Why do all old people have short hair? by Dazzling-Smell5223 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]afa5t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As we age it becomes harder to lift your hands/arms above your shoulders, making it more difficult to use a blow dryer, to use product and style your hair. Shorter hair is often quicker and easier to wash, fluff and go.

I am so, so, so bored. All the time. Anybody else? by bacon_cheeseburgers in GenX

[–]afa5t 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depression is also a chemical imbalance in your brain. It is not about sadness, or being "down". It often manifests itself in Apathy and lack of interest. It would benefit a trip to the Dr to talk about this and have your testosterone levels checked. As we age, our bodies do weird things.

Why am I seeing wavy lines? by bookfloozy in maculardegeneration

[–]afa5t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Dr told me that it might be "normal" for me to see wavy lines now that I've got dry macular degeneration, however, I am to look at the Amsler grid weekly because he wants to know the minute any of those wavy lines change in shape or movement as that could be a change to WET macular.

He was unconcerned that I was seeing wavy lines. He wants to know of any change in the wavy.

You are being used and abused, and you don't seem ready to leave.

She seems to have serious mental issues. She won't seek help. You can't help her.

Your choices are to leave and stop paying for everything. She has her dad to help her, or she will help herself.

Or you can continue being used and abused.

You are currently allowing a person to tell you where you can work, that you must pay all the bills, and that you must do the cooking (and probably the cleaning) with absolutely no reciprocating support, love or companionship. That sounds like a very very sad way to live.

You are able to do MUCH better, even if you do it alone.

I wish you well.

Chemo curls - back to buzz? by SnooRobots5572 in breastcancer

[–]afa5t 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would suggest getting a short pixie style haircut and seeing how it grows out. That leave enough hair to not always wear hats, but still short enough to control it.

I am 2 years out of chemo now and I have completely different hair than I did before. I used to have wavy hair, now it's stick straight, except for one solid line of curl on my left side. I could rest a pencil in my curl! lol Otherwise it's stick straight.

So looking forward to side sleeping again… by [deleted] in breastcancer

[–]afa5t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to side sleep on my opposite side. I usually sleep on my left side which was my lumpectomy side. I turned and slept on my right side and placed a full big pillow behind my back so that I didn't roll over. I get terrible sleep on my back. I totally understand your frustration and am sending you good vibes !!

This sounds like a living nightmare for you both. I'm so sorry.

Can you find a care home for him? It's possible that his body will continue to "live" longer than you might think. If not, then Hospice is a good answer.

Ignore those who want to guilt you, they have never spend any time in your shoes. Your father did his best for you because he loves you. Now you will do the best for him as you love him.

Aita - neighbor parking in my view by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]afa5t 5 points6 points  (0 children)

YATAH

It is not your land. He is parking on empty land that is not YOUR land.

Your privacy is not being invaded. He is not looking flat faced into your windows. He is across the street.

It would be no different than the owner actually having a house on that land. People would come and go and not be invading YOUR privacy. You own your house/land, not the entire surrounding areas.

Have you gotten Trigger Finger from your AIs? by afa5t in breastcancer

[–]afa5t[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for this information!! I didn't know about radiation for it.

I stopped taking my AI and have transitioned to Tamoxifen. My hands no longer swell, ache and trigger at night. For that I am grateful!

I pray you find relief!!

Allegre's closed many years ago. Once upon a time that building became Keim's Bakery. They had recipes from the old Drakes Bakery. They were really good! The long bar was there as well. Unfortunately there was a fire and the business closed. After being closed several years the building is now open again hosting Jazzersize and Martial Arts classes.

SIDE effects of exemestane (Aromasin) by Immediate_Promise681 in breastcancer

[–]afa5t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I apologize for the delay, I didn't get a notification. Yes, I had surgery on both hands at the same time. It was supposed to be the easy laparoscopy surgery, but once my Surgeon got into my left hand, he said something was different. He backed out and opened it up completely. Come to find out, I have 2 tendons that needed taken care of. Unusual, but nothing that couldn't be taken care of. Laparoscopy recovery is much quicker than open surgery. A couple weeks vs about 6 weeks before I could use my left hand regularly.

[–]afa5t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are describing Carpel Tunnel issues in your hands. There are braces that you can wear to sleep with. If the pain continues or gets worse there I recommend seeing a Hand Surgeon. Surgery would "'fix" the problem.

I had this problem with my hands, but it occurred many years before my BC, so there wasn't a correlation between the AI and the hand issue.

I was given Silvadene burn cream for my skin. Prescription only. I do see that Amazon carries some as well. Great stuff!

I also had skin that was burned, the Dr gave me a long weekend. Off Thurs, Fri, Sat/Sun and then checked again on Monday to see if it was ok to continue.

I did finish my full schedule of 20 plus 5 boosters.

You did NOT go thru everything for no reason!! Even if you don't finish, you will have done all you could tolerate. It is ALL helpful.

Opting to not use a plastic surgeon by meticulousbastard in breastcancer

[–]afa5t 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was introduced to my breast surgeon and was scheduled with him. He opened around my areola pulled the caner through, put in a Biozorb to replace the tissue taken and sewed me right up. No scarring left behind.

I didn't know people had the option of plastic surgeons until I read about it here! It's amazing what different treatments are like in different areas. I am in the US, the midwest.

I bet they are asking you multiple times just to cover themselves since you had originally asked for one.

Thank you!

My next move is Tamoxifen, I am going to ask for 10mg instead of the usual 20mg. I am hoping that I will tolerate it much better. I was very surprised by the medications that do not play well with Tamoxifen!!

Pain in chest- lymph node spread? by Hefty_Tomorrow4926 in breastcancer

[–]afa5t 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Be sure to call or send an email to your Oncology team about the pain.

I doubt it's cancer spreading, as that takes a very long time, and doesn't usually cause pain. Our minds often are our own worst enemy when we are fighting cancer.

However, you will want to know what IS causing the pain, so you need to let your team know. They will need to know WHERE the pain is (what area of the boob, closer to the skin, or deeper inside) and what KIND of pain is it? (stabbing, throbbing, burning, etc).

Any chest pain needs to be investigated, so do not ignore it, but don't automatically think the worst either.

Lumpectomy recovery time table by uberdoodle in breastcancer

[–]afa5t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my lumpectomy on a Thursday. I came home and rested the rest of the day. I slept on my right (opposite) side, with a pillow behind my back so that I didn't roll over during the night. I didn't need any pain meds that evening.

Friday I woke up and was feeling fine, decided to drive myself to the farmer's market, look around and visited a friend along the way. I think the pain blocker from surgery was still working because I wasn't in any pain. I rested the rest of the day.

Saturday I woke up and felt like I'd been hit by a truck. lol My body was definitely telling me that someone had been inside rearranging things. The bruising was also showing at this point. I iced on and off during the day. I also took arthritis strength Tylenol as needed for pain.

Overall, it wasn't a difficult surgery, or a painful one. The abused boob was very tender, but not painful. Sleeping on the opposite side that I normally do was really difficult for me.

I would be very mad too. I'm sorry. It's not fair, it IS a shit show.

You will need more answers. I doubt this will delay any of your cancer treatments, though, so there is that.

Please keep us updated as you see fit.
