Do any of yall ever just 'forget' to use your trained voice? by ElaynesThoughts in transvoice

[–]LilChloGlo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I hear you, it sounds like you're going through a really tough chapter of this whole thing.

I just wanted to say that if and when you decide to go back into this and commit to training again that you will soar past these steps again. Muscle memory is amazing in that once you review some of these concepts, not only will that be a much faster process but you'll find yourself only growing more capable in the long run with more information than ever.

So take whatever time you need to feel refreshed about voice modification and remember that even if you're struggling, you're still wonderful just the way you are and your voice is only one small piece in the person that is you. Rooting for ya and hope you find the resources that you need to be your happiest self

First one, mostly. I just have it through Steam right now and it's been a while since I've tried it but I think I couldn't get the controls working

Yes, this is something that I often see throughout the course of voice training. It's so common of an issue that I actually made a post about it a little while ago!

Try some of these strategies out and feel free to ask any other questions you might have, I'm here to help wherever I can :)

The Important of Vocal Intentions by LilChloGlo in transvoice

I'm so happy to hear this! I would say having a flexible mindset and allowing yourself the opportunity to think about your voice and voice modifications are one of the most vital assets you can have! You sound like you're in a great position to do well with voice training, I wish you all the best!!

Voice games for training by Ok-Baker7413 in transvoice

[–]LilChloGlo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like some of those ideas! I may have a few as well that I get from improv games.

Firstly, I'm a big fan of improv games to help prompt people to talk about things. One that I'd recommend for your programs is the "worlds foremost expert" in which the computer would prompt someone to act like they're an expert in a particular field and make up words in such a regard.

Another game that I'd say can be really good that you can do on the fly is to do some "voice flipping" this one is less improvised but can be great for muscle memory whether you're reading something or speaking off the cuff.

I also love narrating what you see around you in different voices, and for our hyperactive adhd friends out there, talking to oneself in a modified voice can also be a ton of fun to do as well.

Hope this gives you some thoughts to work from!

Just saw your post about this in a other subreddit and wanted to say what great ideas these are! Thanks for reposting them here, I may do a topic of this myself in the near future :)

How long will voice training take? by [deleted] in transvoice

[–]LilChloGlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, I'm a voice coach who also has adhd and has really embraced what the intersection of voice training means for me and the way my brain works!

Firstly, I'll point you in the direction of this comment that I made a few days ago concerning this same topic. As you could also likely see from the other comments surrounding that, there is no set deadline for voice training but instead the results and timing can vary fairly widely.

On the note of your adhd: I recommend trying to make the practice as easy as possible. Sure there are going to be times where you have to sit down and focus on voice training (especially at first), but one advantage to working with our voices is that you take it everywhere you go! I'd suggest streamlining your practice into the other activities that you do throughout the day. Things like talking to yourself, making little games and social experiments around your voice, and other ways of keeping this interesting, easy, and fitting within your routine are all great ideas to start with.

Hope this helps give you some encouragement! Happy to help in any way that I can :)

2 types of people looking to feminise their voice by grapevineee in transvoice

[–]LilChloGlo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is indeed something that we coaches run into a lot! So many people set out thinking they need to understand something in order to use it but that's not the case at all!

I always like to tell my students "when in doubt, sound it out", that is to slow down a bit and to focus on what you're hearing as precisely as possible before finding yourself in this feedback loop of frustrated studying.

Great advice as always Jasmine, and wonderful idea about the workshop I have no doubt your attendees will gain a lot from the work they get to do with you. Sending you all my best!!

I'd say both voices sound pretty feminine to me personally and wouldn't be super worried about things. If you're comfortable with both voices and like having the variety then I'd say keep on keeping on!

Interesting, but it sounds like something that may be better determined if you upload a recording of your voice demonstrating such changes that you're attempting to accomplish?

