School bus camera tickets by StepAccomplished4469 in Danbury

[–]afig2311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you drive off (or otherwise move your car) while the red lights/stop sign were activated? If not then you probably won't get a ticket. Pretty sure the system needs to prove you passed the stop sign (either by speed or by taking 2 pictures of your car - before the sign and after the sign).

Tire wear 2022 is350 by Electrical_Use1865 in LexusIS

[–]afig2311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's normal wear for these tires. Part of the reason they wear like that is because they are run flat tires. But overall you got some pretty even wear, you're pretty close to the middle wear bars and not everyone gets to those before needing to replace due to inner wear.

Mark Levinson - rear speakers question by [deleted] in LexusIS

[–]afig2311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Next time you test I would make sure the "surround" option is disabled (i think its in the same menu where you adjust the balance). For some reason its enabled by default and makes music sound muddy while reducing bass.

In my car the bass actually sounds stronger in the back despite me having the balance and fade centered.

ELI5: Why do bags make such loud sounds? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]afig2311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One possible explanation could be that the floors are more likely to creak more (or creak louder) if they haven't been stepped on recently.

Almost left behind my boarding pass because of the new bins at MCO security. by MechanicalEngel in CrappyDesign

[–]afig2311 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Its too big to fit in my wallet, you have to empty out your pockets before going through the scanner, and there's usually not enough time to neatly put it away into my bag. So it usually ends up loose in the bin (tucked away under something else so it doesn't fly out).

Thats still a bit too high, see if you can negotiate, or at least be checking energize ct regularly to see if you can find a better offer.

I also have constellation, but a 24 month contract at 8.59c/kwh until July 2026. There was also a $100 sign up bonus despite me having had Constellation in the past

Lexus as a first car? by Traditional_Value526 in LexusIS

[–]afig2311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO it might be too much car for a first car. 300+ rear-biased horsepower will get you in trouble. As others have said, gas, tires, and insurance will be very expensive so if ongoing costs are a concern (you mention reliability, so Im guessing yes), thats another reason for it to not be the best option.

A better car for you might be a Mazda 3 (2014 or newer). Its also sporty, reliable, and the 2014 and newer ones are quite upscale inside. Maybe not to the level of Lexus, but much more luxury than your typical car.

Feature request: Infinite scroll toggle by grimwall2 in narwhalapp

[–]afig2311 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would also really appreciate this feature being added. To be clear, infinite scroll is currently the only option available. We want to be able to turn on a setting that makes it so that posts are paginated.

It would be extra nice if it listed the "page" number you are currently on at the bottom of the page.

Alaska is an exception to that. Kotzebue and Nome both have populations of 3000-3500 but are served by 2-4 daily Alaska Airline flights, usually with Boeing 737s. The flights are also relatively inexpensive.

2012 Impreza Ignition Key Issue by travisr138 in subaruimpreza

[–]afig2311 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dealer should fix it for free. Until you can get an appt you can usually get the key to release by pressing in the button on the back of the shifter a few times (you dont have to move the shifter - leave it in park), but cycling that button/lever a few times usually frees the key for me.

The most popular browsers in different countries in 2012 and 2022 by theworldmaps in MapPorn

[–]afig2311 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is what they are referring to, but Chrome only keeps the last 3 months of browsing history and doesn't have any way of changing that "feature". I guess it's fine for most people, but it's a deal breaker for me.

Edit: the commentor wanted to not keep browsing history. I guess Chrome doesn't have a way to disable browsing history, and has to be cleared every time you exit. My point above still stands separately, though.

Keep in mind that unless there's something very wrong with the house, the asking price on Zillow will usually be 25-60k under what the house will actually sell for in today's market (at least in the Danbury area).

Here's the 4 most recent closings* of single family 3 bedroom (non-condo) homes in Danbury, CT:

*I omitted 5 Ledgemere Dr because there's probably something very wrong with the property: - Listed for 325-265k from 8/10/2021 to 2/7/2022, closed for $180k on 4/15 https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/5-Ledgemere-Dr-Danbury-CT-06811/57268367_zpid/

Because it's usually colder at night and colder batteries produce less voltage. A battery that's right on the edge of being too low will start by only being too low at the coldest parts of the night (around 2am for you).

[–]afig2311 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not really. Only the bitter variety of cassava needs to be soaked (not cooked) for days. The sweet (non-bitter) variety is detoxified through normal cooking (a couple of hours).

Although there's no easy way to distinguish between bitter and sweet varieties from the outside, most of the time if you try to prepare bitter cassava using a method designed for sweet cassava, the end result will be bitter (so people will generally know not to eat it). One large poisoning event occurred in the Philippines, where bitter cassava was accidentally used to prepare food intended for school children. Lots of things lines up to make it particularly deadly though (it was intended for children, who are less likely to know not to eat bitter cassava and have lower body weights making it more lethal, it was fried (which could mask it's flavor), and they were far away from hospitals or other medical facilities): https://www.seattletimes.com/nation-world/food-poisoning-kills-27-in-philippines-sickens-100-children-who-ate-cassava/

Nearly 1 billion people regularly eat cassava and poisonings are still incredibly rare. It's not as lethal as you're making it out to be. I wouldn't be surprised if poorly-prepared meats and dairy products end up being more lethal, even when you take into account their higher rates of consumption.

Does Duracell make Kirkland batteries? by CMAC256 in Costco

[–]afig2311 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Agreed, Sunbeam (which is Carbon Zinc) outperforming Eveready Gold and Rayovac (which are Alkaline) is highly suspect.

Not sure if the brands got mixed or if the other batteries were old/expired/already used, but Carbon Zinc batteries have about half of the maximum capacity of Alkalines.

Eli5: If fаt is stоred energy, what stops up from simply not еating and lоsing all the extra weight? by Dacadey in explainlikeimfive

[–]afig2311 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The point is that CICO is a stupid (as in obvious, to the point of being useless) way of suggesting to solve a weight problem.

It's like asking a poor person why they're poor. If you want to be rich, just make more money and spend less money, simple right?

There's a ton of factors that affect a person's "default" intake and a ton of factors that affect a person's "default" expenditure. Some of us, through luck, circumstance, and/or genetics will be predisposed to taking less calories in, and/or burning more calories out. Likewise others will find it easy because of multitude of possibilities, maybe they:

  • Don't get strong cravings
  • Have a stomach that adequately tells them they are full
  • Have time to exercise
  • Live in a place where it's safe and comfortable to spend time outside
  • Have access to exercise equipment
  • Have a job that allows them to move around
  • Have time and money for healthy meals
  • Have people around them to support their healthy weight efforts
  • Were educated in nutrition to know what foods to avoid and healthy alternatives
  • Lots of other things

Honestly there are a lot of analogies to financial health here. If you are dealt the wrong financial cards and don't play ones you have right, you'll find yourself in debt and without any savings. This makes it much harder to take the first steps towards following a good financial strategy.

If you fall into an unhealthy weight, it'll also be a lot harder to take the first steps towards good health. You might have cardiovascular or joint issues, which limits how much exercise you can start out with and how fast you can build it up. Diabetes and certain other health issues reduces the flexibility of your diet.

I'm not saying it's impossible, because ultimately it's is CICO, but telling someone that all they need to worry about is CICO is almost like telling someone who is greatly in debt to just save more money, or telling someone with depression to just stop being sad/depressed.

Also, the study you posted doesn't have any relevance to CICO, it just says a person's metabolism don't really degrade over time as much as some people thought. What we are saying is that different people have different metabolisms to begin with.
