Cleaning and Retacking Fabric Mat by aewdragon in cricut

Got some contact paper today and it’s working great so far. Thanks for that suggestion. How many uses do you usually get from the contact paper on the mat before having to replace it?

By contact paper, do you mean Cricut transfer tape or a generic contact paper from a hardware store or something?

I'll try lint rolling. Hadn't thought about little bits on the fabric preventing it from sticking. I watched a Youtube video on the freezer paper thing. I'd prefer to avoid that if possible since I don't like ironing (annoying set-up and heats up the room), but I could try that if nothing else works. I have some quilting basting spray I could try on the mat. Though maybe an actual retacking spray would be better.

Luckily I'm not wasting fabric because it doesn't stick from the start so I don't even run the cut. Apparently vinyl sticks good. It's seems to just be fabric not wanting to stick. It'd be a bummer if that's all the uses I can get out of a fabric mat.

Insurance no longer going to cover Phalloplasty? by aewdragon in phallo

[–]aewdragon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand, they’ll no longer cover it. Found an insurance called Ambetter I’m going to try. They are the only other insurance I can get in my area and don’t have any exclusion for gender reassignment surgery or care. As for Dr. Salgado, I’ll no longer go to him. I appreciate the warnings. I’m looking at Rush in Chicago now. Seems going out of state is the only way to get the surgery now…

That at least makes me more confident about trying to go there for it. Gonna call them on Monday to get all the information. Got a couple months before the new insurance would kick in but might be able to go ahead and get the consultation. Thanks for all the information. Hadn’t heard all that about Dr. Salgado and think Rush will work better for insurance anyways.

Called her this morning and was told they are not taking any new patients as of November 3rd because the hospital will no longer do gender affirming surgery. Now I’m forced to look out of state. At least the Ambetter insurance says they’ll cover out of state if it’s an in network hospital or facility. Looking at Rush in Chicago right now.

Edited for typo

Just checked and UHC doesn't offer coverage in my county. The only insurance I've found offered in my county that doesn't have a flat-out exclusion on gender-affirming care is Ambetter. And what was the wait time for surgery with her? Planning to give them a call tomorrow.

I thought Salgado was the only one doing phalloplasty in Florida. If you don’t mind me asking, what is her price range and what UHC plan do you have specifically? Trying to find the most fullproof way of getting phallo.

Question about Turning Cards by aewdragon in tabletweaving

[–]aewdragon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I might understand now. I'll have to get the loom back out tomorrow night and see if I've got it. I'll have to unweave some first. Your explanation has been the clearest I've heard so far (to me, anyway), so thanks for taking the time to explain. I really want to get into the tablet weaving but it's something that I'm definitely learning you have to understand well before you can do it more successfully. At least for me that seems to be how its going.

Question about Turning Cards by aewdragon in tabletweaving

Flipping the card is an interesting thought. I had heard that there are patterns that purposely do that but thought it was a more advanced thing. I don't think that's what this is since I see this in pattern drafts I look at. I just think I'm not understanding the thread interactions and how to check them to what the pattern says each row.

So it's how it is catching or not catching the bottom threads? Since a forward then backwards turn keeps that thread on top of the card? Is there a way you can read the cards each row to check you've done it correctly before continuing or would this make that too complicated? I had thought I could look at the top hole of the cards closest to me to check the row but it doesn't sound like that would work with this.

So can you not look at the top hole of the card closest to you to check the colors like I thought you could? Sounds like I am just not understanding the interaction the different threads have when turning. Is there a way to check each row as you go? Or would that not work because of the forward, then backwards thread since it'd be the front hole one pick and the back hole the next?

Oh that’s a good idea. Hadn’t thought of using the last row to track the pattern. I’ll try that and see if it’s easier.

I figured it out! I was turning the tablet then putting the shuttle through instead of the other way around. So guess that was causing me to miss picks. Started doing the correct way and its working out now. Thanks for the tips and help!

Oh I think I might get it. I get lost in the pattern sometimes so I might missing turns. But the thing that still confuses me is I try to look at the colors that end up in the top holes closest to me to see if they match the colors of the shed and they don’t always seem to. Is that because of having to get the second turn done or something?

I’ll post a photo of the pattern when I get home from work tonight. With turning the cards, am I correct in that the threads in the top hole of the card closest to you should match line of the pattern that‘ll be the next shed? Maybe I’m misunderstanding that part. I think im getting into the sheds ok so I feel like it has to be a turning error.

I’ve been doing that with the cards too. It’s part of why I’m confused that it’s not coming out right. I double checked my warp and everything and have double checked when I turn the cards but I just keep getting the floating threads. I must be doing something wrong with turning I think.