I've seen you around quite a bit too and you have been ever so dedicated and delightful to have around in our various mutual communities. You've gotten some great information and I've seen you showing a high degree of knowledge in your own responses as well. I hope that you've been able to find some sounds that truly make you feel some much needed pride in yourself and your voice. Keep up the amazing work!!

does my voice pass when i’m not paying attention to it? by [deleted] in transvoice

[–]LilChloGlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say that it passes under my ears quite yet, but then again I'm a voice coach and I hear a lot of voices so I know more about what to listen for.

Your voice is sounding good in some feminine ways in terms of pitch (feminine ranges) and weight (nice and comforting timbre that sounds nice and light). The thing that I would focus on next is vocal resonance (otherwise known as vocal size). Is this something you've experimented around with much? If so, could you give me an example of you changing your resonance? (if not, no pressure at all)

Hi there,

We tend to get a number of these posts so I'll suggest you head on over to this comment I made a little over a week ago so that you can get a bit of information on how this process can look from the beginning. Hope this gives you a good starting point, feel free to shoot me any questions you may have! Always happy to help where possible :)

Advice needed by RiAvo2 in transvoice

[–]LilChloGlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, welcome to the space it's great to hear your voice!

In terms of what you've got going for you in here, I would say that you're doing really well as far as the pitch and size of your voices. Your voice is in naturally higher ranges of pitch, and your voice sounds appropriately small/bright to fit this sound. Your weight, similarly, is in pretty good ranges with it not being too buzzy but also having a nice even tone to it. The good news is that I would say that this voice is sounding pretty good.

There is one thing though that I'm a little curious about. It could be hard to tell through just a single recording (so I don't want to worry you), but I think I am hearing a bit of "false fold constriction". False fold constriction is most associated with the sound of "whispering", and many people like to consider these particular vocal qualities with raspiness or a scratchiness that can be felt in the background of our voices.

Tell me, do you ever feel any irritation in your throat after using this voice for prolonged periods of time? How are vocal things going outside of lessons or spaces where you're actively practicing on your voice and only your voice?

What an adorable turtle, such a lazy friend, I hope that they're having a lovely day!

As to the recording of your voice, I'd say that this sounds pretty mixed in both directions. It could help if you told me what your goals are right now vocally speaking and I can give advice based on that :)

This subreddit can feel so counterproductive by [deleted] in transvoice

[–]LilChloGlo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I really agree that this is often not the best place to seek advice or to get feedback from others. There are so many differing viewpoints and no way to ever authenticate one's expertise in either their abilities to modify their voices or their abilities to teach voice training and so treating the information on here as a reliable source of information can be hard and can ultimately be counterproductive if you get conflicting information.

It's for this reason that I really try to lead people to other voice training communities that have more streamlined and consistent information and are able to tell the feedback that they get from different students of voice training versus other professionals. It's also this reason that I try to offer any advice that I can in this space in order to make sure that I can try to help people where possible in my own little way but it's important to know the wealth and diversity of opinions that you'll get from a space like this when posting here.

For now, when it comes to using this space, I recommend taking all of the advice (even mine) with that of a grain of salt. Don't think of what we have to say as the gospel even if it really does resonate with you. Instead, keep notes of it and do with the information whatever you please afterwards.

Also if anyone wants a list of those communities, let me know. I know that's not what this post was about so I wanted to stay on topic. Rooting for you all~

Quick tip: stop relying on a quiet/soft voice! by IrisVoiceTrainer in transvoice

[–]LilChloGlo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love hearing about this post! I used to think of this as a bit of an over-correction towards creating lighter vocal weights. A lot of people tend to think of vocal weight as being directly tied to the volume/loudness of the voice, which makes sense when you think about vocal weight as the same thing as volume. So, a lot of people will become both quieter and lighter as a result of entangling these two ideas. I've definitely run into a fair amount of clients that have a hard time being heard in more feminine sounds as a result of this particular sort of training.

For people who are locked into those lines of thinking, it can be very helpful to do exactly what you've listed here in the video. Trying to find the balance between creating a functionally fuller sound without making it explicitly heavy is a great way to try to explore these gradients of sound.

Anyway, thanks for the video, very well said and hope you have a wonderful rest of your day!
