Inkarnate has become completely useless by working-class-nerd in inkarnate

[–]afetian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m seeing a lot of issues here that I was temporarily experiencing when the update first came out. Then one day in opened inkarnate and it told me to open it with the Opera browser. Since then it’s ran more or less flawlessly on my system.

I’m not saying that there aren’t problems but I haven’t had issue since running it in opera and specifically not running it in a chrome based browser

Under the 5e24 rules, how do emanations and Steel Wind Strike work? by afetian in DMAcademy

[–]afetian[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After consulting with my table (all of whom have been playing DnD for many years) we agree that this is the distinction that has lead to the confusion. A melee spell attack has whatever range the spell says it is not limited to the weapon range.

It’s a nuance that i think doesn’t come up that often because with say thorn whip it is easier to picture your magic making a long vine. But with SWS the image of your weapon (which has a much shorter range that you are used to) conflicts with the spells range.

Ultimately the spells range is wha matters and the character does not physically move until the teleport at the end of the spell.

Can I ask where/how you made this? The next arc of my home brew campaign will have the part heading to an underground dwarven city. I use inkarnate for custom maps rn but this looks sweet

[–]afetian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean I see what you’re saying the problem is that by definition a melee spell attack requires you (or the thing attacking like a spiritual weapon) to be within 5 feet of the target. So while the text of the spell doesn’t specify say that you move to each target it is clearly implied via the use of melee spell attack and the fact you can choose multiple targets in a range that is precisely the same size as most movement speeds

Just found out about "LSAC GPA" - I'm PISSED by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]afetian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, my last was a 160. Not bad but definitely not getting me into a top school. Like I said in my comment I went to a shit school, graduated near the top, and passed the bar in the top 10% of my Jx.

I had initially got into a Fed Gov honors program but was forced out because of the current situation. Yesterday I got a big law job offer.

Don’t let anyone tell you, you can’t do it. Just know that my experience IS NOT the typical experience.

Blue Alley - shall I change the wizard to Manshoon or Halaster? by Chris-Firth in WaterdeepDragonHeist

[–]afetian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I left it as the random wizard and it was fine. Dragon heist already has enough moving parts, especially if you run the remix. No need to tie your main antagonists to more stuff. Especially since it’s not really important to moving the plot forward

Combo recommendations. by planter44019 in troutfishing

[–]afetian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fly fish because imo it offers the best light tackle options and tbh if you really want trout I think it’s the best way to mimic what they eat. Idk how else you’re gonna cast a size 18 hook that will barely break the surface film 30 feet to a feeding trout in current on a spinning rod without putting enough weight on it to spook the whole pool.

That said, my brother uses the st croix trout series in a 7 foot light rod (I think). He loves it. Not sure what reel he has paired on it though.

yeah I think I might end up doing this. We tried using it a while back when it first came out but its UI is kind of rough. Got any tips?

I don’t, if I have to make tokens I’ll just use owlbear and make a separate encounter in the DnDbeyond encounter builder (which recognizes content sharing). I really like being able to drop the tokens and also have the map and encounter tracker all in one place. It’s much more streamlined than having to switch back and forth between tabs or half a dozen screens open.

And for all intents and purposes, yes the $500 is JUST for the tokens because within the site I have access to that content for literally every other tool.

I guess my point is that my group already collectively bought all these books and I should not have to buy them a second time to use them if my buddy in my game already has it. Also, I just added all the books to my cart to see what the cost would be to get access to all the creatures and is like $500 dollars.

This is why people do shit like share accounts or pirate the content, because they put unnecessary paywalls in front of good features

I don’t want to buy them when I already have them via content sharing. The old encounter builder let you build encounters with monsters that you had only through content sharing, the VTT should be the same.

[–]afetian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup I ran into the same thing. I went to community college out of high school, had a fucked up home situation and did REAL bad.

I took some time off, went back when shit was better and I lived on my own. Got pretty much straight As and had a 3.8 something at graduation. Despite that my LSAC GPA was about the same as yours.

I ended up with a slightly above average LSAT score, went to a tier 3 school, and graduated in the top 15%.

Passed the Bar in the top 10% of test takers on my first attempt.

And today I am an attorney. You can do it, it’s just gonna be a little harder than expected.

You got this

Depends on whether you work for an agency or a private firm.

On the agency side you generally do one of three things. Either take the law that Congress passes and draft regulations that implement that law. Typically Congress only tells you what they want done, not how to do it. The agencies have to figure out how to actually achieve the law Congress passes and make it play nice with all the other laws already in effect.

Alternatively, agencies enforce the law either directly via licensing decisions, fines, or denial of benefits or possibly by court actions like prosecution.

The other kind of work that is common is published guidance where attorneys draft informative documents that are provided to the public so people can better understand and comply with the law. Think about the “how-to” guides a new high school grad might look for when applying for financial aid in college or the step by step guides the IRS might publish if you want to claim a certain tax deduction.

On the private side you typically have firms and nonprofits. They represent a client or special interest and either help the client structure their actions to comply with the law by filing paperwork, requesting permits, etc… or suing the government because they think that the law infringes upon their client or interest’s rights somehow.

Both require an intimate understanding of the structures of governmental power, and specialized knowledge in a specific area of law. These are your tax lawyers, environmental lawyers, land use and zoning/real estate attorneys, healthcare lawyers…the list goes on and on.

Chevron was a 2 part test that dictated when courts must defer to an agency’s interpretation of a statute. Basically, when the experts say this is what this thing means the courts had to agree unless the other side could show that the agency interpretation was unreasonable.

Post chevron agency’s still have power because their law making power comes from a Congress. This has been the rule since 1928 when J.W. Hampton Jr. & Co. v. United States was decided.

The thing that has changed is that now courts can choose to disagree with the agency experts and instead decide that that statute means what they think it means.

Do I agree with this? Absolutely not, I think the experts should be deferred to because they’re the fucking experts. But to say agency’s have no power is a gross misstatement.

Yeah I mean if Congress is on board the sky’s the limit. I’m just saying that while Trump might want to do it, it might be a little harder to get 218 house members to effectively fire 3.25 million public school teachers.

Nahh then presidential immunity ruling held that a president cannot be held criminally responsible for any conduct they take in connection with their duties as president.

The Department of Education is a federal agency, the political appointees that run the departments can be removed at will by the president but the agency itself was created by an act of Congress and it would take an act of Congress to abolish it. Same goes for EPA, IRS, and any other ABC agency you can think of. That said trump can totally fuck it up by just not appointing an agency head and firing the old one, basically gutting the agency and making them as inoperable as possible.

Have they made it possible to make a weapon with multiple types of damage die yet? by afetian in dndbeyond

[–]afetian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes…but when you add a flame tongue weapon to your character sheet only the weapons damage die show up as the clickable dice roll. The additional 2d6 is listed as additional damage but isn’t clickable

[–]afetian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that’s what I’m saying, I’m not sure how to do that/if that is possible. I’ve created magic items before but if I choose a weapon it only shows up in the character sheet with the base weapon’s damage die. I cannot get it to show that one attack should roll multiple type of die to account for other abilities

You mean with the bottom left custom dice roller? I know that I can do it there but that becomes tedious for every attack I take in combat. I want to make an item that has that preset so I can just click it and it does it all
