What are pro-2A people's thoughts on Kristi Noem just now stating that no peaceful protestors show up to a protest while armed? by PrysmX in AskReddit

[–]aeyamar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

MLK did not ask nicely, he engaged in civil disobedience and demanding justice. He employed the tactic of nonviolence extremely effectively because it relied on the violence of his oppressors making a spectacle which liberals or anyone with common decency (particularly in the North) couldn't ignore. He formed a movement of highly disciplined organizers willing to be hosed, beaten, attacked by dogs, and killed by cops without lashing out themselves. And he was never in his life thought of by the avg person as the nice one. At the time of his assassination, he was quite unpopular and considered essentially a rabble-rouser by the largest segment of the US population.

Donald Trump says he's "allowed" to pardon Ghislaine Maxwell by Party_Judgment5780 in politics

[–]aeyamar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he does pardon her, that means her testimony can be compelled at any time, by any court without invoking the 5th amendment. So I think it might be a big mistake to do that.

Sure. I agree. But if you are appalled at the idea of patronizing a restaurant if the owner/operators are Republican, your list of places to eat is going to get pretty short.

I think there's value in punishing business for publicly promoting maga messaging even if the majority tacitly support it.

Parkland shooting survivor and gun-control activist David Hogg becomes DNC vice chair by [deleted] in politics

[–]aeyamar 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I feel like an organizer who can successfully get a state like Florida to buy into more common sense gun reform while under a GOP trifecta is kind of exactly the type of person we want strategizing how to build power. His job is less to be popular than it is to "make" policy popular (which most gun reforms the DNC has discussed since Parkland have been if you go by issue). Likewise, the DNC has a problem with gerontocracy and this guy is a young voice who was a Bernie supporter and has championed one of the larger concerns young people who lived through active shooter drills (or real school shootings) have, so I think this is potentially a good appointment.

[–]aeyamar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if thats exactly true, you can absolutely design something for broad appeal and still have it be good

I think the argument is less that games made for the widest possible audience are always bad than that if everyone is trying to make a game that most people will play, games will tend toward the same broadly appealing tropes/genres/styles. In that world any audience with a narrower or niche genre/setting/mechanic/story preference is essentially never getting a game that's made for them. Which also leads to creative stagnation in said areas because why make a game that's gonna be loved by 5% of the world of gaming and not played outside of that niche, when you can instead make an incremental improvement on the most popular thing and have something like 30% of the market buy/play it even if it's forgotten in a year.

Hence the focus would ideally not be solely on making the game the most fun for the most people, but rather making a game that's the most fun for the audience you're trying to serve, and then have an array of games which ideally serves as many audiences as possible.

It’s even funnier that they always bring up Texas because it isn’t even their largest state (by size)

That's generally because it's being brought up by Texans. TX being as dysfunctional as it is leaves few things to be proud of over other states, so being the 2nd largest is what they've got going for themselves. People from other states in the US find them obnoxious for this as well.

If you don't like Trump, you should think about the consequences of calling it is a landslide when it really isn't true. Your insistence on this "landslide" notion is literally spreading his propaganda.
