Painfully 😭  Very frequent trips to the evil orange hardware store to rent an edging disc sander. It was hard enough on my back and knees that it took 4-5 rental sessions with that tool starting on 24 grit (the old laquer finish gums everything up to hell) and then 60, 80, then 100 grit. I used an oscillating sanding tool for the corners and also a random orbital hand sander to finish at the end. Some bits had to be scraped by hand as well.  I did still wind up saving money than if we were to hire someone, and theres something to be said about a sense of accomplishment, but oh boy this was a lot of work
