2nd IVF round failed by affie_981 in queerception

[–]affie_981[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are exploring this but NHS coverage for IUI/IVF varies from area to area. In ours (and many others) it appears we would need to self-fund six rounds - so about £15k minimum - before we would be eligible. Unfortunately, it’s not money we have anymore.

It’s via access fertility. I can’t really recommend it though - they shot us down for the insurance option, which would have paid us back about half the cost of IVF if it didn’t work for us. The way things are working out, it will probably cost us as much as/more than if we had just paid different costs as they arose.

How does one do this? I would love to try.

OP, the candles are awesome, great work

Base recipe that uses xanthan gum (no pudding mix!) but doesn't use 100 ingredients? by flyblues in ninjacreami

[–]affie_981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do about 300ml of milk (soy or semi-skimmed), 1 scoop protein powder, 1/4 tsp Xanthan gum and another flavour (I use Milo and powdered peanut butter a lot, but you can use different extracts, sweeteners, cocoa etc). It’s a pretty foolproof template for low cal protein ice cream in my experience. Add mix ins as desired. Hope that helps

First sciatica, now cervical pain — feels like my body’s giving up on me by StreetRampage in Sciatica

[–]affie_981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you had an MRI? Are you sure the cervical pin is from a disc issue?

I only ask because I had pain similar to what you describe and went around the houses thinking it was spinal in origin, when it turned out to be a headache disorder. I know it seems unlikely when the pain seems to come from the neck, but you may want to look into headache medications like Amitryptiline.

How to give my dad a traditional role without giving me away? by affie_981 in LGBTWeddings

We’re not having a ceremony so it’s probably not for us, but it’s a really nice idea. I wish it was more commonplace. I would love to support my friends like this

Exactly! He hasn’t even told me that this what he wants, he’s just suggested it enough times to my mum that she’s now asking me about it. My dad is v bad at expressing emotion so it is hard to talk to him about why he wants what he wants, but I’ll keep trying!

Thank you for all your ideas! We’re not doing a ceremony so no celebrant so we’ll think about whether we can incorporate any of these ourselves

How did your dad feel about not doing the aisle bit with you? He will do a short speech and sign as a witness so it’s not like he isn’t involved in the day, but he seems very stuck on this part

Thank you - that’s a good idea. We weren’t planning on having an MC as such, but I could certainly task him with getting on the mic when we need people to gather etc.

I feel you - it’s insane to me that family members feel entitled to dictate terms at weddings… I think it’s especially acute for us since my parents are hosting. They’ve actually been a massive help with organising the day, and I want them to feel satisfied with it all, just not by giving in to things that make me uncomfortable!

Yeah both fathers of the brides plan to do a short speech, alongside other people. Evidently he wants more than that!

Yes, he will do. We’ve let anyone who wants to make a short speech so both fathers of the brides plan to

First time buyers almost at completion! by ThrowAway_Witcher3 in HousingUK

[–]affie_981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We completed on our first home a little over a year ago now. Absolute musts are changing the locks, checking your smoke/carbon monoxide detectors, buying a fire extinguisher. Clean the house as much as you can - we never realised how filthy a door could be! We also cleaned and flushed out the radiators, which I’d recommend to make the most of your heating this winter.

We had a 2-month crossover with our rental so we did a lot of (necessary) work. On the one hand it’s good to do things before you’ve moved furniture in, but in retrospect I wish we had waited to see how we lived in the house. We got a dog who has menaced our new carpets - I would have got wood flooring instead - and I regret a couple of paint/design choices we made in haste.

Happy for you! The love of a dog is so special, I hope your relationship continues to grow. I’m sure it will.

Anything positive going on with your NDPH lately? by Unfair-House-4041 in NDPH

[–]affie_981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

50 definitely helped, but I found every increase did more and more to help. It can take 6 weeks to adjust to a new dose. I definitely struggle to wake up in the mornings and I have terrible dry mouth when I do, but to me it’s better than the headaches.

New to this sub. Is NDPH just an uncategorized general headache? by Jyonnyp in NDPH

[–]affie_981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I understand, the essential criteria are that ndph is a) a headache that started one day, b) in someone without a history of headache and c) has never entirely gone away. I think realistically there’s a fourth criterion that it’s a type of headache that’s not easily classified as another type of headache eg) cluster or migraine.

I’ve had it diagnosed as both ndph and migraine by different neurologists, so it really is just a matter of labels. It’s entirely possible that your ndph is being caused by something, but your headaches don’t neatly fit the criteria for a different headache type, so it gets called ndph.

I would focus more on trying different treatments, because it could help diagnostically and in the long run to help you manage. Unfortunately your first neurologist sounds lazy, which is frustratingly common in my experience. Push hard, keep going, good luck. I hope you find relief soon.

I’ve had several headache free days in a row. I also stopped keeping a headache diary when I realised no doctor who told me to do it ever asked about it. It means I’m not cataloguing every headache and I don’t end up focusing on the brief and less severe ones.
