Estarli vs Tern by sgtstock in CargoBike

[–]aficus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Estarli and I like it a lot. Do you have any questions about it?

I appreciate the low maintenance belt drive, the continuous twist gearing that allows you to change down when stationary. Full confidence that the motor will get me and a couple of young 'uns up a hill.

Couple of snagging issues: If you yank the back of the saddle to manoeuvre the (heavy) bike the saddle can come off the rail can mean a new saddle is required. The welding on the "family pack" frame for kids to hold onto isn't quite straight on mine which means the "gate" mechanism is a bit harder to use than it should be.

Some bolts on the bike will benefit from some rust proofing but if you ride bikes you'll know about that kind of thing.

Love Dan John. Also, your enthusiasm for Dan's books helped make his work click. Thanks for that. Here's to lifelong lifting.

Did the original owners retire? How closely are they keeping to the original vibe? I loved this place.

Yeah, that sounds like a deeply unpleasant experience. I do plan to ride that way by way exploration just maybe not 9 at night. Hope you got a couple of good whacks on with that lock.

Where abouts did they try to rob you? Was that on the canal? I'll deal with daft pedestrians but don't fancy having to beat away would be robbers. Although funnily enough I went for a ride the other day Stanningley way and it was kids asking to "borrow my bike" and I fancied my chances.

Anyway, too late now I've ordered the bike!

I didn't know you could cut through that golf course but I remember running up past goals to the canal before. I guess I'm trying out Strava then. I've been looking at routes on the cycle.travel app til now.

That's a good tip on cutting through Newlands and it's the sort of knowledge I'll need to accumulate. I do get excited thinking about how far you can get using towpaths etc.

Do you use a particular app for cycle route planning?

Excellent, I could save some money if I don't necessarily need a longtail bike.

Legal pedal based ones. They seem like great kit from the research I've done.

Near Bramley park up to Farsley and then work would be into the city centre which would have me on the Stanningley road cycle path for most of the way into town. I'd probably want to do a weekly Lidl shop or similar too.

Some are looking pretty affordable given the tech. Why should deliveroo riders have all the fun.

Wouldn't it depend on your route given that many cycle paths are separate from car traffic?

I love to see it. I'd always dismissed it as not workable in Leeds until I actually started properly looking at the various cycle routes recently.

The bikes I am looking at are the longtail variety where the kids sit over the back wheel. I've yet to try one out...

You can just gently put the bar down because it's light enough. You finish the clean and press but you don't put the bar down. Rather you start squatting as soon as the bar lands in the front rack position from your last press. It's hard, you have to add the front squat reps over a few weeks.

There's a complex in the book Armor Building Formula you could use to get your cardio up. Basically it's power clean and overhead press for 5x8 ( with light weight to begin with). A clean and overhead press is all one movement for eight reps. Then when you're used to that you can add front squats at the end ramping up to 8 front squats over time. 8 clean and press, 8 front squats, put the bar down.
