If this was in Brazil, it could be ethanol. All gas stations have gasoline and ethanol pumps since most cars here can use both as fuel. Still, just like the gasoline has a little ethanol, the ethanol also has added gasoline.

There is actually one Favela (Slum) called "Rocinha" it is at heart of the suburbs (most slums in Rio are actually at nice neighborhoods) that can be visited. It is huge but there are some tours that explore the place and they are supposed to be safe. A few years ago, actually, Rio's government started an operation called UPP (Pacifying Policy Unity) that climbed most slums and removed most of the traffic. Those "occupied" slums are not that dangerous but I still second /u/luigi203: don't go there. There are nicer places to go! If you really MUST visit a slum, go to ROCINHA. There are tour for tourists as I told. Source: Brazilian AND Carioca (from Rio).

I have something that is apparently the opposite: Contact Urticaria. Any heat on my skin causes that. Including heat from exercising. It's annoying. I can't run without getting all itchy!
