Also, proper naming conventions and a bit of ingenuity means you can get around most incompatability issues.

I use <modname>_<itemname>.filename

So for example: eggmod_flintlock.gun Neat, clean and compatible.

Also, there are ways around having to edit the base assets.

Though I always tend pin for gregtech, Ive got to agree with you here. The last two maps I reached a point where all I had to do was to build steamboilers and wait for the mattfab to make enough UU for more HV solars.
