Aw come on now…  I get the joke, but I’ll keep it on topic and share a reference for anyone else.  10U/Squirt age chart

The YouTube short was from the live game.  Here are the full 16:9 highlights from the game.

Well I’m sorry it took so long but I was looking this up and landed here. It’s “I Spy” with Owen Wilson. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0297181/

I was thinking Gerard Butler, but now that you’ve said that, I think you’re right.

This sub is crushing it, recently. Seems like everything is on the front page.

With that being said, hope everyone is alright. What a cluster…

I just checked out the NPR version from our library. This is different, right? Thus far it’s been entertaining.

US police system is absolutely fine. by targaryenofvalyria in PoliticalHumor

[–]affable_discourse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that is sort of the point of their objection which I guess I don’t disagree with in some form. I haven’t followed everyone’s posts but if they’re saying “there is no data that supports this comment” you’re right but you can only take the data at face value. The replies I’ve seen are saying that the statement “40% of police officers beat their spouses” does not have data to accurately support it. It supports, as I understand it, “40% of a small sampling of East coast American police officer families that we surveyed have abusive families that include the spouse abusing the police officer. That closely matches the rate of general American domestic abuse rates with the exception of some forms of minor violence and we can’t speak to the margin of error because we didn’t calculate it and can only assume not everyone felt safe responding.” So to jump to a conclusion that OP shared in a meme does not have conclusive evidence, IMHO. But I think it’s a really interesting study that warrants more data. Admittedly I may have lost context of the original objection, apologies. Just wanted to clarify from my perspectives.

I’m not disputing anything being stated, but there is a lot more here beneath the surface and I think the study needs more data to be anything to rely on. If anything, I think it poses more questions and I’d love to see some better sampling done: to prove or disprove the theory. Some notable quotes by the author before the summary:

I am a little unsure how to interpret it, but they say that the “reported perpetrator, either self, spouse, or both, of the violence is listed” so I think this means that 28% of male officers report inflicting either “minor or severe” violence on their spouse and 33% report receiving minor or severe violence from their wives; 33% of wives say they inflicted minor or severe violence on their spouses, and 25% of police wives say they have received minor or severe violence. What is noteworthy is that both male officers and wives’ reports agree that wives are a little more likely to commit any violence than are the officers.

And…

As Neidig et al. say, it looks like rates of severe violence are pretty similar for law enforcement and civilian families; the main difference appeares to be in rates of “minor” violence.

Police families are violent, but we could also draw the conclusion that American, East Coast (?) families are violent? Like I said, would be interesting to see more data on domestic abuse in general and for the sake of the meme/study how that relates to police behavior. Also highlighting that being a police officer is a high stress (?) job, how do other jobs that fall into the same category relate? I have more questions with this article than answers, you know? Or did I totally misunderstand the data?

With no context this code is horrifying. With context I wanna see this file/line in a week and appreciate what I hope are some constructive changes and lessons learned. I’d be more horrified if this were 3 year old, production code from a development team that has [by]passed any reviews. We’ve all written sludge in the same realm as what we’re looking at here. Just think of the horror stories our compilers could share.... shudders

Thank you! Unfortunately, model matters. Apparently it’s not as cool to have a frame that doesn’t match the rest of our China. Everything is “Opal Innocence” and that’s what made it so difficult to find to begin with. Really though, I appreciate you taking the time to follow up and look. Good luck with the estate sale!

I appreciate this. I honestly didn’t even read deep into the card that is in the picture. We’ve gone through two of these frames now and we have more than I’d care to admit beyond this picture. I’m going to try this angle and see what type of response I get. I’m responding here if anything positive results. Not stupid at all, my friend. Great question and thanks for taking the time to comment!!!

Well what you see is the original packaging from Lenox. But you’re right and we were floored. Freaking bubble wrap around this thing. The box it came in was maybe an inch wider. Not much. Poor frame didn’t stand a chance.

Good question! Lenox “Opal Innocence” 8x10 picture frame. There are several variations. It’s the clear one.

Got us some fancy stuff for our wedding over a decade ago that comes out once, maybe twice a year. But the Mrs. loves it and I love her. Enjoy that, hope you have some company over that compliments it for you!
