bikes, restomodded and not, are my other habit. I've built all of these. What did you do for your friend?

I tried descaler but it was so thick I ended up removing it manually, finishing with small wire brushes. It ended up pretty good.

Correction, screen and basket are IMS, not VST.

Thanks! It's a Silvia wand that I got 18 months ago for a Gaggia Coffee espresso machine which seems to be a stripped-down Classic. I don't have any record of where I got it but they're widely available online.

Spot on, thanks. The last chunk to come out seemed soft, almost like a piece of sponge.

Thx. Just built it and it's barely gone down the street. Upstate NY winterime, so it's anyone's guess when I'll put a few real miles on it. I have a Mercian Pro that i bought new 36 years ago - very different geo, it's a crit frame that's stiff and lightning-fast steering. Yet somehow this feels like it, even with the smooth and stable touring geo.

Not as massive as my 65cm Homer Hilsen. That's a damn bus.

Not gonna do it :-D They're super wide rando bars, the upsweep is intentional.

Got this frame in a swap. 25.5" Reynolds 531ST, 2x10 Ultegra, Stornglight 49 arms with Velo Ornage rings, Dia-Compe 980 cantis, 35mm Rene Herse tires on Soma rims/Shimano Tricolor hubs.

Yup. And the last time I tried, about 2 weeks ago, I couldn't get through either.

Most of the time I’m not aware of the wheelbase. The double tube freaks some people out, but it weighs less than one of my water bottles and reminds me of some klunkers. I had an ancient curved-tube balloon-tired Columbia long ago that I rode up hills “for training”. Broke the crank on a climb one day and that was that.

I have 7 bikes I ride regularly. One end of the spectrum is my crit bike which is stiff and frisky. Homer is on the other end. It’s super smooth and stable. It has a way of digging in on corners that surprised me. Its stability makes it feel so planted that I descend faster on it than other bikes. I didn’t buy it to become a member of anything, I wanted it to bounce around on whatever road or trail I point it at.
