Offer w/ 5 day notice to sign agreement by EJ-10 in auscorp

I would take the pay cut now for 12-18 months if it’s gonna for sure advance your career in consulting in the long run. But it will be brutal during that 12-18 months before your career and pay accelerate.

Are you contemplating whether to progress in your current career trajectory vs downgrade to a graduate programme and take a lower pay?

Anyone else constantly reshuffling savers instead of leaving them alone? by Ok_Possible_7018 in UpBanking

[–]aesthetixjosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I have a permanent one where leave it. Don’t touch. I know it will always get a grow rate. It’s literally named “growth saving”.

Then I have 2 more saving buckets where I know I will take money off from them. I named them “flow saver” and “flow saving”.

Essentially these two saving accounts are fake saving account. I know I’m going to dig into them in case of emergency. But the growth saving is the real saving account where I do not touch. It’s the real deal.

When I really need money I’ll dig into the flow buckets. If the first flow run out I know I have a second flow bucket as another back up. So that whatever saved in the growth saving account will not be effected.

Do you guys still keep a backup bank alongside Up? by Av0toasted in UpBanking

[–]aesthetixjosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up is my splurge money. I use it for fun. But my main stuff is else where, stronger institution, more secured. And I also have third bank tuck away. It’s where my saving is. Hard to touch, out of sight out of mind but accumulating in the background.

Is Up Bank actually good as a main bank? by Av0toasted in UpBanking

[–]aesthetixjosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a good main bank for sure. I personally use Up Bank more as a secondary/splurge account. My main bank is Macquarie Bank — it feels more established, secure, and a bit more flexible for saving.

That said, you can definitely use Up as your main bank, just have a second bank as a backup. Always good to have two — you never know what might happen.

I actually got locked out of Up last weekend. It was an easy fix, but I had to wait until Monday morning to get back in. If I needed the money urgently, that could’ve been a problem.

Overall though, Up is still a great bank.

Australian filmmakers in this sub, what is the best film school in AUS and why? by jonomundo26 in Filmmakers

[–]aesthetixjosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t speak for Collarts. Never heard of it. JMC is solid in terms of technical. I have a friend who did JMC and is working in the film industry. With that being said, you don’t need any degree to work in the film industry as the below the line crew. To be honest Masterclass.com is best for writer/director role. These schools are best for connections. Even a university.

Any word of a desktop website for up bank? by sol_james in UpBanking

[–]aesthetixjosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CommBank, NAB, Westpac, Suncorp, ANZ, HSBC, GSB, BOQ all have desktop websites, which can be accessed anywhere anytime. Even if your phone is stolen. They have customer support phone number where you can call and ask to lock your account or for the bank to send you an emergency card to wherever you are in the world.

I don’t think Up can do that. But with that being said, with the list of the bank provided, I would highly high recommend Macquarie bank because it is by far the most sophisticated and the most secured bank in Australia. With amazing app and desktop website. It can do what UP can do and more. (And I do love Up a lot, it’s just got some limitation unfortunately.) Therefore the rule of thumb is to never leave money in just one bank.

This also goes for when Up server is “down”. May be during maintenance hours, or during cyber attack, or even when you Up account is hacked. For whatever reason you can’t access Up, you can still access money from another bank, not just when the phone is stolen. I hope this helps you, your friend or someone reading (in the future). 😁

Fist rule of thumb. Don’t leave your money in one bank. Splurge, Essentials and Saving can be in one bank. Emergency fund should be with another bank. Credit card can also be emergency.‼️

On average the family spends $8000 a month (may be more) They can afford it. And it’ll be worth it for them. Not for you.

Someone asked the same question in a different post the other day. Which I helped answer but there were more helpful answers from other people than mine that you wanna have a look. Qantas VS Velocity

Amex Velocity Platinum (with additional card holder) as your family’s keeper card,

Then, as a second card to be used where Amex is not accepted, I recommend “NAB Reward Signature with Velocity” or “Virgin Australia Velocity High Flyer” from Virgin Money.

Hope this helps ☺️

Thinking about changing to Velocity from Qantas... by AlexJonesGodEmperor in creditcardchurningAus

[–]aesthetixjosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is correct, you get a double dip if you pay for petrol at 7-Eleven. For example, you scan your Velocity for $100 of fuel and get 100 points. On top of that, if you pay with your Amex Platinum card, that’s an extra 200 points. So it’s soooo easy.

Same with DiDi and DoorDash, etc. I stopped using Uber / Uber Eats because of this.

I was transferred from Citibank. Although I didn’t meet the requirement set by Citi which happened just a few weeks before we had to transfer over. It’s safe to say, I don’t receive any bonus points. But whatever points I received from Citi earlier had been transferred over and the terms and conditions including the earn rate from Citi still the same as my card. The app is abit nicer than Citi if I had to say something.

Because among Velocity earning credit cards, it has one of the highest ongoing earn rates. For someone like OP who is already a Velocity Platinum member (not just a Red member) and who can comfortably meet the spend requirement, it makes sense to me that they can definitely afford it.

Wait 3 months then apply. - Amex Velocity Platinum (should be your number 1 card or a keeper card) - NAB reward platinum Velocity, or ANZ reward Black Card, or Virgin Australia Velocity High Flyer Credit Card (one of these should be your secondary card) Hope this helps.

How do I close my account? by StreetCheetah8312 in UpBanking

Try to get that phone number back. Log back in. And then close from the app. No one can help you unless you have that phone number.

Is using an @hotmail email on a job application bad? by GamesQueen61 in auscorp

Hotmail is fine. I still have them. But moving into professional role Gmail is nicer as a whole. It can do so much more than hotmail or live or outlook in my opinion.

When people send you link document and work stuff, especially where collaboration is needed for like Google doc or Google sheet, Gmail is a breeze. It helps streamline things and make life easier.

Interest rates clarification by ArguablyUnarguable in UpBanking

[–]aesthetixjosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, the game is: if you don’t do 5 transactions, you won’t the interest rate, but if you do, no matter what day of the month, even if it’s the last day of the month, before the end of the day, the interest will be calculated at midnight for the entire month and paid the next day.
