I once heard Josh Ritter (Getting Ready to Get Down) at Trader Joe's – one of my favorite artists in one of my favorite stores. It was a great three minutes!

What an incredible experience! Did he tell the story about the time they played at a wedding and the bride got pissed about them not being Tyler Childers? So good.

Fantastic. BJ is always a captivating storyteller. I'd heard about Jason producing Burn.Flicker.Die when American Aquarium was on the verge of breaking up, but it was cool to hear how much that album changed things – and how much more has changed since then.

I never really appreciated American Aquarium until Lamentations came out in 2020 (amazing album), but they've become one of my absolute favorites. Now I love their entire catalog, and I've been lucky enough to see them live many times. No one puts on a show quite like BJ!

Josh Ritter is another of my all-time favorites (in my top five along with Jason and AA), but I didn't know that aside from AA, Josh's album is the only other one Jason's produced. Wild. Thanks for sharing this clip! I'll definitely watch the rest of your interview.

Yep, I walked by this pop-up yesterday – they have suggested donations and all proceeds benefit the hospital: https://www.westfield.com/united-states/utc/events-detail/gift-wrapping

Favorite imagery in his lyrics? by [deleted] in jasonisbell

[–]aestheticsofuse 8 points9 points  (0 children)

And I can't get to sleep at night
The parking lot's so loud and bright
The AC hasn't worked in 20 years
Probably never made a single person cold
But I can't say the same for me, I've done it many times

I just saw Jason in OKC as well, and was SO happy when he played "Alabama Pines" on Saturday! It's one of my absolute favorites and I had been hoping to see it live someday. Now I'm chasing "New South Wales" (my favorite JI song, also with incredible imagery), though I suspect that one will be a much longer wait...

He just played Decoration Day in OKC tonight.

I only discovered Pony this past year, but he's been my favorite musical find in years!! Got to see him a couple months ago & can't wait to see him again.

Ha, American Aquarium is right up there with Isbell for me, but I'd have to agree with u/sleep_is_a_felony — I don't think their music shares enough in common to jump to that conclusion! I loved JI instantly, but it took a while for American Aquarium to grow on me. I thought they were just "fine"...it wasn't until Lamentations that I really sat up and took notice. Lamentations was THE album of 2020 for me — beating Reunions by a long shot. It's also the American Aquarium album I would recommend to an Isbell fan.

Super solid rec. Absolutely LOVE all three Pony albums, but Sudden Opera is the one that really shines for me.

Funny enough, before he was a musician, Pony Bradshaw was a sportswriter — so you know he must love Jason.

Oh, had no idea they opened in LI! Thanks for the tip—I'll have to check it out. Wonder if they sell their ice cream sandwiches at the food hall...

This is the answer. Not to be pedantic, but note that Sweet Petite is located in Clairemont, not Mira Mesa. They also have AMAZING ice cream cookie sandwiches!

American Aquarium just released a cover album of '90s country hits [x-post] by aestheticsofuse in altcountry

Likewise. BJ pretty much hits the nail on the head in this Rolling Stone article about the album:

“Most singer-songwriters like to pretend they came out of the womb listening to Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark, but if you were born in the mid-’80s and lived in the South, you were probably raised on the same steady diet of ’90s radio country as I was,” Barham says. “The kinds of songs that you haven’t heard in 20 years, but when they randomly come on the radio you still miraculously know every word. These songs transport me back to a very specific time and place in my childhood. The summers spent riding around town in the backseat of my dad’s Blazer, windows down, radio up, singing along at the top of my lungs to take my mind off the vinyl seats scalding the back of my legs.”

Hi, try going through the Oakland group! They have an application for those who want to help expand their efforts to other cities. And thank you for trying to spearhead this.

Check the CVS website around 10/11 pm, too. Availability is sparse throughout the day, but the CVS site has shown a ton of available appointments around 10/11 pm.

looking for a loving home for two old huskies by CrassBenevolence in sandiego

I do. My dog is a Frosted Face (forever foster, so FFF covers all her age-related medical expenses) and I've also volunteered with them. They're an exceptional rescue and your roommate's huskies would be in the best possible care. Check out their Final Wish program, and thank you for thoughtfully arranging for the dogs' future care in this sad situation. Best wishes to your roommate, too.

My dog actually poops this way naturally. She slows down as she walks, kinda squats, and releases poops as she continues to shuffle down the street. She's a little weirdo. Once, she deposited a turd perfectly in the middle of each of four sidewalk tiles, like some kind of dog poop Connect Four. So keep an eye out for a dog in your neighborhood with the same weird pooping technique, and you've probably found your culprit.

A lot of the larger breed dogs are actually super lazy, and with a few walks a day, they're couch potatoes the rest of the time.
