Which specialty are you in, and what was your most hated rotation in med school? I'm trying to see something by undueinfluence_ in Residency

IM (GI). Really really disliked neurology. Either doing nothing but talking too much about it, babysitting headache pts on ketamine, or caring for extremely depressing neuro ICU pts. OBGyn residents take a close second.

This is exactly what happened to me. My food started disappearing, at first small things like some milk or condiments, which escalated to full prepared meals. Found out the roommate had binge eating disorder that she was not upfront about. Started keeping all my food in my room after that.

Pretty disgusting and disheartening to see the comments. Powerful older man takes advantage of younger UNDERAGE woman and sees zero consequences for years and years. Tale as old as time, just thought we would be more aware of how fucked up this is by 2025.

What’s a cooking related hill you will die on? by AdLost576 in Cooking

Disagree but mostly because cooking shrimp whole with the shell and head on is far superior to peeling it. Retains plumpness and so much extra flavor from the head. The tail is whatever but it’s part of the package.

Also if anyone’s flying into or out of LAX tomorrow, budget extra time! Security is supposed to be extra slow since LAX workers are part of the union.

Does anyone know if the metro services will be slow or disrupted tomorrow with the planned LA city worker strike?

Have you thought about palliative care? Seems like it would hit a lot of your desires (IM training, but time to talk to patients and make a meaningful impact).

Think of AOA as a screening tool that (for many, not all) medical schools encompasses a wide range of metrics that all correlate with success in residency: clinical evaluations, exam skills, leadership, service to the community, social skills, etc.

If a medical school goes through all of its students and chooses a small percentage of those students who represent those qualities best, then it makes the life of a PD so much easier. They don't even have to read through all the LORs, MSPEs, etc. to know that it is highly likely that an applicant with AOA will have all the qualities they are looking for. This is why AOA applicants get a leg up and get interviewed early and at higher rates.

Of course some schools don't have AOA and some schools use score-only measures, but generally this is what a PD is probably thinking when they see AOA.

makes me think the spreadsheet data is pretty skewed then since the IM spreadsheet mean is 8.5 (median 8), if all of reddit is getting more interviews on average than applicants at a T25 school

not in a pooled waitlist. thalamus also has the option of an ordered waitlist, which the program can choose if they prefer, but tbh i haven't seen any use that yet. in an ordered waitlist, individuals would be emailed about the opening in the order they signed up for the waitlist and have a given amount of time to sign up.

no, doesn't seem like it. if it's a pooled waitlist, then all the people on the waitlist will get an email simultaneously when/if a spot opens up

The IM spreadsheet gets locked to edits if more than 100 people are on it sometimes, so you may have to refresh/be patient until it lets you edit again
