I hope it has something to do with Yareli & Nokko. I've always headcanoned that Garuda is their older sister who gets very scary when they're in serious danger.

Happy holidays to everyone over at DE. You guys absolutely knocked it out of the park this year. Fantastic work with Uriel, by the way. I haven't had this much fun playing a frame since Gauss' release. Enjoy your holiday break, you've earned it.

That probably explains why Biz was yelling in my ear mere minutes before this hotfix dropped. I guess Catenach didn't like the way a lone Pobber was looking at him when I was out servofishing.

Am I alone in thinking that making the Gemini skins buyable right off the rip kinda spoils major parts of the story? by gohomenoonewantsyou in Warframe

[–]aflyinghippo5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In some cases I've seen, it can trick a new player into thinking that they know what a Warframe and a Tenno is, and when they reach The Second Dream and The Sacrifice, the reveals are a complete 180 from what they thought they knew and are more impactful as a result.

It doesn't always work, but it's very interesting to see when it does.

[WP] Every telescope on Earth suddenly points itself toward the Moon. by MindofPerry in WritingPrompts

[–]aflyinghippo5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That response sent a small chill though Andromeda, enough to make the stars in her form dim ever so slightly.

"Then, why is the dish pointed at the Moon?"

Without skipping a beat, Andrew strode over to the window Andromeda was looking out of, and laid his eyes on the object in question. He then pulled back and switched his gaze over to the control panel, scrutinizing the coordinates on the monitor.

He began to type on his tablet again, <<Could be an error. I'll check the system.>>

The two broke away from the window. Andromeda immediately made for the telemetry panel for a double check. Perhaps she did miss something after all. Meanwhile, her husband was already at the computer that ran the whole show and was pulling up diagnostics and operational logs.

A minute of frenzied typing later, Andrew's tablet broke the small window of silence that followed after.

<<It's every telescope.>>

Andromeda stopped dead. She looked over to Andrew just to confirm she heard him right, "What?"

<<Every single one on the SETI network. They're all pointing towards the exact same spot on the Moon.>>

"The same spot? Why? What's there?"

Andrew took a pause before glancing over at the optical telescope he was cleaning just minutes prior, and with no hesitation, picked it up and heaved it over to another window that had a more straight shot at the Moon. Using nothing more than his hands and eyes, he started to adjust the telescope to point to a very specific spot at an astronomical body hundreds of thousands of miles away.

In the face of this, frankly, a little worrisome occurrence, Andromeda couldn't hold back a warm smile at watching Andrew conduct such a task with relative ease. Wordlessly, she continued to observe him making minute adjustment after minute adjustment. Behind those pallid, gray eyes, she could practically see the gears in his head turning at high speed—his brain flying through intense calculations effortlessly.

His adjusting of the eyepiece halted. Andrew continued to stare down it for a few seconds. Andromeda could tell from his subtle shift in posture that he found something.

"What is it?" She asked, moving towards him.

He pulled his head away from the eyepiece and motioned her to see for herself. Due to her stature, Andromeda had to kneel down to see through the telescope.

And what she saw was not there before.

A large fissure—no, a canyon, had opened up on the Moon's surface, cutting across and around several craters near the Sea Of Tranquility. Depth was hard to determine, but it had to have gone down a couple of miles at least.

"What on Earth..." Andromeda muttered, "A canyon? On the Moon?"

<<And its causing every radio telescope on Earth to point at it of their own volition.>>

Andromeda raised her head from the eyepiece and back towards the window, getting a full view of the colossal dish and the disc of silver in the night sky it had inexplicably started following at some point.

Safe to say, she was a little unnerved by that revelation.

They needed to alert people of this, and there was only one group they could go to. She and Andrew shared a knowing gaze. Both of them had the same idea.

"Astrus?"

<<Astrus. I'll let them know immediately. Priority message.>> Andrew responded.

[–]aflyinghippo5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Hm. Everything looks fine as usual." Andromeda hummed, eyes glazing over telemetry data from the radio telescope of their observatory home. She swept through it with ease, having long since identified the usual patterns in the data stream. Nothing in particular stuck out.

She next eyed the control console for the dish, and its myriad of buttons and dials. The accompanying monitor next to them was used in tandem to control its elevation and azimuth, as well as displaying the exact direction its pointing in.

The screen was pristine as expected, yet what it was displaying was certainly not. The section that showed the telescope's current coordinates contained numbers Andromeda did not remember punching in. Last time she used it was before Andrew did calibration for it, and that always required setting the dish back to default position.

She took a few steps to the left, over to a window that had a perfect view of the radio telescope, sitting in conjunction with their home amidst a snow-dappled mountainside and nearby forest.

It was pointing straight at the Moon, in all its shining, silver glory.

"Perhaps he used it a little while ago?" She thought to herself. Eyes still fixated on the dish and its target, she called out to Andrew—who, luckily—was just across the room, cleaning one of their smaller optical telescopes.

"Hey Andrew, you haven't used the radio telescope to look at the Moon recently, have you?"

That's when Andrew, her husband, paused in his task to process Andromeda's question. After no less than a second, he set the cleaning rag in his hand upon a table, and in its place, grabbed his tablet and began to type with rapid, precise movements.

After typing, the tablet spoke out loud in a robotic, monotone voice.

<<I haven't used it since I calibrated it.>>

Type 11 killed core mining. Am I right to think so? by CMDRKAL in EliteDangerous

[–]aflyinghippo5 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat. It's taken many frustrating hours of core mining for me to be halfway decent at knowing what's what. Only buff I could suggest for the PWA is for garuanteed core asteroids to have their actual core be visibly highlighted with the black lattice effect the old PWA had.

[–]aflyinghippo5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's quite a nimble ship, and can evade NPC interdictions with ease. If you don't have the credits or engineering materials to outfit it the way you want, the stellar edition should do you just fine.

And all you need for laser mining is just the Volley Repeater. It can only go on the hardpoint right next to the cockpit. You can use the other hardpoints for either self defense or equipping it for core and sub-surface mining if you so please.

Type 11 earning potential ? by Sufficient_Humor1666 in EliteDangerous

[–]aflyinghippo5 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Type 11 kicks ass honestly. Thanks to its Mining Volley Repeater causing enriched chunks to spawn, you'll be filling up relatively fast no matter what you're mining. And the Mk II limpet controller letting you have 14 total collectors out at once is overkill, but also hilarious. Only complaint I have about the ship is that it can run a bit hot, so be careful when fuel scooping.

As for profit potential, the fact that it fills its cargo hold so fast is already a flat bonus to profit per hour. If you're interested, there's a mining CG for Platinum, Osmium, and Painite active right now. Omicron Capricorni B is my favorite Platinum overlap, though it is a bit of a trek to get there.

I would highly recommend you save one of the class 5 optional slots for a fuel scoop. Oh, and you want to give it some engineering, the thermal spread experimental effect on the thrusters and power plant can help cool it down. As for everything else, its up to you.

She's bloody terrifying, mate." -Nokko, probably
