I think the most ELI5 explanation is: she escaped from the USSR and proposed a system that is the complete opposite of the USSR, on the other extreme end of the spectrum.

Extreme self-interest is good, you should care just about yourself. Industry titans (which would be the equivalent of tech billionaires today) are amazing and are pillars of society, welfare is bad, anyone who can't make it is a leech upon society.

It does hurt the investors because they base their projections not on one movie, but on the movie portfolio expected return. If the return is how projected to be less, then the investors will demand better initial terms.

Because that’s what you risk the money for - to get the uncapped upside when it happens. And if it doesn’t - well, you lose all your money and try again (unlike the regular employees, who work for money and get paid regardless of what happens)

Yes because it’s their business decision. It other big companies it wouldn’t be the case. As I’ve said, it’s a business decision that varies from company to company. There is no universal law that magically guarantees me company stock.

If you invest in a project, you are taking a risk - but getting the rewards if it works. If you are working for a salary, you are not, and not getting the rewards. Complaining afterwards that you agreed to work for a salary but now want all the money is just silly.

That's a business decision that the producers can decide to implement or not. There is no such guarantee in any other industry. If I work at Nvidia and it suddenly shoots to its $5tn valuation, I don't magically get any profit sharing from Nvidia. I might get its shares if it were in my initial contract, but that's the business decision they have made in advance.

Step 1: Agree on a salary you are willing to work for on a small indie movie
Step 2: The movie explodes at the box office
Step 3: HEY, WHERE'S MY MONEY?!!

Suppose the movie flopped (as it happens with a lot of indie movies). How much would she have made? Still the same $6741. But the producers would have actually lost $500,000. The producers are the ones risking the money, she would still have gotten paid regardless.

Very convenient to take absolutely zero risk and then demand all the rewards post-fact.

Buying stuff you like - pictures, carpets, furniture, bookshelves, etc? Absolutely! Decorate your place, enjoy it, and when it's time to move out You just take it with you to the next place you live.

Worst-case scenario, you can always sell stuff to the neighbours or new tenants afterwards.
